Entitled Or Grateful??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #409

β€œBut I beseech you,

that I may not be bold

when I am present

with that confidence,

wherewith I think to be bold against some,

which think of us

as if we walked according to the flesh.

3 For though we walk in the flesh,

we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare

are not carnal,

but mighty through God

to the pulling down

of strong holdsπŸ˜‰

5 Casting down imaginations,

and every high thing

that exalteth itself

against the knowledge of God,

and bringing into captivity

every thought

to the obedience of Christ;” 2 Corinthians 10:2-5

This is a passage where Paul is calling us to remember that we are to learn from God’s work in our lives, not only in the spiritual realm, but also understanding that God is ever at work through the physical circumstances that surround us to teach us, grow us, and most importantly to conform us into the image of our Lord Jesus Christ, being an example of His grace in us to a lost and dying world!.

β€œLikewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:

for we know not what we should pray for

as we ought:

but the Spirit itself

maketh intercession for us

with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts

knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,

because he maketh intercession

for the saints

according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things

work together for good

to them that love God,

to them who are the called

according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow,

he also did predestinate

to be conformed to the image of his Son,

that he might be the firstborn

among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate,

them he also called:

and whom he called,

them he also justified:

and whom he justified,

them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say to these things?

If God be for us,

who can be against us?”  Romans 8:26-31

And while these two passages are a bit lengthy, I want us to get a grasp on the truth that we are blessed by a God who not only loves us but also has made perfect provision for us in every way. In thinking of that may we not become complacent or become like the world around us and fixate on expectations rather than gratitude! Β We are called to be a grateful people, not only by scripture, but by the very truth that β€œβ€¦God so loved the world (ME) that He gave…”!Β  He gave His β€œonly begotten Son…” for you and me!Β  He gave Him to die for my sin and yours.Β  And if there is one passage that pictures this amazing love, grace and provision that Jesus made for all who will come to Him, it is found in 2 Corinthians.

β€œ17 Therefore if any man be in Christ,

he is a new creature:

old things are passed away;

behold, all things are become new…

… 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us,

who knew no sin;

that we might be made the righteousness of God

in him.”  2 Corinthians 5:17 & 21

John said it this way:

β€œWe love him, because he first loved us.”  1 John 4:19

I am grateful that God loved me first!Β  I was lost in sinβ€”as we all areβ€”yet Jesus reached down and lifted me up to Himself.Β  I encourage you to examine your own heart and ask God to help you know where you stand with Himβ€”and if you ask in faith, He will reveal your true state to you; if you are saved He will encourage you in The Word, and if not, He will bring you to the cross if you will but hear His voice and heed His call.Β  It isn’t by entitlement, but by grace!Β  How we ought to continually have an attitude of gratitude; Paul says it better than I can.

β€œBut thanks be to God,

which giveth us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren,

be ye

stedfast,

unmoveable,

always abounding in the work of the Lord,

forasmuch as ye know

that your labour is not in vain

in the Lord.”  1 Corinthians 15:57-58

I ask you to join me in thanking God always, in all things, remembering that in Jesusβ€”we are victorious!Β  Remember, as I often say, We Win!Β  Keep that attitude of gratitude, not looking for what you think you are β€œentitled to”!Β  As the old song calls us to β€œcount your blessings”!Β  I encourage you to spend some time this week rehearsing your blessingsβ€”count them, name them, and thank God for them!Β  And if He lays someone on your heart that you need to thankβ€”do it!Β  Today!Β  Today!Β Today!

Thank you, Jesus, for all you’ve done for me!Β  Thank you for these precious friends who follow these posts each week!Β  Grow each of us in Your grace!!!

Amen and Amen!!!

The Quiet In The Noise??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #408

Just a few things today about beating the nosiness around us.Β  There is so much on every hand harping, crying out, shouting the goodβ€”the badβ€”and especially the ugly!Β  But we have an option, and I encourage you to call on Him today, His name is Jesus. And as we prepare to celebrate His birth, may we draw nearer to Him, as He takes hold on our hand and we can cling to Him with all our heart.Β  I simply want to share a few passages to encourage your heart today.Β  Blessings of peace and quiet on you and yoursβ€”

β€œThou wilt keep him in perfect peace,

whose mind is stayed on thee:

because he trusteth in thee.

4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever:

for in the LORD JEHOVAH

is everlasting strength:” Isaiah 26: 3-4

And in Jesus own words to us!

β€œLet not your heart be troubled:

ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions:

if it were not so, I would have told you.

I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you,

I will come again,

and receive you unto myself;

that where I am,

there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him,

Lord, we know not whither thou goest;

and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him,

I am

the way,

the truth, and

the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:1-6

Amidst all the clutter and clamor going on around us, in our homes, on the job, on the street, on social media of every sortβ€”seemingly everywhereβ€”we have a God, a Savior and Lord who can and will give us peace in the midst of any storm, any clatter, any fear, any trial or difficulty that seems to overwhelm us, Jesus is near at hand if we will but reach out in faith and obedience!Β  Won’t you reach out and take His hand and let Him lead you into that β€œperfect peace”?Β  He is faithfulβ€”He is the way to the Fatherβ€”the way to heaven and eternal life!

Oh, what joy, peace and β€œquiet” we often miss simply because we fail to realize and trust to the care of our Lord and Savior, Jesus!Β  A passage that is very special to us, may you find the stillness of Jesus who has you in His hand if you have been born again (and if you haven’t been, you can be by calling on Jesus in repentance of your sin and faith in His substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for your sin and mine! See John 3)!

β€œBe still, and know that I am God:

I will be exalted among the heathen,

I will be exalted in the earth.

11 The LORD of hosts is with us;

the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Selah.” Β Psalm 46:10-11

Β We can keep on going in His β€œperfect peace”!Β  Don’t let the clamor stop your peace.Β  Jesus arose victorious, and we can live in the victory!

β€œBut thanks be to God,

which giveth us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren,

be ye stedfast,

unmoveable,

always abounding in the work of the Lord,

forasmuch as ye know

that your labour is not in vain

in the Lord.”  1 Corinthians 15:57-58

Amen and Amen!!!

Working On The Attitude??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #407

β€œMake a joyful noise

unto the LORD, all ye lands.

2 Serve the LORD

with gladness:

come before his presence

with singing.

3 Know ye that the LORD

he is God:

it is he that hath made us,

and not we ourselves;

we are his people,

and the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter into his gates

with thanksgiving,

and into his courts

with praise:

be thankful unto him,

and bless his name.

5 For the LORD is good;

his mercy is everlasting;

and his truth endureth to all generations.”Psalm 100:1-5

Just a reminder that β€œThanksgiving” is not a day, but rather a state of mind to recognize that God is the provider!Β  A provider who loves us!Β  We need to work on our inward and outward reflection of our heart of gratitude…

β€œEvery good gift

and every perfect gift

is from above,

and cometh down

from the Father of lights,

with whom is no variableness,

neither shadow of turning.

18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth,

that we should be a kind of firstfruits

of his creatures.

19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren,

let every man

be swift to hear,

slow to speak,

slow to wrath:” James 1:17-19

May we practice kindness, grace and thankfulness; not just once a year, but every moment of everyday!Β  I’m praying for you today.Β  Don’t wait for next Thursday but live it today.

β€œSpeaking to yourselves

in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,

singing

and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

20 Giving thanks

always

for all things

unto God and the Father

in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Ephesians 5:19-20

Amen and Amen!!!

Daniel’s Attitude Of Gratitude??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #406

I know that sounds a little strange for this season, but I want us to consider all that we learn from one of Daniel’s prayers!Β  I want us to be confident in the knowledge of not only what our God does, but who He is in character, nature and sovereign control. He is trustworthy and worthy of our praise and gratitude.

The context of this passage is Daniel’s first encounter with Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams; a dream which the King had that disturbed him, and when none of the wise men of Babylon could interpret it, for he couldn’t even remember what the dream was about, and when they couldn’t tell him what the dream was much less what it meant, he called for them all to be put to deathβ€”including Daniel and his friends (read all of chapter 2 for the whole picture, but for our purposes we’re only going to look at Daniel and his friends response to the impending death threat…).

β€œThen Daniel went to his house,

and made the thing known

to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:

18 That they would desire mercies

of the God of heaven concerning this secret;

that Daniel and his fellows

should not perish

with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel

in a night vision.

Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

20 Daniel answered and said,

Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever:

for wisdom and might are his:

21 And he changeth the times

and the seasons:

he removeth kings,

and setteth up kings:

he giveth wisdom

unto the wise,

and knowledge

to them that know understanding:

22 He revealeth

the deep and secret things:

he knoweth what

is in the darkness,

and the light

dwelleth with him.

23 I thank thee,

and praise thee,

O thou God of my fathers,

who hast given me

wisdom and might,

and hast made known unto me now

what we desired of thee:

for thou hast now made known unto us

the king’s matter.”  Daniel 2:17-23

May we think on these things, and be like Daniel, who was devoted to his God even in the midst of great trials in being taken captive to Babylon!Β  Oh, how we fail to praise God so often because of our trials, our difficulties, our challenges, our often-confused minds; seemingly because we live in a world gone crazy!Β  We live in a culture that is rejecting God at almost every turn; may we be like Daniel and set our hearts and minds to stand pure before our God; as these four young men committed to be faithful to God regardless of what others did!Β  I see so many claim Jesus’ name in their doings, but it is so often steeped in the bragging on what they have seen, or done, or claiming and/or blaming God for any and every kind of issue.Β  Here we have four devoted young menβ€”devoted to not defile themselves with the worldly attachments around them!Β  What are you attached to?Β  When you claim Jesus’ name whether in blame or credit, is your life aligned with God’s Word?Β  How can it be if you don’t know what He has said or called us to?

Are we humble or proud?Β  Are we modest or flamboyantly worldly in our dress, speech, and self-aggrandizement?Β  It’s your call but remember there is a testβ€”and it’s a test that will be by God’s Word not popular vote or opinion.

β€œBut Daniel purposed in his heart

that he would not defile himself

with the portion of the king’s meat,

nor with the wine which he drank:

therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs

that he might not defile himself.”  Daniel 1:8

Here we find a young man whose heart was set on pleasing his Godβ€”and then behaving in a manner of humility, respect and submission to God’s will for him.Β  Such a contrast to much of what we hear in Christendom todayβ€”the ability to make demands on God and man, for profit, popularity, or arrogance is not knowing what Jesus tells us is the mindset that we ought to have.

β€œAfter this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done in earth,

as it is in heaven.”  Matthew 6:9-10

How it grieves my heart to hear people pronouncing God’s name over their own earthly plans to suit themselves; forget that Jesus clearly tells us we are to pray and seek β€œThy kingdom come. Thy will be done…” in all our ways!Β  If He promotes me, fine.Β  If He keeps me in humbles circumstances, so be it!Β  I want His will, over mine with God’s Word being the judge in all things.

β€œFor the word of God

is quick,

and powerful,

and sharper than any twoedged sword,

piercing even to the dividing asunder

of soul and spirit,

and of the joints and marrow,

and is a discerner

of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

13 Neither is there any creature

that is not manifest in his sight:

but all things are

naked and opened

unto the eyes of him

with whom we have to do.

14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest,

that is passed into the heavens,

Jesus the Son of God,

let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest

which cannot be touched

with the feeling of our infirmities;

but was in all points tempted

like as we are,

yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly

unto the throne of grace,

that we may obtain mercy,

and find grace to help

in time of need.”  Hebrews 4:12-16

When you’re not sure, dig into The Word! Β Scripture tells us right here that we will find help when we need it, when we come to that β€œthrone of grace”, remembering that β€œthe word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword”!Β  It is a sword that will guide us to truthβ€”God’s truth, not man’s!Β  We can fool others, even ourselvesβ€”but God knows our heart! Β Β I encourage you to dig into HIS Word and then adjust your life to HIS Word as neededβ€”not the other way around!Β  Let’s be Daniels in a world full of Nebuchadnezzars!Β  I’m gratefulβ€”how about you!Β  Put on that attitude of gratitude!

Amen and Amen!!!
