Standing In Confidence??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #250

 

I have a few things to share with you this morning, and I pray that they will encourage your heart on this hot summer day (at least here in Oklahoma it’s scorching hot–), but no matter your location, our God is faithful in all things, and we can prevail over the evil around us!

Paul’s great chapter on the confidence that we can have in the resurrection and the return of our Lord concludes with an amazing passage of encouragement.  No matter your situation—God knows your grief, your sorrow, your fears, your uncertainty in the future, your confusion over the world situations—take heart for the Apostle John made it clear in The Revelation!

“And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude,

and as the voice of many waters,

and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying,

Alleluia:

for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.”   Revelation 19:6

So, let’s consider Paul’s words of encouragement—We win!!!

“O death,

where is thy sting?

O grave,

where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death

is sin;

and the strength of sin

is the law.

57 But thanks be to God,

which giveth us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren,

 be ye stedfast,

unmoveable,

always abounding

 in the work of the Lord,

 forasmuch as ye know

that your labour is not in vain

in the Lord.”  1 Corinthians 15:55-58

So, my friends, take heart, God has not stepped down from His throne, nor has He relinquished His omnipotent control of all things!  You can trust to His care, for He keeps His Word!  Always!  We can know truth because Jesus IS truth, and the only way to God and heaven.  So if you know Him, you can “withstand in the evil day” (See Ephesians 6:10-18); and if you don’t know Jesus you can, by simply repenting of your sin, and believing that HE is the one who paid for your sin by His substitutionary, atoning sacrifice on the cross.

“Thomas saith unto him,

Lord, we know not whither thou goest;

and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him,

I am

the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:5-6

Jesus loves us, and offers us life and victory by His death, burial and resurrection for sin.  Keep your eyes on the prize—JESUS!!!  He is coming again and sooner than we may think!

“In hope of eternal life,

which God,

that cannot lie,

promised before the world began;”   Titus 1:2

Waiting For The Rain???      A Word from THE WORD!!! #207

“Be patient therefore, brethren,

unto the coming of the Lord.

Behold, the husbandman

waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth,

and hath long patience for it,

until he receive

the early

and latter rain.

8 Be ye also patient;

stablish your hearts:

for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.”  James 5:7-8

We live in Oklahoma and drought is often an issue here; we look for the rain and while it sometimes comes with damaging winds, hail, and other frightening weather phenomenon, we are grateful for that earth refreshing water from heaven.  It’s sometimes difficult to wait for rain—to see ponds dry up, green turn to brown, leaves fall off prematurely and other results of drought—but God!  God has a plan, and we have to practice the “patience” which James calls believers to walk in.

James reminds believers to remember that our Lord Jesus Christ is returning, and while some are skeptical, as Peter mentioned in his second letter (See 2 Peter 3:1-12), but we must put on our armor as we wait for the return of our Lord, even as the farmers wait for the rain to bring their crops to harvest.  James goes on to remind us that prayer isn’t an instant fix, but rather it is a display before a lost and dying world of our hope in The One who is sovereignly, totally ruling this world—all of it.  And while He allows Satan to have a measure of power in this world (Ephesians 2:1-10, and that’s a lesson for another time), his time is limited, and God holds the leash!  James mentions the prayer of Elijah as he encountered the prophets of Baal.  We must not forget to check out the context.  God told Elijah to pray—first that it wouldn’t rain for three-plus years, then God sent him out again, and Elijah openly defied Ahab and Jezebel along with the prophets of idolatry.  So Elijah prayed, yes; but He prayed that which God led him to pray, and God heard, and answered, yet not immediately even then!  Don’t be impatient with what God is doing!  We don’t usually see beyond right now, yet God is working eternity into us!  (Read 1 Kings 17 and 18).

“Confess your faults

one to another,

and pray one for another,

that ye may be healed.

The effectual fervent prayer

of a righteous man

availeth much.

17 Elias was a man

subject to like passions as we are,

and he prayed earnestly

that it might not rain:

and it rained not on the earth by

the space of three years and six months.

18 And he prayed again,

and the heaven gave rain,

and the earth brought forth her fruit.”   James 5:16-18

Jesus reminded us to look for His return, not fret over the situations around us.  Don’t be alarmed by the activity in God’s creation!  He set it all in place, and all creation heeds His will—except for man.  Will you bow before Jesus, rest in His love, care, and provision, keeping your eyes on Him, or depend on the questionable commentary of man!  Let God’s Word be your standard, your plumbline, your bedrock foundation, so that you can stand fast “in the evil day”!  Amen and Amen!!!

“And when these things begin to come to pass,

then look up, and lift up your heads;

for your redemption draweth nigh.”  Luke 21:28

Smile!!  Jesus Is On The Way!!!  A Word from THE WORD!!! #176

“Let not your heart be troubled:

ye believe in God,

believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions:

if it were not so, I would have told you.

I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you,

I will come again,

and receive you unto myself;

that where I am, there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know,

and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him,

Lord, we know not whither thou goest;

and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him,

I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:1-6

Jesus is not only our Savior and Lord, but He is also our soon-coming King, and we can rejoice in that hope and assurance.  Take a few minutes today and look up and thank God for our living hope—the living water; and we remember to follow Daniel’s example not fretting over the lions but looking up to praise Jesus that He has paid the price, is our eternal hope.

“For my people have committed two evils;

they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters,

and hewed them out cisterns,

broken cisterns,

that can hold no water.”  Jeremiah 2:13

Whose Side???        A Word from THE WORD!!! #71

I have a simple but hard word to share this morning.  I am so grieved over the things I see around us–especially what I see and hear coming from the “churches”!  Much like Jeremiah, I grieve over the corruption, greed, lust, and just plain old SIN that is being accepted, promoted, and justified!  God hasn’t changed nor has HIS Word; but it seems that we have.

“Jesus Christ

the same yesterday,

and to day,

and for ever.”  Hebrews 13:8

We have presumed upon God’s mercy and grace and tried to make our sin a non-issue; but my friend SIN is the issue and no matter what the popular voices may say being born again makes us a new creation IN JESUS; it’s not a ‘get out of jail free’ card!

“The word of the LORD also came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man,

thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house,

which have eyes to see,

and see not;

they have ears to hear,

and hear not:

for they are a rebellious house.” Ezekiel 12:1-2

It seems that America (our whole world) has rebelled and denied the God who has been the One we have claimed to trust.  It appears to me that God has become not only a “byword”, but just a token that we name when we are in need, or tragedy or crises… we talk about God and prayer, but our lives reveal a total disregard for HIS ways, HIS Word and HIS SON, JESUS!  But there is a day of testing, and judgment coming–which side will you be on?  Paul gives us a warning that many neglect, but it is true, no matter what the movies, books and false prophets say!

“For the mystery of iniquity doth already work:

only he who now letteth will let,

until he be taken out of the way.

8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed,

whom the Lord shall consume

with the spirit of his mouth,

and shall destroy

with the brightness of his coming:

9 Even him, whose coming

is after the working of Satan

with all power

and signs

and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness

of unrighteousness

in them that perish;

because they received not

the love of the truth,

that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause

God shall send them strong delusion,

that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned

who believed not the truth,

but had pleasure

in unrighteousness.” 2 Thessalonians 2:7-12

And if I might add a note from Jeremiah (which I hope to dig into next week, as The Lord leads) who was grieved over the fall of Jerusalem and the captivity of his own people, because they rejected his word for some 40 years (and God’s for longer). While God is merciful and I pray for His continued grace and mercy toward us, His judgment is coming.  Will you be on HIS side?

“It is of the LORD’S mercies

that we are not consumed,

because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning:

great is thy faithfulness.

24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul;

therefore will I hope in him.

25 The LORD is good

unto them that wait for him,

to the soul that seeketh him.

26 It is good

that a man should both hope and quietly wait

for the salvation of the LORD.”  Lamentations 3:22-26

While God is merciful, judgment is coming, will you be among the deceived who reject HIS mercy, grace, and salvation in Jesus’ substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for SIN, or will you believe and be saved?

“(For he saith,

I have heard thee in a time accepted,

and in the day of salvation

have I succoured thee:

behold, now is the accepted time;

behold, now is the day of salvation.)”.  2 Corinthians 6:2

I pray that you will heed the voice of the Lord if HE is speaking to your heart and calling you unto Himself; that you won’t wait and try to come one day too late!

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20

A Word from THE WORD!!!  #5

Most people don’t know (and some are shocked when they find out! Ha ha) that I am a big Star Wars fan.  From the first one that my sister-in-law and I took the children to see at the drive-in some 40+ years ago.  But I must admit that I didn’t watch the “prequels” until just the last year or so, and while they are ok, they’re not the original.  I say all this to talk about the cutesy little meme that comes around every year at this time, “May the ‘fourth’ be with you!” (On May the 4th, in case you didn’t know) in reference to the “force be with you” from the Star Wars series of movies.  Well, for the last couple of years I have used a borrowed meme that has a picture of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace, and that “fourth man…. the Son of God” with them; I believe that “fourth man” was a preincarnate appearance of our Lord Jesus in the fire with them. And that my friends, is way, way more important than any movie!  Is Jesus with YOU?  I pray that HE is, and I would like to share a couple of passages of scripture with you this morning to remind us all that God has a plan that will never fail.  Jesus saves, delivers, accompanies His own, and HE IS coming again, and perhaps very soon!  Here’s some food for thought, encouragement, and hope!  Remember, we win!

“Trust in the LORD,

and do good;

so shalt thou dwell in the land,

and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the LORD;

and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the LORD;

trust also in him;

and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness

as the light,

and thy judgment

as the noonday.

7 Rest in the LORD,

and wait patiently for him:

fret not thyself

because of him

who prospereth in his way,

because of the man

who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8 Cease from anger,

and forsake wrath:

fret not thyself

in any wise to do evil.”   Psalm 37:3-8

And one of the greatest practical examples of trust, and confidence in God from Daniel chapter 3:

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,

answered and said to the king,

O Nebuchadnezzar,

we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.

17 If it be so,

our God

whom we serve

is able to deliver us

from the burning fiery furnace,

and he will deliver us

out of thine hand, O king.

18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king,

that we will not serve thy gods,

nor worship the golden image

which thou hast set up…

…. And these three men,

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,

fell down bound

into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied,

 and rose up in haste,

and spake, and said unto his counsellors,

Did not we cast three men bound

into the midst of the fire?

They answered and said unto the king,

True, O king.

25 He answered and said,

Lo, I see four men

loose,

walking in the midst of the fire,

and they have no hurt;

and the form of the fourth

is like the Son of God.”   Portions of Daniel 3:16-25

May this same Jesus be seen in us, in our living, our language and in our love, by the power, spirit, and grace of The Lord Jesus, who will never “leave you, or forsake you”, THE ONE who still changes hearts and lives—one at a time!!!  And in closing for today, one of the most beautiful passages regarding God’s eternal, total, omnipresent person, and presence with HIS own, is from one of David’s Psalms.

“Whither shall I go

from thy spirit?

or whither shall I flee

from thy presence?

8 If I ascend up into heaven,

thou art there:

if I make my bed in hell,

behold, thou art there.

9 If I take the wings of the morning,

and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10 Even there shall thy hand lead me,

and thy right hand shall hold me.

11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me;

even the night shall be light about me.   

12 Yea, the darkness hideth not

from thee;

but the night shineth as the day:

the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.”    Psalm 139:7-12
