How BIG Is Your Box???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #12  Bible Ballistics

As I sit here writing today, this verse came to my mind; yet being the strange thinker that I am, I couldn’t help but think of the question that entitles this post!  How BIG is my/your box?  We often settle for less than God has for us, because we won’t listen to Him, or we refuse to obey, or we just can’t “believe” that God is asking/telling me/you to “do THAT”!

I sit here listening to my favorite southern gospel music on a music service and one of the songs talked about needing another Noah—a faithful servant who preached that a flood was coming as God’s judgment on the sin and rejection by men of God Himself.  Yet, something we often overlook, is that while Noah was a faithful servant, and he preached for some one hundred years, he took only his family onto the ark!  Think about that call!  He was faithful but had no converts.  God gave several of His servants/prophets a similar warning in their calls.

It seems that as modern believers, many have swapped the truth of God’s Word for the idea that God measures our work by “popular acceptance”!  That is a totally unbiblical idea.  Paul stated it best in his message to his young protégé, Timothy!  We need to take note of it today!

“Yea, and all that will live godly

in Christ Jesus

shall suffer persecution.

13 But evil men and seducers

shall wax worse and worse,

deceiving,

and being deceived.”  2 Timothy 3:12-13

It seems to me that we often miss God’s best by settling for the world’s message rather than God’s.  Our box is filled with other things than God.  While Malachi’s message was contextually in regard to “giving/tithing” the message is one that applies to every area of our lives.  I find it amazing that many people who claim the name of Jesus want to talk about blessings, but they don’t have/make time for obedience.  When I keep my eyes on Jesus, knowing that I am HIS and HE is mine, and that HE has promised to care for me, money isn’t even an issue!  Money is simply one of the tools that God has entrusted to me to meet the needs of others as well as myself.  (I would encourage you to read Malachi—it’s only 4 chapters long. And it has great insights that we surely need today!)!

“Ye are cursed with a curse:

for ye have robbed me,

even this whole nation.

10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse,

that there may be meat in mine house,

and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts,

if I will not open you the windows of heaven,

and pour you out a blessing,

that there shall not be room enough

to receive it.

11 And I will rebuke the devourer

for your sakes,

and he shall not destroy the fruits

of your ground;

neither shall your vine

cast her fruit before the time in the field,

saith the LORD of hosts.

12 And all nations

shall call you blessed:

for ye shall be a delightsome land,

saith the LORD of hosts.”  Malachi 3:9-12

Paul’s message to the Ephesian believers, on his final departure from them was a commission to serve and share (truth and blessings):

“Yea, ye yourselves know,

that these hands have ministered

unto my necessities,

and to them that were with me.

35 I have shewed you all things,

how that so labouring

ye ought to support the weak,

and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus,

how he said,

It is more blessed to give

than to receive.”  Acts 20:34-35

Are we seeking the blessing to “keep it” or to to pass it on?  We are truly blessed to be a blessing, but if our box is so full of the world how can we have enough of GOD’s blessing to share?  WE can’t!  Blessings are to share not to hoard!  Get the world out of that “box” and receive from God that which you can pass on for God’s glory, and the good of others as well as yourself!

“Let him that stole steal no more:

but rather let him labour,

working with his hands

the thing which is good,

that he may have to give

to him that needeth.”  Ephesians 4:28

Oh, we are so rich!  May we be found to be faithful stewards of all that God entrusts to each of us—it’s not the quantity of our resources, but what are we doing with what GOD has given to us!  Is my/your box filled with blessings from God that we may reflect the glory and gracious heart of our Lord; emptying our box of the control and lure of worldly things and allowing God to “pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it”!

And one last thing that blessed me years ago, and I hope it will bless you as it did, and still does, me!  We aren’t to be glasses that fill and empty, fill and empty; rather we are to be a glass without top or bottom that is continually allowing the love, grace, and power of our God to flow “through us” continually.  In closing I’d like to share an old hymn that always makes me smile and remember that my hope isn’t in this world—but it IS IN JESUS!

God Leads His Dear Children Along                                                             By C.A. Young

In shady, green pastures so rich and so sweet
God leads His dear children along
Where the water’s cool flow bathes the weary one’s feet
God leads His dear children along

Refrain

Some through the water, some through the flood
Some through the fire, but all through the blood
Some through great sorrow, but God gives the song
In the night season and all the day long

Sometimes on the mount where the sun shines so bright
God leads His dear children along
Sometimes in the valley, in darkest of night
God leads His dear children along

Though sorrows befall us and Satan oppose
God leads His dear children along
Through grace we can conquer, defeat all our foes
God leads His dear children along

Some through the waters, some through the flood
Some through the fire, but all through the blood
Some through great sorrow, but God gives the song
In the night season and all the day long

Blessings on your day my friends—each one filled with HIS blessing, and opportunities to share that which the world may not value, but GOD does!

Amen and Amen!!!

What Am I Thankful For???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #11

Bible Ballistics

“See that none render evil

for evil

unto any man;

but ever follow

that which is good,

both among yourselves,

and to all men.

16 Rejoice evermore.

17 Pray without ceasing.

18 In every thing give thanks:

for this is the will of God

in Christ Jesus

concerning you.

19 Quench not the Spirit.

20 Despise not prophesyings.

21 Prove all things;

hold fast that which is good.

22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

23 And the very God of peace

sanctify you wholly;

and I pray God

your whole spirit

and soul

and body

be preserved blameless

unto the coming

of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Faithful is he that calleth you,

who also will do it.”   1 Thessalonians 5:15-24

I love this precious list of things which Paul encouraged the believers in Thessalonica to observe, oh, that we might follow suit and set our hearts and minds on this kind of holy living, dependence on our Lord Jesus, and loving gratitude to HIM “IN EVERYTHING”!  There is something I’d like to point out for our consideration today; I’ve often heard it said that we are to give thanks “IN” all things but not “FOR” all things!  I’ve even been heard to say that very thing, but what does scripture say?  Let’s find out.  First from Paul’s letter to the Roman believers:

“And we know that all things work together

for good

to them that love God,

to them who are the called

according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow,

he also did predestinate

to be conformed to the image of his Son,

that he might be the firstborn

among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate,

them he also called:

and whom he called,

them he also justified:

and whom he justified,

them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say to these things?

If God be for us,

who can be against us?”  Romans 8:28-31

While verse 28 is often quoted or shared in times of trial or crises, we so often miss verse 29 and following (I know I did for many years!), for while we have confidence that “all things” are working for our good—and they are—we must allow scripture to say what it says; for our confidence is not just in some “pie in the sky” hope that “things will all work out somehow”, because our confidence MUST rest in the truth that GOD IS WORKING on our behalf, not in some ethereal random purpose, but that ‘ALL’ has the purpose of causing believers to “be conformed to the image of his Son”!  Therefore, it’s important to follow the flow of this passage; God is conforming us into the image of our Lord Jesus, yet Paul also reminds us of who we are IN Jesus, we are “called….justified…and glorified” by the redeeming work of Jesus Christ on the cross!  Are we living in light of these truths?  Paul concludes this section of scripture with a powerful truth: “If God be for us, who can be against us?”!  And my friends that is what I want us to understand in this brief study; because God not only calls us to be thankful “in” all things, but HE actually calls us to be thankful “FOR” all things—because HE holds it all!

“Speaking to yourselves

in psalms

and hymns

and spiritual songs,

singing

and making melody

in your heart to the Lord;

20 Giving thanks always for all things

unto God and the Father

in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;”  Ephesians 5:19-20

How? By remembering whose we are, and how we became His children (See John 1:12-14); and standing fast in this truth (which has always been truth) we can confidently proclaim with Job:

“Though he slay me,

yet will I trust in him:

but I will maintain mine own ways

before him.”  Job 13:15

“And said,

Naked came I out of my mother’s womb,

and naked shall I return thither:

the LORD gave,

and the LORD hath taken away;

blessed be the name of the LORD.

22 In all this Job sinned not,

nor charged God foolishly.”  Job 1:21-22

As we close, may we remember these truths and stand with Paul and Job, knowing that our confidence is in The ONE Who has redeemed us by HIS own blood, and HE is coming back for us someday soon!

“For I know that my redeemer liveth,

and that he shall stand

at the latter day

upon the earth:

26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body,

yet in my flesh

shall I see God:

27 Whom I shall see for myself,

and mine eyes shall behold,

and not another;

though my reins be consumed within me.”   Job 19:25-27

What are you thankful for?  In all things and for all things we can practice our “attitude of gratitude”; because our God reigns in ALL!

“And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying,

Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

7 Let us be glad and rejoice,

and give honour to him… ”  Revelation 19:6-7a

Amen and Amen!!!

Useful Or Love-Worthy??? Bible Ballistics: Vol. 19 No. 02

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 19 No. 02   Useful Or Love-Worthy???

While this may seem like a bit of a strange topic, the thing I want us to consider is our attitude towards God—not just our relationship with God—but our attitude toward The God Almighty of the universe.  The God who loves us, who gave “His only begotten Son” for our sin, and yet who tells us clearly that our sin IS the issue, and HE clearly reminds us repeatedly that there is only One Way to be reconciled to HIM!  Jesus!  Yet our modern  culture is more concerned with having a “useful” God, rather than loving The God who has provided for their redemption; to come to salvation by the substitutionary (Jesus took our place), atoning (paying for our sin so we won’t have to pay for it in hell) sacrifice ( the cost for this atonement—the death of The Sinless Son of God for sinful men, women, boys and girls who will accept His life for mine/yours!)!

If Jesus has paid for your sin, why would you not recognize how much we owe HIM—mostly our love, gratitude, and willingness to serve HIM instead of our own selves!

“For by grace are ye saved

through faith;

and that not of yourselves:

it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works,

lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship,

created in Christ Jesus

unto good works,

which God hath before ordained

that we should walk

in them.”  Ephesians 2:8-10

After all, our salvation is why Jesus came—to pay for sin—yours and mine.

“And she shall bring forth a son,

and thou shalt call his name JESUS:

for he shall save his people

from their sins.”  Matthew 1:21

He came in selfless love; we must choose what our response will be.  And while it’s my/your choice, there is a consequence to every choice, good or bad, so choose wisely!

“For all have sinned,

and come short

of the glory of God;”  Romans 3:23

“But now being made free from sin,

and become servants to God,

ye have your fruit unto holiness,

and the end everlasting life.

23 For the wages of sin is death;

but the gift of God is eternal life

through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:22-23

What does your fruitfulness look like?  All Paul talks about here is the end of God’s amazing grace toward us; and our “fruit” ought to give glory to God, not line our own pockets!  Paul describes how our response ought to look in his letter to the Colossian believers.  How are you and I responding to this amazing prayer?  I often rehearse this prayer for myself, for others whom I love, for those who need to know Jesus, or just in general when I don’t know how else to pray.

“For this cause we also,

since the day we heard it,

do not cease to pray for you,

and to desire

that ye might be filled

with the knowledge of his will

in all wisdom

and spiritual understanding;

10 That ye might walk worthy

of the Lord

unto all pleasing,

being fruitful

in every good work,

and increasing

in the knowledge of God;

11 Strengthened with all might,

according to his glorious power,

unto all patience

and longsuffering

with joyfulness;

12 Giving thanks unto the Father,

which hath made us meet

to be partakers of the inheritance

of the saints

in light:

13 Who hath delivered us

from the power of darkness,

and hath translated us

into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14 In whom we have redemption

through his blood,

even the forgiveness of sins:”             Colossians 1:9-14

Have you been forgiven?  Let’s continue to read what Paul goes on to say; we will find that it is ALL about Jesus—from before the foundation of the world, to HIS eternal kingdom.  What’s your focus?  Getting from God or giving for HIS Kingdom?

“In whom we have redemption

through his blood,

even the forgiveness of sins:

15 Who is the image of the invisible God,

the firstborn of every creature:

16 For by him were all things created,

that are in heaven,

and that are in earth,

visible and invisible,

whether they be thrones,

or dominions,

or principalities,

or powers:

all things were created

by him,

and for him:

17 And he is before all things,

and by him all things consist.

18 And he is the head of the body,

the church:

who is the beginning,

the firstborn from the dead;

that in all things

he might have the preeminence.”  Colossians 1: 14-18

Who has “the preeminence” in your life?  Jesus or someone or something else? (like ‘self’?). This is what we need to determine’ are we devoted to God’s will or our own?  It’s as simple as what Jesus said:

“After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done

in earth,

as it is in heaven.”  Matthew 6:9-10

And in closing, a passage that I use again and again:

“…but as for me and my house,

we will serve the LORD.”  Joshua 24:15b

Use God or serve God?  The choice is yours!  Remember there is a test!

Amen and Amen!!!

Jesus- Our Strength!!!  A Word from THE WORD!!! #10

Bible Ballistics

Just a brief word to remind us that Jesus IS our strength as well as our Redeemer.  If you’re tired, weary, frustrated, or confused, look up to The One who purchased our salvation—HE gave HIS life that we might have “abundant life”!  He promised abundant life—and I know that he delivers!  Look up my friends, look up!

“The thief cometh not,

but for to steal,

and to kill,

and to destroy:

I am come that they might have life,

and that they might have it

more abundantly.”  John 10:10

A few powerful reminders from the Psalmists!

“The LORD is my strength

and my shield;

my heart trusted in him,

and I am helped:

therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth;

and with my song will I praise him.”  Psalm 28:7

 “The LORD is my strength and song,

and is become my salvation.”  Psalm 118:14

And a reiteration from Isaiah the Prophet.

“Behold, God is my salvation;

I will trust,

 and not be afraid:

for the LORD JEHOVAH

is my strength and my song;

he also is become my salvation.”  Isaiah 12:2

Amen and Amen!!!

Joshua Fit’, How About You??? Bible Ballistics: Vol. 19 No. 01

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 19 No. 01   Joshua Fit’, How About You???

There’s an old Gospel song, “Joshua Fit’de Battle”, one of my favorites (an old Negro Spiritual of unknown authorship—yet a song of heartfelt trust in ONE who IS in charge, no matter what the circumstances look like) and while it’s usually a fun song, it has a great word of encouragement for me today, and I hope I can share that encouragement with you.

Joshua fought a battle that was out of the ordinary, as the new leader of the people of Israel, who had wandered for 40 years for their disobedience to God, and their lack of faith in HIS promises, Joshua had a great task ahead.  Yet, God gave Him what seemed like some most bizarre instructions.

“Now Jericho was straitly shut up

because of the children of Israel:

none went out,

and none came in.

2 And the LORD said unto Joshua,

See, I have given into thine hand Jericho,

and the king thereof,

and the mighty men of valour.

3 And ye shall compass the city,

all ye men of war,

and go round about the city once.

Thus shalt thou do six days.

4 And seven priests shall bear before the ark

seven trumpets of rams’ horns:

and the seventh day

ye shall compass the city seven times,

and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.

5 And it shall come to pass,

that when they make a long blast

with the ram’s horn,

and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet,

all the people shall shout

with a great shout;

and the wall of the city shall fall down flat,

and the people shall ascend up

every man straight before him.”  Joshua 6:1-5

While these instructions were strange, they were specific and designed to encourage Joshua and the people he was trying to lead.  While I won’t focus much on the battle, I do want to spend some time today examining how we face not only the battles before us, but also the directions that God gives us.

I know how difficult it can be to trust God and obey in the midst of out-of-control circumstances.  I remember when my daughter was murdered some 2½ years ago, it was on a Thursday and I usually try to write and post on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and I told my husband, “I don’t think I can write and/or post tomorrow!”  And he wisely and simply told me to do what was right for me.  Well, during the night God would awaken me with a scripture and I’d put a note on my phone, and roll over and go back to sleep, then He’d do it again, multiple times during the night, and I knew what HE wanted me to do.  Yet, when I got up on that Friday morning, I told The Lord, “I can’t do this today!”, and God spoke to my heart, as clearly as if I had heard an audible voice, “YOU have hope, others do NOT! They need to know about your hope!”  And with that, I went into my den and wrote the things that He had given me in the night; while I always try to be listening to what God would have me say/write, I can guarantee you that the message that came together that morning was straight from my Father, sending His Balm of Gilead to my soul, and to all who would receive it.

My battle was much different from Joshua’s, but the decision to trust and obey was the same.  How about you?  What battle are you facing, are you trying to ‘Fit ‘de Battle’ alone, or your own way, instead of God’s.  It’s your choice, but God is still God—and you can trust to HIS care, or not.

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest,

that is passed into the heavens,

Jesus the Son of God,

let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest

which cannot be touched with the feeling

of our infirmities;

but was in all points tempted like as we are,

yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly

unto the throne of grace,

that we may obtain mercy,

and find grace to help

in time of need.”  Hebrews 4:14-16

No matter your battle, no matter your circumstances, no matter your frustrations, fear, grief or sorrow—we have a “throne of grace” to which we can run, boldly run (not in arrogance or presumption, but in bold confidence in HIM who sits on that throne—God The Father, and Jesus Christ The Son of God who has boldly paid the price for our sin, and given us access into that throne room!) into the arms of the ONE who gave HIS life that we could have not only “life”, but “abundant life” IN HIM!

We can stand in Jesus, with complete confidence, just as Joshua did even at the end of his life—still knowing that God was all he needed, and that he would serve HIM boldly and faithfully—and he called all the people to recognize that it was their choice as to whom they would trust and serve.

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD,

choose you this day

whom ye will serve;

whether the gods which your fathers served

that were on the other side of the flood,

or the gods of the Amorites,

in whose land ye dwell:

but as for me and my house,

we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15

Joshua didn’t force the people to choose God, and I can’t force anyone to believe in Jesus, but without HIM no person will enter heaven’s gates—we must be “born again”!  Jesus’ own words say it best.  Won’t you come to the One who died for YOU?

“Jesus answered and said unto him,

Verily, verily, I say unto thee,

Except a man be born again,

he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him,

How can a man be born when he is old?

can he enter the second time

into his mother’s womb,

and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily,

I say unto thee, Except a man be born

of water

and of the Spirit,

he cannot enter

into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh

is flesh;

and that which is born of the Spirit

is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.”  John 3:3-7

And when you belong to Jesus, you always have someone who can fight your battles, and lift you up when you are down!

“And he said, Hearken ye,

all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem,

and thou king Jehoshaphat,

Thus saith the LORD unto you,

Be not afraid nor dismayed

by reason of this great multitude.

for the battle is not yours,

but God’s.”  2 Chronicles 20:15

I’ll share Jesus in the valley—I’ll share HIM on the mountain top—I’ll share HIM, by God’s grace and faithful provision, in all I do and say.  Jesus wants to care for YOU!  Won’t you repent of your sin and receive the substitutionary, atoning sacrifice that JESUS made for YOU.  Then you can have what I have, and all who are HIS!  Your “fighting” days can be over!

“Humble yourselves therefore

under the mighty hand of God,

that he may exalt you

in due time:

7 Casting all your care upon him;

for he careth for you.”  1 Peter 5:7

It’s your choice but choose wisely—there is a test!!!  Don’t fall for the lies of the enemy of your soul.  (Satan is a thief and a liar!). Even if your heart is breaking—remember, Jesus IS the heart healer!  Believe me, HE heals mine every day!

“The thief cometh not,

but for to steal,

and to kill,

and to destroy:

I am come

that they might have life,

and that they might have it

more abundantly.”  John 10:10

Amen and Amen!!!
