The Winning Team???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #348

“God is faithful,

by whom ye were called

unto the fellowship of his Son

Jesus Christ our Lord.

10 Now I beseech you, brethren,

by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

that ye all speak the same thing,

 and that there be no divisions among you;

but that ye be perfectly joined together

in the same mind

and in the same judgment.”  1 Corinthians 1:9-10

America, the world in fact, is enamored with sports—any sport, no matter the genre, especially team sports, requires a unity of purpose and the drive with the goal of winning in mind!  A team without purpose and unity won’t go far.  As believers in Jesus Christ we are called to be unified, not uniform, but unified in Jesus.  There are things that we must believe and agree on that are essential to our faith, like who Jesus is, why He came and the truth that His death, burial and resurrection on the third day are what bring salvation to all who will come to Him in repentance, and faith/trust/belief in His substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for our sin.  And when we do that, we are on the winning team with a leader who will never fail!  Do you know this wonderful Savior?  He is coming soon, and our victory will be revealed by our King Jesus, who will come to deliver His own and judge those who have rejected Him and refused His saving grace!

“And I saw heaven opened,

and behold a white horse;

and he that sat upon him was called

Faithful and True,

and in righteousness

he doth judge and make war.

12 His eyes were as a flame of fire,

and on his head were many crowns;

and he had a name written,

that no man knew, but he himself.

13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood:

and his name is called

The Word of God.

14 And the armies which were in heaven

followed him upon white horses,

clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword,

that with it he should smite the nations:

and he shall rule them with a rod of iron:

and he treadeth the winepress

of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh

a name written,

KING OF KINGS,

AND LORD OF LORDS.”  Revelation 19:11-16

Our soon-coming King will reign, and we can share in His glory.  Are you ready?  Oh, my friend don’t stay on the wrong team; I implore you to come to Jesus while there is time, stand on the winning side—Jesus IS Lord—and with Him we win!  He is the only hope for glory!  Come today.

“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life,

clear as crystal,

proceeding out of the throne of God

and of the Lamb.

2 In the midst of the street of it,

and on either side of the river,

was there the tree of life,

which bare twelve manner of fruits,

and yielded her fruit every month:

and the leaves of the tree

were for the healing of the nations.

3 And there shall be no more curse:

but the throne of God and of the Lamb

shall be in it;

and his servants shall serve him:

4 And they shall see his face;

and his name shall be in their foreheads.

5 And there shall be no night there;

and they need no candle, neither light of the sun;

for the Lord God giveth them light:

and they shall reign for ever and ever.

6 And he said unto me,

These sayings are faithful and true:

and the Lord God of the holy prophets

sent his angel to shew unto his servants

the things which must shortly be done.

7 Behold, I come quickly:

blessed is he

that keepeth the sayings

of the prophecy of this book.”  Revelation 22:1-7

If you hear His voice calling you, please respond in repentance and faith and open the door!  He will come in, but He’ll never break down the door.  It’s your choice, but choose wisely, there is a test, and it may be closer than you thing.

“Behold,

I stand at the door, and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him, and he with me.

21 To him that overcometh

will I grant to sit with me in my throne,

even as I also overcame,

and am set down with my Father

in his throne.”  Revelation 3:20-21

Amen and Amen!!!  We win!!!

Have You Heard God’s Call???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #210

I have what I consider an important word for us this morning which will hopefully call each of us to examine our heart to see if we have heard the call of The Lord and Savior and responded in repentance and faith.

“Either what woman having ten pieces of silver,

if she lose one piece,

doth not light a candle,

and sweep the house,

and seek diligently

till she find it?

9 And when she hath found it,

she calleth her friends

and her neighbours together, saying,

Rejoice with me;

for I have found the piece

which I had lost.

10 Likewise, I say unto you,

there is joy in the presence of the angels of God

over one sinner that repenteth.”  Luke 15:8-10

We seem to have morphed the Gospel into a “formula” of speaking Jesus’ name and thinking we are His, just because we know His name.  I know a lot of famous people by their name, but I don’t “know” them; the same way many call Jesus’ name like a talisman or a heavenly slot machine—put in His name, pull the handle and you have what you want.  NOT!  Jesus made it clear that it’s not just His name, it’s knowing HIM through faith in His substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for sin, and repentance of my sin!

“There were present at that season some that told him

of the Galilaeans,

whose blood Pilate had mingled

with their sacrifices.

2 And Jesus answering said unto them,

Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners

above all the Galilaeans,

because they suffered such things?

3 I tell you, Nay:

but, except ye repent,

 ye shall all likewise perish.

4 Or those eighteen,

upon whom the tower in Siloam fell,

and slew them,

think ye that they were sinners

above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

5 I tell you, Nay:

but, except ye repent,

ye shall all likewise perish.”  Luke 13:1-5

John chapter 6-8 can be called the hard sayings of Jesus, and many walked away during those teachings of hard things, yet Jesus makes some statements that we need to consider. We can’t come to Jesus just anytime we want, it requires the conviction of the precious Holy Spirit of our sin, God’s calling us to repentance and faith in His Son.  If you’ve heard the voice of God speaking to your heart, I beg you not to turn that voice away—it may not come again.  We never know when God will stop speaking to our heart—don’t miss heaven by neglecting to be a “whosoever will, may come”!  You can choose to be one who walks away from Him, but as Joshua proclaimed, “As for me and my house, we will serve The Lord.”

“The Jews then murmured at him,

because he said,

I am the bread which came down from heaven.

42 And they said,

Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph,

whose father and mother we know?

how is it then that he saith,

I came down from heaven?

43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them,

Murmur not among yourselves.

44 No man can come to me,

except the Father which hath sent me

draw him:

and I will raise him up

at the last day…

…64 But there are some of you that believe not.

For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were

that believed not,

and who should betray him.

65 And he said,

Therefore said I unto you,

that no man can come unto me,

except it were given unto him of my Father.

66 From that time many of his disciples

went back, and walked no more with him.”  Portions of John 6:41-66

Don’t miss God’s voice speaking to you—even if you are a church member without Jesus, don’t be ashamed to repent and receive His saving grace and proclaim it to the world!  If you are a religious leader but have never responded to the voice of God—if He is calling you, answer in repentance and faith and proclaim it to the world!  God is looking for such bold servants, who proclaim the truth over error; don’t be misled down that “broad road” of “easy believeism” and miss Jesus and heaven. Jesus says it better than I can!  The many or the few—it’s your choice!

“Enter ye in at the strait gate:

for wide is the gate,

and broad is the way,

that leadeth to destruction,

and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate,

and narrow is the way,

which leadeth unto life,

and few there be that find it.

15 Beware of false prophets,

which come to you in sheep’s clothing,

but inwardly they are ravening wolves…

…. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me,

Lord, Lord,

shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;

but he that doeth

the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day,

Lord, Lord,

have we not prophesied in thy name?

and in thy name have cast out devils?

and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them,

I never knew you:

depart from me,

ye that work iniquity.”  Portions of Matthew 7:13-23

These are hard sayings, but they are of eternal import, and your soul’s destiny is at stake.  It’s your choice but choose wisely there is a test—and it’s God’s standard not yours that will prevail.  Ready or not Jesus is coming—and God has given Him the right of judgment!

“And I saw a great white throne,

and him that sat on it,

from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away;

and there was found no place for them.

12 And I saw the dead,

small and great,

stand before God;

and the books were opened:

and another book was opened,

which is the book of life:

and the dead were judged out of those things

which were written in the books,

according to their works.

13 And the sea

gave up the dead which were in it;

and death and hell

delivered up the dead which were in them:

and they were judged

every man

according to their works.

14 And death and hell

were cast into the lake of fire.

This is the second death.

15 And whosoever was not found written

in the book of life

was cast into the lake of fire.”  Revelation 20:11-15

Please don’t turn away from the voice of Jesus calling you—no matter your station, your place in the religious community, your pride, power or success, the people who might ridicule you—turn to Jesus in repentance and faith when HE calls to you, and don’t be ashamed of His saving grace!

“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men,

him will I confess also before my Father

which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men,

him will I also deny before my Father

which is in heaven.”  Matthew 10:32-33

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise,

as some men count slackness;

but is longsuffering to us-ward,

not willing that any should perish,

but that all should come to repentance.”   2 Peter 3:9

Don’t miss Jesus today!  He’s calling!  He’s coming!  He loves you and so do we!

Hell’s Real, Hot and Eternal??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #116

Hell’s real, Hell’s hot, and Eternity is long!  The choice is yours, but the consequence of your choice is already set!

“But ye are not in the flesh,

but in the Spirit,

if so be that the Spirit of God

dwell in you.

Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ,

he is none of his.”  Romans 8:9

The presence of the indwelling Holy Spirit is the New Covenant which Jesus Christ purchased at Calvary; and Paul makes it clear that if “any” person who claims the name of Jesus but doesn’t have The Holy Spirit, “he is none of his”! Are you HIS?  Do you have HIS Holy Spirit?  There is only one way to be HIS and to possess The Holy Spirit (or more correctly to have The Holy Spirit possess you!), and that is to be born again by the blood of Jesus!  I could list scripture upon scripture to show this truth, but I’ll settle for 3 that I pray will help you see JESUS, and come to Him in repentance of your sin, and faith in HIS substitutionary, atoning sacrifice!  No magic words, formula prayers, or church membership will save you–only trusting in God’s grace through faith to deliver you in response to the voice of The Holy Spirit calling you to HIM!

“Neither is there salvation in any other:

for there is none other name under heaven

given among men,

whereby we must be saved.”  Acts 4:10

“Jesus saith unto him,

I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:6

“No man can come to me,

except the Father which hath sent me draw him:

and I will raise him up at the last day.”  John 6:44

Jesus gave us one of the most beautiful yet sad pictures of the reality of eternal life-vs-eternal death, and I’d like to share it today.  And just my personal note, I think this is a real story that Jesus told, for He never named a real person in any of His parables!  I also believe that He didn’t name the “rich man” because the people would have recognized it if He had (just my opinion, you decide what you see.). And just a little test for you, this is not long before Jesus’ death, so which part of this story would make even more sense and be of an even more staggering truth with that in mind? (Hint: it’s close to the end! And it’s still true today!)

“There was a certain rich man,

which was clothed in purple and fine linen,

and fared sumptuously every day:

20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus,

which was laid at his gate,

full of sores,

21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs

which fell from the rich man’s table:

moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 And it came to pass,

that the beggar died,

and was carried by the angels

into Abraham’s bosom:

the rich man also died,

and was buried;

23 And in hell he lift up his eyes,

being in torments,

and seeth Abraham afar off,

and Lazarus in his bosom.

24 And he cried and said,

Father Abraham,

have mercy on me,

and send Lazarus,

that he may dip the tip of his finger

in water,

and cool my tongue;

for I am tormented in this flame.

25 But Abraham said,

Son, remember that thou

in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things,

and likewise Lazarus

evil things:

but now he is comforted,

and thou art tormented.

26 And beside all this,

between us and you there is a great gulf

fixed: so that they which would pass

from hence to you cannot;

neither can they pass to us,

that would come from thence.

27 Then he said,

I pray thee therefore, father,

that thou wouldest send him

to my father’s house:

28 For I have five brethren;

that he may testify unto them,

lest they also come into this place

of torment.

29 Abraham saith unto him,

They have Moses and the prophets;

let them hear them.

30 And he said,

Nay, father Abraham:

but if one went unto them from the dead,

they will repent.

31 And he said unto him,

If they hear not Moses and the prophets,

neither will they be persuaded,

though one rose from the dead.”  Luke 17:19-31

I pray that you will hear the voice of Jesus today, and that if you don’t know HIM yet, you will bow before Him today and call on HIM for forgiveness of your sin, and salvation/eternal life that HE paid for at Calvary!  If you know HIM and aren’t living for HIM or in HIS power, I pray that you will see eternity all around you.  How many that we love are headed for hell?  What have you and I done to share Jesus’ truth with them?  Let’s get busy, for surely Hell IS real, Hell IS hot, and eternity IS forever, with no second chances! And just a side note, here we see the greatest evangelist of all time, this rich man was more concerned about his family left behind than we often are!  You decide, when will you share the Gospel of Jesus?
