Reach Them Today??? Really!!! A Word from THE WORD!!! #342

I want us to consider time today—no pun intended—but I do pray that we will realize that we are called to live “today”; we’re not to be consumed with yesterdays over which we have no control, or even overly concerned about tomorrow!  I have a prayer that I wrote several years ago that I try to pray every day—I have it taped to my bathroom mirror (you can do the same) and it helps me remember who is in charge today—and the next today!

       Father—

              Your will for today IS mine—

              Your pleasure for today IS mine—

              Your work for today IS mine—

                      Tomorrow is yours alone to reveal—

                      Yesterday is ours alone—

                             Mine– to release to You–

                             Yours– to weave into the image of

Jesus Christ my Lord!

              Amen and Amen!!!

Jesus reminded us of the importance of praying in the right mindset, and the first few lines of His model prayer tell it all.

“After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done in earth,

as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day… ”                             Portions of Matthew 6:9-11a

Today is a gift from God and we are to pursue HIS will and HIS way, and for HIS kingdom to come; if I might interject a thought, we can rightly pray Hallowed be thy name to me—by rightly living His ways before a lost and dying world; we can pray Thy Kingdom come in me—by seeking His face through His Word, and walking in obedience to it; we can pray Thy will be done in me today and each today that HE gives us!  My heart grieves that I fail so much and so often, but I keep getting up each time, and Jesus helps me go forward.  You see my friends as we seek God, we can learn to focus on living today not yesterday or tomorrow.

“This is the day

which the LORD hath made;

we will rejoice and be glad in it.”  Psalm 118:24

 So what will we do with today?  We can choose to pursue Jesus—or something else.  We can choose to pursue a life of holiness, or we can live our own way.  The thing we often forget is that we may not have tomorrow.  Ever consider that even as Jesus told us to pray with today in mind, we can prepare for the future but don’t be so distracted by it that you miss today.  Children grow up way too fast! Life speeds by with no thought of what we are missing.  Don’t wait too long.  There’s an old hymn that haunts me even today, in the sense that we must, I say we must, realize that we may not have a tomorrow; the song was “O Why Not Tonight?”, by Eliza Holmes, and it pleads for the hearer to choose Jesus today. Have you bowed before Jesus in repentance of your sin, and faith/trust/belief in His substitutionary, atoning sacrifice.  If not, why not now?   Caskets come in all sizes!  Are you ready to meet Jesus today?

“(For he saith,

I have heard thee

in a time accepted,

and in the day of salvation

have I succoured thee:

behold,

now is the accepted time;

behold,

now is the day of salvation.)”.   2 Corinthians 6:2

Even as God said in Genesis:

“And the LORD said,

My spirit shall not always strive with man,

for that he also is flesh…”. Genesis 6:3a

So what am I saying?  I’m saying that we must use today wisely and be ready to make a difference in this wicked world and walk in righteousness, grace, and peace as well as behave discreetly, wisely, modestly, respectfully, rightly and responsibly!  I pray that my life will never shame my Lord Jesus.  How about you, are you measuring your life by scripture or ‘Hellywood’?

“But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake,

happy are ye:

and be not afraid of their terror,

neither be troubled;

15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts:

and be ready always to give an answer

to every man that asketh you

 a reason of the hope that is in you

with meekness and fear:

16 Having a good conscience;

that, whereas they speak evil of you,

as of evildoers,

 they may be ashamed

that falsely accuse

your good conversation in Christ.”                            1 Peter 3:14-16

Oh, may we live for Jesus today; may we be found faithful and as Peter said, “ready always to give an answer”!  And remember God isn’t asking us to have all the answers, but to be equipped with His Word to respond to those who ask, “Why do you live that way?”; but most importantly we are to live a life that reflects our Lord not the world, or why would anyone notice unless there’s a difference!  We are supposed to be different.  Remember Noah, he preached about a flood when no one even knew what rain was; he was found faithful to preach truth to those who wouldn’t listen!  May we be called faithful too!

“And spared not the old world,

but saved Noah

the eighth person,

a preacher of righteousness,

bringing in the flood

upon the world of the ungodly;” 2 Peter 2:5

What’s your life preaching today.  What if this was my last “today”?  Oh, Jesus may we be found faithful “today”!  May others see Jesus in me.  Or we can choose to be like those in Noah’s day and Lot’s day!

“And as it was in the days of Noe,

so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

27 They did eat, they drank,

they married wives, they were given in marriage,

until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

and the flood came,

and destroyed them all.

28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot;

they did eat, they drank,

they bought, they sold,

they planted, they builded;

29 But the same day that Lot went out of

Sodom

it rained fire and brimstone

from heaven,

and destroyed them all.

30 Even thus shall it be in the day

when the Son of man is revealed.”  Luke 17:26-30

What is Jesus saying?  Jesus is telling us clearly that those who lived with no thought of God, no thought that tomorrow held judgement, did nothing to get right with God today!  They lived as if today would never end.  Is your life a reflection of Jesus or the world that is “going to hell in a handbasket”?  It’s your choice, but choose wisely there is an end to today, and a test.

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die,

but after this the judgment:” Hebrews 9:27

 Use your todays wisely.  Judgment is coming.  Will you stand with Jesus today?  He’s coming soon!  Please look up today!  Live so those following you will be drawn to the cross!

Amen and Amen!!!

Prayed Up Or Made Up???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #175

I want us to change up today and look at the import of prayer.  We are called to be men and women of prayer and its place in our life will reveal itself in our everyday actions and interactions. There are so many things to consider, and we will find that our choices do make a difference.  Let’s take some time first of all to see what scripture tells us about prayer.

“Pray

without ceasing.

18 In every thing

give thanks:

for this is the will of God

in Christ Jesus

concerning you.

19 Quench not the Spirit.”  1 Thessalonians 5:17-19

God’s will for us is to pray “without ceasing”, to “give thanks” and to “Quench not the Spirit”; now that doesn’t mean I close my eyes driving down the highway to pray, but that my heart is ever sensitive to the voice and work of The Spirit of Jesus in recognizing His urging to pray for a specific thing or person even if I don’t know why?  It means that I am to be yielded continually to the work of The Holy Spirit and not reject it, ignore it, or discount the truth of HIS work in me/you!  Quenching the Holy Spirit’s work in us isn’t limited to willfully denying His direction but can be as simple as writing His prompting off to unimportant, or I’ll get it later, or even I can’t do that.  It’s going my way instead of paying attention to God’s working in me, leading me.

Jesus’ instruction to His disciples was simple but of great import; and it seems they missed the import—as we often do as well.

“Then saith he unto them,

My soul is exceeding sorrowful,

even unto death:

tarry ye here, and watch with me…

…. 40 And he cometh unto the disciples,

and findeth them asleep,

and saith unto Peter,

What,

could ye not watch with me one hour?

41 Watch and pray,

that ye enter not into temptation:

the spirit indeed is willing,

but the flesh is weak…

….. 43 And he came and found them asleep again:

for their eyes were heavy.

44 And he left them, and went away again,

and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

45 Then cometh he to his disciples,

and saith unto them,

Sleep on now,

and take your rest:

behold, the hour is at hand,

and the Son of man is betrayed

into the hands of sinners.”  Portions of Matthew 26:38-45

Jesus in His last hours asked His closest friends to “watch and pray” with Him, yet being weary and tired, they fell asleep.  Don’t save bedtime as your best praying time—most of us will fall asleep every time!  Let’s be faithful to our Lord and pray not only regularly, but at every prompting of The Spirit.

Jesus also gave us some hard instructions about prayer; for we are often willing to pray for our friends, but not those whom we have ill will toward.  Jesus said something unpopular and surely not easy, but doable in love and the power of The Holy Spirit.

“Ye have heard that it hath been said,

Thou shalt love thy neighbour,

and hate thine enemy.

44 But I say unto you,

Love your enemies,

bless them that curse you,

do good to them that hate you,

and pray for them

which despitefully use you,

and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father

which is in heaven:

for he

maketh his sun to rise

on the evil

and on the good,

and sendeth rain

on the just

and on the unjust.”  Matthew 5:43-45

Prayer needs to be our “first things first” priority, not that we don’t have other obligations to meet, but we must not neglect prayer in all things.  The Apostle Paul reminds us that there are those times when we don’t know how or what to pray for in any specific situation, but don’t quit, when we don’t have the words—The Holy Spirit does—and I am abundantly grateful that HE does!

“But if we hope for that we see not,

then do we with patience wait for it.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:

for we know not what we should pray for

as we ought:

but the Spirit itself maketh intercession

for us

with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts

knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,

because he maketh intercession

for the saints

according to the will of God.”  Romans 8:25-27

God knows and we can run to HIM in any situation, we can trust to HIS care and provision, for HE never fails.

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest,

that is passed into the heavens,

Jesus the Son of God,

let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest

which cannot be touched

with the feeling of our infirmities;

but was in all points tempted like as we are,

yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly

unto the throne of grace,

that we may obtain mercy,

and find grace to help

in time of need.” Hebrews 4:14-16

What about the ‘made up’?  Well, I could be talking about “makeup” and that could be a fitting contrast—as scripture has a lot to say about ‘painted eyes’ (a focus on the flesh instead of the Spirit”) but I’d rather talk about something Jesus talks about in His letters to the churches of The Revelation, particularly the church at Laodicea.  Jesus makes a contrast between having that which is really from God, and that which we have set as valuable in the flesh.  What foundation am I standing on?  Human wisdom or God’s wisdom and true salvation.  And remember this letter is to a church.

“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write;

These things saith

the Amen,

the faithful and true witness,

the beginning of the creation of God;

15 I know thy works,

that thou art neither cold

nor hot:

I would thou wert cold or hot.

16 So then because thou art lukewarm,

and neither cold

nor hot,

I will spue thee out of my mouth.

17 Because thou sayest,

I am rich,

and increased with goods,

and have need of nothing;

and knowest not

that thou art wretched,

and miserable,

and poor,

and blind,

and naked:

18 I counsel thee to buy of me

gold tried in the fire,

that thou mayest be rich;

and white raiment,

that thou mayest be clothed,

and that the shame of thy nakedness

do not appear;

and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve,

that thou mayest see.”  Revelation 3:14-18

Here Jesus calls those who “claim” His name and are in a church, to examine themselves (Paul also talks about this in 2 Corinthians 13:5 and also in 1 Corinthians 11:31-32) and in verse 19 of this passage He calls them to repent!  Jesus is saying the same thing that Isaiah talks about, we can’t do it ourself, our righteousness (so called) will never meet God’s standard!

“But we are all as an unclean thing,

and all our righteousnesses

are as filthy rags;

and we all do fade as a leaf;

and our iniquities,

like the wind, have taken us away.”  Isaiah 64:6

Jesus calls these people, this church, us, to examine ourselves to see if we have come to depend upon our own resources instead of the “blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin”?  How did they get to this point?  We don’t know, but we know that they had become so self-sufficient that they said of themselves, we “have need of nothing”!  And if we go on to look at verse 20, I ask you to examine where Jesus is?

“Behold,

I stand at the door,

and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20

Did you notice?  Jesus is outside trying to get in—HE is knocking at the door calling to “any man” who will “hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him”!  This church is so ‘self-sufficient’ that they don’t even need Jesus!  Ring any bells?  What are you depending on?  Do you “have need of nothing”?  Does your church “have need of nothing”?  Is Jesus knocking at your door?  Are we trying to pass off our ‘filthy rags’ as “righteousness” to God?  It didn’t work for the people in Isaiah’s day, and it won’t fool God today!  It didn’t fool Jesus in the church at Laodicea!  I can’t help but believe that we may be there!

So, are you (or your church) prayed up or ‘made up’?  It’s your choice, but choose wisely, there is a test!  Make sure you’re ready today!  For “... behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” 2 Corinthians 6:2b

Amen and Amen!!!

Whose Side??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #71

01 Wednesday Mar 2023

Whose Side???        A Word from THE WORD!!! #71

I have a simple but hard word to share this morning.  I am so grieved over the things I see around us–especially what I see and hear coming from the “churches”!  Much like Jeremiah, I grieve over the corruption, greed, lust, and just plain old SIN that is being accepted, promoted, and justified!  God hasn’t changed nor has HIS Word; but it seems that we have.

“Jesus Christ

the same yesterday,

and to day,

and for ever.”  Hebrews 13:8

We have presumed upon God’s mercy and grace and tried to make our sin a non-issue; but my friend SIN is the issue and no matter what the popular voices may say being born again makes us a new creation IN JESUS; it’s not a ‘get out of jail free’ card!

“The word of the LORD also came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man,

thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house,

which have eyes to see,

and see not;

they have ears to hear,

and hear not:

for they are a rebellious house.” Ezekiel 12:1-2

It seems that America (our whole world) has rebelled and denied the God who has been the One we have claimed to trust.  It appears to me that God has become not only a “byword”, but just a token that we name when we are in need, or tragedy or crises… we talk about God and prayer, but our lives reveal a total disregard for HIS ways, HIS Word and HIS SON, JESUS!  But there is a day of testing, and judgment coming–which side will you be on?  Paul gives us a warning that many neglect, but it is true, no matter what the movies, books and false prophets say!

“For the mystery of iniquity doth already work:

only he who now letteth will let,

until he be taken out of the way.

8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed,

whom the Lord shall consume

with the spirit of his mouth,

and shall destroy

with the brightness of his coming:

9 Even him, whose coming

is after the working of Satan

with all power

and signs

and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness

of unrighteousness

in them that perish;

because they received not

the love of the truth,

that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause

God shall send them strong delusion,

that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned

who believed not the truth,

but had pleasure

in unrighteousness.” 2 Thessalonians 2:7-12

And if I might add a note from Jeremiah (which I hope to dig into next week, as The Lord leads) who was grieved over the fall of Jerusalem and the captivity of his own people, because they rejected his word for some 40 years (and God’s for longer). While God is merciful and I pray for His continued grace and mercy toward us, His judgment is coming.  Will you be on HIS side?

“It is of the LORD’S mercies

that we are not consumed,

because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning:

great is thy faithfulness.

24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul;

therefore will I hope in him.

25 The LORD is good

unto them that wait for him,

to the soul that seeketh him.

26 It is good

that a man should both hope and quietly wait

for the salvation of the LORD.”  Lamentations 3:22-26

While God is merciful, judgment is coming, will you be among the deceived who reject HIS mercy, grace, and salvation in Jesus’ substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for SIN, or will you believe and be saved?

“(For he saith,

I have heard thee in a time accepted,

and in the day of salvation

have I succoured thee:

behold, now is the accepted time;

behold, now is the day of salvation.)”.  2 Corinthians 6:2

I pray that you will heed the voice of the Lord if HE is speaking to your heart and calling you unto Himself; that you won’t wait and try to come one day too late!

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20

Amen and Amen!!!

It’s Time??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #29

It’s Time???  A Word from THE WORD!!!  #29

Now is the time—now is the day; for this is the day “The Lord has made” and we never have assurance of tomorrow.  Make your choice today.

“(For he saith,

I have heard thee in a time accepted,

and in the day of salvation

have I succoured thee:

behold,

now

is the accepted time;

behold,

now

is the day of salvation.)”  2 Corinthians 6:2

I pray that this post will encourage us to take advantage of today—it is what we have, and we don’t have a guarantee of tomorrow, or another opportunity to come to Jesus, or to serve HIM obediently.  Paul warned his son-in-the-ministry that there would be difficult days ahead, and “perilous times” would come; well, my friends, Paul’s message could have come off the front page of any newspaper in the world!

“This know also,

that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 For men shall be

lovers of their own selves,

covetous,

boasters,

proud,

blasphemers,

disobedient to parents,

unthankful,

unholy,

3 Without natural affection,

trucebreakers,

false accusers,

incontinent,

fierce,

despisers of those that are good,

4 Traitors,

heady,

highminded,

lovers of pleasures

more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness,

but denying the power thereof:

from such turn away.”  2 Timothy 3:1-5

It saddens my heart that we are not “turning away” but it seems that we are rather inviting the devil into God’s house and work!  I would encourage you to go over this list and look up these words of description of our world now!  Yet, we can avoid this by following some other advice that Paul gave to Timothy, and to us.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God,

a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,

rightly dividing the word of truth.”  2 Timothy 2:15

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God,

and is profitable

for doctrine,

for reproof,

for correction,

for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect,

thoroughly furnished

unto all good works.”  2 Timothy 3:16-17

Are you and I using God’s Word to discern or the world’s?  May we truly strive to use God’s Word for our “doctrine…reproof… correction…and instruction in righteousness…”!  And just FYI, “perfect” means maturity not ‘perfection’!

We can have confident assurance that our Lord Jesus is returning, and we are to “Occupy till I come”; yet it seems we have surrendered just as our victory is about to appear.  I would just like to leave us with some food for thought.  It’s your choice, but choose wisely, there is a test, and it may be closer than you think.

“According to my earnest expectation

and my hope,

that in nothing I shall be ashamed,

but that with all boldness,

as always,

so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body,

whether it be by life,

or by death.

21 For to me to live is Christ,

and to die is gain.”  Philippians 1:20-21

What is it “to you”?  (Don’t miss the “to me” in verse 21, as many quote it and leave that out—it is Paul’s declaration of his decision to be devoted to Jesus in all things—every day)!  Let’s join Paul in devotion to Jesus!!!

“I am crucified with Christ:

nevertheless I live;

yet not I,

but Christ liveth in me:

and the life which I now live in the flesh

I live by the faith of the Son of God,

who loved me,

and gave himself for me.”  Galatians 2:20

Are we living by faith or by sight?  It all belongs to Jesus anyway!!!  Oh, precious Lord Jesus, help me to use my time wisely that I will be found faithful when you come……whenever that may be!!!

Amen and Amen!!!

How Long Will You Wait??? Bible Ballistics:Vol. 19 NO. 10

2 Corinthians 6;2, Acts 24:22-25, Acts 24:26-27, Acts 25:21-24, Acts 26:24-29, Don't wait too long, How long will you wait?, John 14:6, John 6:65, Proverbs 27:1, Revelation 3:20, Today is the day of Salvation, Trust in JESUS

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 19 No. 10   How Long Will You Wait???

There is a story in the book of Acts that I want to touch on today, for I think it is so pertinent to the day in which we live—a day much like Felix, Festus, and King Agrippa—curious, but not really wanting to know God or have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, The Son.  Paul had answered Felix the governor of the charges brought against him by the religious leaders, and Felix, being familiar with the situation had allowed Paul to openly respond, and Paul shared Jesus with him/them, and called his accusers into account for the things they accused him of.  Let’s pick jump in and take it on through portions of Acts 24-26!

“And when Felix heard these things,

having more perfect knowledge of that way,

he deferred them,

and said, When Lysias the chief captain

shall come down,

I will know the uttermost

of your matter.

23 And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul,

and to let him have liberty,

and that he should forbid

none of his acquaintance

to minister

or come unto him.

24 And after certain days,

when Felix came with his wife Drusilla,

which was a Jewess,

he sent for Paul,

and heard him

concerning the faith in Christ.

25 And as he reasoned

of righteousness,

temperance,

and judgment to come,

Felix trembled, and answered,

Go thy way for this time;

when I have a convenient season,

I will call for thee.”  Acts 24:22-25

And just to remind us of what Solomon said, “there is no new thing under the sun”—politicians haven’t changed:

“He hoped also that money

should have been given him of Paul,

that he might loose him:

wherefore he sent for him the oftener,

and communed with him.

27 But after two years Porcius Festus came

into Felix’ room:

and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure,

left Paul bound.”  Acts 24:26-27

I think we learn something from Paul, though, even though I’m sure he knew that a little “grease across the palm” could have purchased his freedom, God had already told him that HE had plans for his travels so Paul took every occasion to share the gospel with Felix for some two years.  He didn’t give up, get tired of the rejection, and he didn’t resort to fleshly solutions.   How about us?  How about you?  Are you and I becoming “weary” in “well doing” or are you like Felix and just keep putting Jesus off.  You don’t know how long you have.

“Boast not thyself of to morrow;

for thou knowest not

what a day may bring forth.”  Proverbs 27:1

To make a long story a bit shorter, Paul went through almost the same things with Festus so he appealed (as a Roman citizen, he exercised his right to appear before the emperor rather than the Jewish religious leaders in Jerusalem) to Caesar and in the course of events had the opportunity to speak before King Agrippa, who had heard from Festus about Paul; and it also reminds us that our opportunities aren’t ours to set.

“And he said,

Therefore said I unto you,

that no man can come unto me,

except it were given unto him

of my Father.”  John 6:65

So, as we consider Paul’s encounter with King Agrippa, I think it worthy our examination of our own relationship with Jesus.  What’s your excuse for denying Him?  If you’re HIS, what’s your excuse for not serving HIM now?

“But when Paul had appealed to be reserved

unto the hearing of Augustus,

I commanded him to be kept

till I might send him to Caesar.

22 Then Agrippa said unto Festus,

I would also hear the man myself.

To morrow, said he,

thou shalt hear him.

23 And on the morrow,

when Agrippa was come,

and Bernice,

with great pomp,

and was entered into the place of hearing,

with the chief captains,

and principal men of the city,

at Festus’ commandment

Paul was brought forth.

24 And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us,

ye see this man, about whom all the multitude

of the Jews have dealt with me,

both at Jerusalem,

and also here,

 crying that he ought not

to live any longer.”  Acts 25:21-24

To continue we see the result of Agrippa’s desire to hear Paul.  After sharing his personal testimony, Agrippa made his famous reply.  Will you stand with Agrippa in rejection or bow in repentance and faith before Jesus, and be born again?

“And as he thus spake for himself,

Festus said with a loud voice,

Paul, thou art beside thyself;

much learning doth make thee mad.

25 But he said,

I am not mad, most noble Festus;

but speak forth the words of truth

and soberness.

26 For the king knoweth of these things,

before whom also I speak freely:

for I am persuaded that none of these things

are hidden from him;

for this thing was not done in a corner.

27 King Agrippa,

believest thou the prophets?

I know that thou believest.

28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul,

Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

29 And Paul said,

I would to God,

that not only thou,

but also all that hear me this day,

were both almost,

and altogether such as I am,

except these bonds.”  Acts 26:24-29

Will you stand with Paul for all of eternity IN JESUS, or will you bow before Jesus in judgment with that said wail: I was “almost persuaded…. but lost”?  I pray that you will hear the voice of God’s call and come to Jesus today!

“…I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:6

“Behold,

I stand at the door, and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

 I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20

“(For he saith,

I have heard thee in a time accepted,

and in the day of salvation

have I succoured thee:

behold, now is the accepted time;

behold, now is the day of salvation.)”.   2 Corinthians 6:2

Today may be all we have.

Amen and Amen!!!
