A Christmas Word–Part 1???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #166

I’d like to spend some time today thinking about the only true ‘reason for the season’, and that my friends is JESUS!  No, He wasn’t born on December 25th, but it is the date chosen to honor our Lord’s birth—the long-awaited coming of The Messiah to Redeem mankind; for all who will believe.  So let’s back up a bit and do a short review of why we need Jesus!

“For all have sinned,

and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death;

but the gift of God

is eternal life

through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Romans 6:23

Why do we need this gift, you might ask; well that’s a good question, and we’ll briefly consider the answer—it’s the reason we trust The Word of God—it gives us the ‘whole truth’.  And that begins in Eden with the first man and woman (And yes, God created them “male and female”, read the account!).  We won’t go into the whole story but just some portions of Genesis 1, 2 and 3; and yes, my friends, I believe the Bible from Genesis to Revelation; I believe that we were/are are created in “the image of God….”!  Let’s dig in.

“For God so loved the world,

that he gave his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him

should not perish,

but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16

“Forasmuch as ye know that

ye were not redeemed with corruptible things,

as silver and gold,

from your vain conversation

received by tradition from your fathers;

19 But with the precious blood of Christ,

as of a lamb without blemish

and without spot:

20 Who verily was foreordained

before the foundation of the world,

but was manifest in these last times

for you,

21 Who by him do believe in God,

that raised him up from the dead,

and gave him glory;

that your faith and hope

might be in God.”  1 Peter 1:18-21

Why was/is man perishing?  It’s because of sin—it’s the disease; we all have it, we can’t cure it, only Jesus can, how did we get in this shape?  Our first parents failed the test, but in God’s love and mercy HE already had a plan in place to redeem us; He knew we would fail, and He created us anyway—a concept that is beyond my comprehension (and yes, I believe in the Genesis account of creation in six literal days).

“In the beginning

God created

the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

“And God said,

Let us make man in our image,

after our likeness:

and let them have dominion

over the fish of the sea,

and over the fowl of the air,

and over the cattle,

and over all the earth,

and over every creeping thing

that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man

in his own image,

in the image of God created he him;

male and female

created he them.”  Genesis 1:26-27

Genesis 2 goes on to fill in some more of the details for us and sets the stage for us to understand.

“And the LORD God formed man

of the dust of the ground,

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;

and man became a living soul.

8 And the LORD God planted a garden

eastward in Eden;

and there he put the man

whom he had formed…

…16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying,

Of every tree of the garden

thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge

of good and evil,

thou shalt not eat of it:

for in the day that thou eatest thereof

thou shalt surely die.”   Portions of Genesis 2:7-17

The saddest part of this account to me, is that we failed to believe God, at the prompting of Satan, the great “father of lies” (see John 8:44); how sad that we’re still falling for the same old lies!  But we did eat, and we did die spiritually on the spot, and physically later, and still do! It’s why Jesus so boldly and powerfully reminds us:

“The thief cometh not,

but for to steal,

and to kill,

and to destroy:

I am come that they might have life,

and that they might have it more abundantly.

11 I am the good shepherd:

the good shepherd

giveth his life for the sheep.”  John 10:10-11

Jesus came to give us back the life with God that Satan stole, tricked, and deceived our first parents out of.  How much have we been tricked out of by this ‘liar of liars’? There is a price to pay, and we pay it every day, except as we walk “in the Spirit” with our Lord (See Galatians 5:16 & 25)!  But back to Genesis, He’s our Lord not only because He came, but because God promised HIS coming from before the beginning!

“And I will put enmity

between thee and the woman,

and between thy seed and her seed;

it shall bruise thy head,

and thou shalt bruise his heel.”  Genesis 3:15

Jesus IS the great restorer!  Our great and good Redeemer!  Our soon-coming KING!  This is why I celebrate HIS birth!  How about you?

“And she shall bring forth a son,

and thou shalt call his name JESUS:

for he shall save his people from their sins.

22 Now all this was done,

that it might be fulfilled

which was spoken of the Lord

by the prophet, saying,

23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child,

and shall bring forth a son,

and they shall call his name Emmanuel,

which being interpreted is, God with us.”   Matthew 1:21-23

Amen and Amen!!!

Bible Ballistics: BBs #752      Only Two!!!  Really???

I would like to share an important post with you this morning, and while I won’t comment a lot, it’s not because I don’t have much to say, but because I simply want to share God’s Word with you and offer a few comments and ask you to consider what you are accepting and following as truth.

“In the beginning

God created the heaven and the earth…

…And God said,

Let us make man

in our image,

after our likeness:

and let them have dominion

over the fish of the sea,

and over the fowl of the air,

and over the cattle,

and over all the earth,

and over every creeping thing

that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man

in his own image,

in the image of God

created he him;

male and female

created he them.”  Portions of Genesis 1:1 & 26-27

More of the details are revealed in Genesis 2, with the account of the establishment of marriage, the home, and our moral boundaries.

“And the LORD God said,

It is not good

that the man should be alone;

I will make him an help meet for him…

…21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep

to fall upon Adam,

and he slept:

and he took one of his ribs,

and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

22 And the rib,

which the LORD God had taken

from man,

made he a woman,

and brought her unto the man.

23 And Adam said,

This is now

bone of my bones,

and flesh of my flesh:

she shall be called Woman,

because she was taken out of Man.

24 Therefore shall a man

leave his father and his mother,

and shall cleave unto his wife:

and they shall be one flesh.”  Portions of Genesis 2:18-24

While many dispute and deny the truth of the Genesis account of creation, and also deny that the New Testament even deals with creation, I would challenge you to check it out!  For there are many references not only to the Genesis account of creation, but Jesus Himself confirmed the truth of scripture and mentioned not only the Genesis account of creation, particularly God’s establishment of marriage, but he also referred to Daniel and Jonah—two of the most debated and denied books of scripture.

“And he answered and said unto them,

Have ye not read,

 that he which made them

at the beginning

made them male and female,

5 And said, For this cause

shall a man leave father and mother,

and shall cleave to his wife:

and they twain shall be one flesh?

6 Wherefore they are no more twain,

but one flesh.

What therefore God hath joined together,

let not man put asunder.”  Matthew 19:4-6

While our culture has almost completely disregarded God’s plan and instructions for marriage, I praise God that He forgives and restores.  He gives that “living water” that heals the soul of sin and makes us “new creatures” in Jesus.  I know because I am one of those “Samaritan women” who needed saving and healing from my sin and disregard of God’s way!  What an amazing God we serve.  Like the Samaritan woman, until we see our sin as sin, we have no need of a Savior! How about you?  Are you a sinner in need of a Savior?  Jesus is waiting for you to call upon Him to drink of His living water!

“Jesus answered and said unto her,

Whosoever drinketh of this water

shall thirst again:

14 But whosoever drinketh of the water

that I shall give him

shall never thirst;

but the water that I shall give him

shall be in him a well of water

 springing up into everlasting life.

15 The woman saith unto him,

Sir, give me this water,

that I thirst not,

neither come hither to draw.

16 Jesus saith unto her,

Go, call thy husband,

and come hither.

17 The woman answered and said,

I have no husband.

Jesus said unto her,

 Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18 For thou hast had five husbands;

and he whom thou now hast

is not thy husband:

in that saidst thou truly…

…24 God is a Spirit:

and they that worship him

must worship him in spirit and in truth.

25 The woman saith unto him,

I know that Messias cometh,

which is called Christ:

when he is come,

he will tell us all things.

26 Jesus saith unto her,

I that speak unto thee am he…

…28 The woman then left her waterpot,

and went her way into the city,

and saith to the men,

29 Come, see a man,

which told me all things that ever I did:

is not this the Christ?”  Portions of John 4:13-29

Here was a woman who had completely strayed from God’s plan and Jesus brought faith, restoration, and a new vibrant testimony of finding the Messiah.  And this is an amazing thing, for this is the first recorded account of Jesus revealing Himself openly—and not only to a woman, but a Samaritan woman!  A totally ‘anti-cultural’ move, truly declaring that “whosoever will, may come”!  The choice is ours/yours—to believe in Jesus or to reject/deny Him.  It’s your choice—to believe in Jesus—to honor marriage or desecrate it—to obey or to reject the ONE who died for YOU.  “Come, see a man”!  God did create male and female, and HE set the design and plan for mankind and the home, and regardless of what men may say today, God has spoken, and HE will hold men accountable.

“Whosoever therefore shall confess me

before men,

him will I confess

also before my Father which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me

before men,

him will I also deny

before my Father which is in heaven.”  Matthew 10:32-33

Please consider what God has said and respond to HIS call on your heart.  Jesus is ready to save right now!  It’s your choice, but choose wisely, there is a test.

“If we confess our sins,

he is faithful and just

to forgive us our sins,

and to cleanse us

from all unrighteousness.

10 If we say that we have not sinned,

we make him a liar,

and his word is not in us.”  1 John 1:9-10

Amen and Amen!!!

Jesus In Genesis Pt. 1!!! Bible Ballistics: Vol. 13 No. 05

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 13 No.05    Jesus In Genesis Pt.1!!!

I’d like us to spend the next few weeks considering the great creator that we serve. So many today think that God isn’t creator, much less Jesus, so I think it would be worth our while to spend some time considering what The Word says about our creator.

“In the beginning

God created

the heaven

and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void;

and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

And the Spirit of God

moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said,

Let there be light:

and there was light.”  Genesis 1:1-3

While I believe in the literal view of God’s creation account as recorded in the book of Genesis, I know that some of you may not concur, I simply ask you to consider these things because they are more import than most today understand.  If God didn’t create the earth, then what hope do we have—if there is no God who created us, then there is no need for a Savior! If God didn’t create the world by HIS ‘Word’ then what do we have to stand on?  For if there is no creator, then the account recorded in Genesis is unreliable—there is no Adam and Eve.  If there is no Adam and Eve, then there is no sin.  If there is no sin—then there is no lust, sin, death or hell; and we have no need for a Redeemer!!!  And redemption is The Work that God sent Jesus to accomplish!  Jesus is the redeemer of the world and it all started with God, even before the beginning. We must know truth!

“Father, I will that they also,

whom thou hast given me,

be with me

where I am;

that they may behold my glory,

which thou hast given me:

for thou lovedst me

before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father,

the world hath not known thee:

 but I have known thee,

and these have known

that thou hast sent me.”  John 17:24-25

Jesus was with the Father before the “foundation of the world”, yet that’s not all The Word says about creation!

“Blessed be the God and Father

of our Lord Jesus Christ,

who hath blessed us

with all spiritual blessings

in heavenly places

in Christ:

4 According as he hath chosen us

in him

before the foundation of the world,

that we should be holy

and without blame

before him in love:”    Ephesians 1:3-4

Peter also refers to this doctrine of the pre-foundation plan of God!

“Forasmuch as ye know

that ye were not redeemed

with corruptible things,

as silver and gold,

from your vain conversation

received by tradition from your fathers;

19 But with the precious blood of Christ,

 as of a lamb without blemish

and without spot:

20 Who verily was foreordained

before the foundation of the world,

but was manifest in these last times

for you,

21 Who by him do believe

in God,

that raised him up from the dead,

and gave him glory;

that your faith and hope

might be in God.”   1 Peter 1:18-21

Jesus gave His life that we might be saved.  He came to save and transform men, women, boys and girls into children of God.  He changes us from lost sinners into redeemed and transformed saints.  All by God’s design—which He set in motion even before He created man–knowing that we would sin, yet He created us anyway (a choice, which by the way, is far from what we would have done!)!  He created us in His own image knowing that we would choose sin, and Jesus would have to give His life for ours, He would be the very lamb who came to die for you and me, to redeem us “with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot”!  He loved us then, and He loves us now, calling us to Himself.

“He was in the world,

and the world was made by him,

and the world knew him not.

11 He came unto his own,

and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him,

to them gave he power

to become the sons of God,

even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born,

not of blood,

nor of the will of the flesh,

nor of the will of man,

but of God.

14 And the Word was made flesh,

and dwelt among us,

(and we beheld his glory,

the glory as of the only begotten

of the Father,)

full of grace and truth.

15 John bare witness of him,

and cried, saying,

This was he

of whom I spake,

He that cometh after me

 is preferred before me:

for he was before me.”   John 1:10-15

Jesus pre-existed John, even though John was conceived 6 months before Jesus—John is telling us that Jesus is deity.  He IS God.  And while many claim that Jesus never said that, the truth is HE did, more than once.

“My Father,

which gave them me,

is greater than all;

and no man is able to pluck them

out of my Father’s hand.

30 I and my Father are one.”  John 10:29-30

“The woman saith unto him,

I know that Messias cometh,

which is called Christ:

when he is come,

he will tell us all things.

26 Jesus saith unto her,

I that speak unto thee am he.”   John 4:25-26

While poems claim that only God can create particular things (a tree, a bird…etc.), God is the creator and sustainer of all things, but not without the Son. While the Son isn’t mentioned in Genesis 1 by name, He was/is there.

“And God said,

Let us make man

in our image,

after our likeness:

and let them have dominion

over the fish of the sea,

and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle,

and over all the earth,

and over every creeping thing

that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man

in his own image,

in the image of God

created he him;

male and female

created he them.” Genesis 1:26-27

But you might ask, “How do we know that Jesus was there?”  Well, as the children’s song says, “The Bible tells me so!” (from ‘Jesus Loves Me”, written by Anna Bartlett Warner over 100 years ago!). So, let’s dig in to some passages that help answer that question, and then next week we’ll dig deeper.  We’ll start with John’s beautiful passage that clearly points to the ‘creator’ Jesus.

“In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

2 The same was

in the beginning

with God.

3 All things were made by him;

and without him

was not any thing made

that was made.

4 In him was life;

and the life

was the light of men.

5 And the light

shineth in darkness;

and the darkness

comprehended it not.”  John 1:1-5

John makes it clear that Jesus IS creator, and we will look next week at the fact that God created by “speaking” things into creation, and Jesus is “The Word”!  But let’s examine even more Biblical evidence.

“God, who at sundry times

and in divers manners

spake in time past

unto the fathers

by the prophets,

2 Hath in these last days

spoken unto us

by his Son,

whom he hath appointed heir

of all things,

by whom also

he made the worlds;

3 Who being the brightness of his glory,

and the express image of his person,

and upholding all things

by the word of his power,

when he had by himself

 purged our sins,

sat down on the right hand

of the Majesty on high;”   Hebrews 1:1-3

Did you get that? God made the worlds by HIM, Jesus!  And He is the essence that holds this world together—without Him we would be helpless and hopeless!  It is HIS blood that saves and transforms lives still today.

“Giving thanks unto the Father,

which hath made us meet to be partakers

of the inheritance of the saints

in light:

13 Who hath delivered us

from the power of darkness,

and hath translated us

into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14 In whom we have redemption

through his blood,

even the forgiveness

of sins:

15 Who is the image of the invisible God,

the firstborn of every creature:

16 For by him

were all things created,

that are in heaven,

and that are in earth,

visible and invisible,

whether they be thrones,

or dominions,

or principalities,

or powers:

all things were created

by him,

and for him:

17 And he is before all things,

and by him all things consist.

18 And he is the head of the body,

the church:

who is the beginning,

 the firstborn from the dead;

that in all things

he might have the preeminence.

19 For it pleased the Father

that in him

should all fulness dwell;

20 And, having made peace

through the blood of his cross,

by him to reconcile

all things unto himself;

by him, I say,

whether they be things

in earth,

or things in heaven.”   Colossians 1:12-20

And to wrap up today, God is not only The Creator of all things physical, but also the spiritual.  Just as John said:

“12 But as many as received him,

to them gave he power

to become the sons of God,

even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born,

not of blood,

nor of the will of the flesh,

nor of the will of man,

but of God.”

 Born of God by the power of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.  He created us and bought us back to Himself by the blood of Jesus.  We can choose to receive the gift of salvation or perish without HIM!

“That at that time ye were without Christ,

being aliens

from the commonwealth of Israel,

and strangers

from the covenants of promise,

having no hope,

and without God

in the world:

13 But now in Christ Jesus

ye who sometimes were far off

are made nigh

by the blood of Christ.

14 For he is our peace,

who hath made both one,

and hath broken down the middle wall

of partition between us;

15 Having abolished in his flesh

 the enmity,

even the law of commandments

contained in ordinances;

for to make in himself

of twain

one new man,

so making peace;

16 And that he might reconcile both

unto God

in one body

by the cross,

having slain the enmity

thereby:

17 And came and preached peace

to you which were afar off,

and to them that were nigh.

18 For through him we both

have access by one Spirit

unto the Father.

19 Now therefore ye are no more

strangers

and foreigners,

but fellowcitizens

with the saints,

and of the household of God;

20 And are built upon the foundation

of the apostles

and prophets,

Jesus Christ himself

being the chief corner stone;”    Ephesians 2:12-20

Is HE your creator?  Is HE your Lord and Savior?  He came that you and I might have life—eternal life—abundant life—God’s life in us (that part which died when Adam and Eve sinned!).  And here are a few passages that help us understand what that means.

“And this is life eternal,

that they might know thee

the only true God,

and Jesus Christ,

whom thou hast sent.”   John 17:3

“And this is the promise

that he hath promised us,

even eternal life.”  1 John 2:25

“And this is the record,

that God

hath given to us

eternal life,

and this life

is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son

hath life;

and he that hath not the Son of God

hath not life.”  1 John 5:11-12

Do you know the “life” of the “creator”?  I pray that you do!

Amen and Amen!!!  We’ll continue next week, Lord willing!

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 12 No.15 Overcoming Prejudice???

Prejudice: “any unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand, without knowledge, thought or reason; any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable; unreasonable feelings, opinions or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding an ethnic, racial, social, or religious group.” Simply put it means to ‘judge’ something beforehand.

There’s a lot of talk about “prejudice” regarding race, ethnicity, social issues as well as religious beliefs, yet oft times it’s simply a matter coming back to God’s Word and remembering that God created “man” in His own image! Contrary to popular teaching, all things were created by God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and when remember that, it should change some attitudes!

“And God said,

Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness:

and let them have dominion

over the fish of the sea,

and over the fowl of the air,

and over the cattle,

and over all the earth,

and over every creeping thing

that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God

created man

in his own image,

in the image of God

created he him;

male and female

created he them.” Genesis 1:26-27

God The Creator made “man in our image”, creating us “In the beginning” and “in his own image” (Father, Son and Holy Spirit): All mankind—in—Adam! (See 1 Cor. 15:45)

“In the beginning God

created the heaven and the earth….

2…….And the Spirit of God

moved upon the face of the waters……….

And God said,

Let there be…..” Portions of Genesis 1:1-3

We find the Holy Spirit of God involved in this account of creation, and we know that Jesus was/is God and He was there as well. The Apostle John fills in the details in this regard.

“In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning

with God.

3 All things were made by him;

and without him

was not any thing made

that was made.”   John 1:1-3

John clearly assures us that Jesus was God, is God and all things “were made by him”, who was there with the Father and Holy Spirit in the Genesis creation account! Interestingly enough God created through something so simple that we often overlook its import, “And God said, Let there be..”—God spoke and “there was”! Jesus is so aptly described by John as “the Word”—the very vehicle of God’s demonstrated creative power through His Son, The Word! Paul also proclaims this creative work of Jesus in his letter to the Colossians, Jesus who is God, was God and ever shall be God, is holding all things together! (See Heb. 1:3)

“Who hath delivered us

from the power of darkness,

and hath translated us

into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14 In whom we have redemption

through his blood,

even the forgiveness of sins:

15 Who is the image

of the invisible God,

the firstborn

of every creature:

16 For by him

were all things created,

that are in heaven,

and that are in earth,

visible

and invisible,

whether they be thrones,

or dominions,

or principalities,

or powers:

all things were created by him,

and for him:

17 And he is before all things,

and by him all things consist.” Colossians 1:13-17

When we recognize God as The Creator, we must also recognize that since God The Father, Jesus The Son, and The Holy Spirit are the agent of creation, and “mankind” was created as the crowning glory we must act upon it! The Word clearly reveals to us that “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him”—all men, women, boys and girls were and are created “in the image of God”! That my friend is regardless of color, race, ethnic origin, social order or religious beliefs. God calls us to remember that HE is creator and we are to respect all of His creation, especially His crowning glory! How can we hold those who are created in the image of God as less worthy of regard than we are? While we may differ greatly in our backgrounds, our opinions, our beliefs and our actions (and generally our real beliefs will dictate our actions), we are to treat each other with at the very least kindness not arrogant disregard for whatever reason.

What does all this have to do with overcoming “prejudice”? I think it has a lot to do with it, because when we judge others unworthy of God’s grace and salvation because of any ‘external’ issue, we have put ourselves in God’s place!

How much does it cost to be kind and respectful? Not much! And I want to make it clear that I’m not talking about compromise with sin, biblical Christianity, salvation or the truths of God’s Word, but I am talking about acting as though we are better than others because we are followers of Jesus, or of a particular skin-color, or from a particular social group or have more “stuff”, or more “culture”, or more “knowledge” than other persons. Daniel reminds us in his prayer of praise for answered prayer, that God is totally in control, and it’s only by God’s grace that we are who we are, where we are and possessing the opportunities that we have been given.

“Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel

 in a night vision.

Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

20 Daniel answered and said,

Blessed be the name of God

for ever and ever:

for wisdom and might

are his:

21 And he changeth

the times

and the seasons:

he removeth

kings,

and setteth up

kings:

he giveth wisdom

unto the wise,

and knowledge

to them that know understanding:

22 He revealeth

the deep

and secret things:

he knoweth

what is in the darkness,

and the light

dwelleth with him.

23 I thank thee, and praise thee,

O thou God of my fathers,

who hast given me

wisdom

and might,

and hast made known unto me now

what we desired

of thee:

for thou hast now made known

unto us

the king’s matter.” Daniel 2:19-23

Daniel was focused on God in all things, and we must do the same—Daniel was in service to a pagan king who was the enemy of his people, yet he served him with honor, respect, and faithful service by always honoring God and crediting HIM for his own abilities, and for answered prayer. We ought to be kind and helpful to those whom God brings into our lives by His sovereign work—regardless of how they look, or smell, or behave (Not compromising truth but “speaking the truth in love”, see Ephesians 4:15!), or whether or not they accept our kindness or believe our witness!

I had an experience that God used to get my attention just last week. We were traveling and happened to go to a particular restaurant and there saw an employee who was less than attentive or kind, and while she was different from us, it seemed that she didn’t feel well and I asked her about how she felt, and she shared that she didn’t feel well, and I offered to pray for her to feel better soon (And I did pray for her as we sat down). In God’s providence, the next day we ‘happened’ to return to that same restaurant (for we had planned to go elsewhere yet circumstances took us back to that same place), and this same employee was there again and seemed to be better. As we were seated she walked by and I asked about her well-being and she said she did feel better, and I told her something like, “God hears and answers prayer!” and she smiled broadly and was most attentive to our party—a totally different person than she was the day before! Now I don’t say this to brag, but to remind us that a simple act of kindness and Christian compassion may make a difference to someone that we may be tempted to “pre” judge as too different from us and not worthy of our regard, compassion, patience or kindness!

As John wrote in his 1st epistle, we are to love one another (And yes I understand the context is referring to brother and sister believers, but the principle also applies to those whom Jesus called our “neighbors”! See Luke 10:29-37) because God “first loved us”! Not because we were worthy but because “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son….”!

“We love him,

because he first loved us.

20 If a man say, I love God,

and hateth his brother,

he is a liar:

for he that loveth not his brother

whom he hath seen,

how can he love God

whom he hath not seen?

21 And this commandment have we from him,

That he who loveth God

love his brother also.” 1 John 4:19-21

Who are we “loving”?  What are we “giving”?  Are we only kind to those who are kind to us? Do we see the world through God’s eyes, or through our own prejudices?

So, my simple question for us today is, “Are we overcoming ‘prejudice’ or are our ‘prejudices’ overcoming our faith and the Word of God?” Are we so entrenched in pride, self, arrogance, and self-righteousness that we have missed the fact that just because we are a follower of Jesus, God doesn’t excuse our sin? And snubbing, hating and disregarding others simply because they are different or because we don’t agree with them isn’t how we ought to behave—it’s not ‘love in action’! Are we hating what/who God loves? Or does God hate what we love or what we use to excuse our behavior? Sin is sin, not matter who commits it!

“These six things doth the LORD hate:

yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look,

a lying tongue,

and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,

feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies,

and he that soweth discord among brethren.

20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment,

and forsake not the law of thy mother:

21 Bind them continually upon thine heart,                                         and tie them about thy neck.

22 When thou goest,

it shall lead thee;

when thou sleepest,

it shall keep thee;

and when thou awakest,

it shall talk with thee.

23 For the commandment is a lamp;

and the law is light;

and reproofs of instruction

are the way of life:” Proverbs 6:16-23

Did you notice the last two? A “false witness that speaketh lies” and “he that soweth discord among brethren” are two of the seven things that God hates because they are contrary to the nature of God; and when we “pre” judge someone without the facts, simply because we think we “know” about “their kind”—that they are “one of ‘those’ people”—we may very well be speaking lies and sowing discord. And there certainly is a lot of discord being sown with wrong motives and agendas that don’t line up with The Word of God! Often because we are practicing the first thing in God’s list—pride!

So may we remember that even those people with whom we may rightly disagree, are worthy of our kindness and compassion—maybe God sent them to us so that we could lead them to the cross—not run them off with the stick of our mean, selfish, prideful imaginings against them! And please believe me when I tell you, this message has been to me just as much as to anyone else; yet only when we yield ourselves to God’s work of love, grace and truth will we find the strength and power to take HIS message to a lost and dying world one kindness at a time, without “pre” judging those God sends our way!

“Therefore being justified by faith,

we have peace with God

through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access by faith

into this grace

wherein we stand,

and rejoice in hope

of the glory of God.

3 And not only so,

but we glory in tribulations also:

knowing that tribulation

worketh patience;

4 And patience,

experience;

and experience,

hope:

5 And hope maketh not ashamed;

because the love of God

is shed abroad in our hearts

by the Holy Ghost

which is given unto us.” Romans 5:1-5

Amen and Amen!
