Looking “UP”??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #104

I want to share a brief bit of commentary (my view of this precious Psalm) on one of my favorite Psalms.  I pray that God will speak to our hearts today and draw us near to HIM.  May we reject the lies of the enemy and stand in our LORD JESUS, who IS truth!

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills,

I love the mountains and we love to visit there, but I’ve always said that God couldn’t let me live there, because I’d never get anything done for looking at the view and drinking my tea/coffee!  Well, friends we can look at and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation, but that’s not where we need to have our confidence and hope.  I’ll take a little bit of liberty and make this next line a question (and I think it fits the context, but that’s my opinion after a lot of study.)!

from whence cometh my help. (?)

2 My help cometh from the LORD,

The question isn’t help–the question is the ‘source’!  Just like our faith, it’s not how strong we are but the strength of the object of our faith.  When God is the object of our faith, we can stand in the same assurance that the Psalmist shares, for our God IS The One:

which made heaven and earth.

Like many of the things that we purchase and use in our homes and vehicles, if something goes wrong, we check the “manufacturers” manual.  Well, guess where our ‘faith manual’ is?  Right there in your Bible, and the author IS our God, and:

3 He will not suffer thy foot

to be moved:

he that keepeth thee

will not slumber.

 Our faithful God, is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and HE is our God too; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and our confidence can rest assuredly in HIM, for:

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel

shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD is

thy keeper:

the LORD is

thy shade upon thy right hand.

6 The sun shall not smite thee by day,

nor the moon by night.

God is watching over our circumstances, both external things around us, as well as the internal conflicts that we deal with on a daily basis.  Our God is ever faithful in every way!

7 The LORD shall preserve thee

from all evil:

he shall preserve

 thy soul.

8 The LORD shall preserve

thy going out

and thy coming in

from this time forth,

and even for evermore.”  Psalm 121:1-8

Look to the mountains, or the waters, or the plains and enjoy the creative beauty of our Lord, but don’t forget that they are not your hope, but ever remember that “My help cometh from the LORD”, HE IS GOD!  Father God, Jesus Christ HIS SON, and The Holy Spirit, who is our ever-present comforter and guide.Who

Bible Ballistics: BBs #688     There’s Still Time???

 

I believe in “putting on” the “armor of God”!  I don’t think it was an attempt at a frivolous metaphor by Paul, but an urgent reminder that we recognize that spiritual warfare is real.  And as we put on that armor, there is a part of that Ephesians 6 passage that I simply want to remind us of again, because it is imperative that we, God’s children—followers of Jesus Christ The Lord— “withstand in the evil day”!  I want to share a few scripture passages with you and ask that you “think on these things” and do your civic duty, exercising good stewardship of our freedoms!

“For though we walk in the flesh,

we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare

are not carnal,

but mighty

through God

to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5 Casting down imaginations,

and every high thing

that exalteth itself

against the knowledge of God,

and bringing into captivity

every thought

to the obedience of Christ;”  2 Corinthians 10:3-5

And a part of Daniel’s prayer in Daniel chapter 9:

“O my God,

incline thine ear,

and hear;

open thine eyes,

and behold our desolations,

and the city which is called by thy name:

for we do not present our supplications

before thee

for our righteousnesses,

but for thy great mercies.

19 O Lord, hear;

O Lord, forgive;

O Lord, hearken and do;

defer not,

for thine own sake,

O my God:

for thy city

and thy people

are called by thy name.”  Daniel 9:18-19

May God hear our prayer (and may HIS people be faithful to be praying—and not depending on our own wisdom!) and guide us in the right way!

“Search me, O God,

and know my heart:

try me,

and know my thoughts:

24 And see if there be any wicked way

in me,

and lead me

in the way everlasting.”  Psalm 139:23-24

Even as Paul gave us instruction to “put on the whole armour of God”, there is a part that we often forget, and I challenge you to read through Ephesians 6:10-19 noting verse 18, regarding our attitude as we “suit up”!

“Praying always

with all prayer and supplication

in the Spirit,

and watching thereunto

with all perseverance and supplication

for all saints;”  Ephesians 6:18. Amen!

Bible Ballistics: BBs #576      Whose Battles Are You Fighting???

 

I have a very brief word to share this morning as the sun pops over the horizon.  I can’t help but thank God that HE IS my strength and my redeemer, and we just need to keep our eyes on the prize—Jesus!  And while heaven is my home, I still have to live this life as long as God gives me breath; maybe you need a word of encouragement along with me this morning—let’s dig in.

“The LORD is my light

and my salvation;

whom shall I fear?

the LORD is the strength

of my life;

of whom shall I be afraid?”  Psalm 27:1

No one!  We can walk in confidence and overcome the fears that confront me/you; and while my fears will be different from your fears, we can look up to The One who has us in His hand; and as believers in Jesus, we have been given His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth.

“Howbeit when he,

the Spirit of truth,

is come,

he will guide you

into all truth:

for he shall not speak of himself;

but whatsoever he shall hear,

that shall he speak:

and he will shew you

things to come.

14 He shall glorify me:

for he shall receive of mine,

and shall shew it unto you.”    John 16:13-14

And I am so thankful that Paul reminded his son-in-the-ministry of this very thing.  So, friends, may we remember that we are not alone, and as King Solomon wrote “there is no new thing under the sun” (See Ecclesiastes 1:9)!

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;

but of power,

and of love,

and of a sound mind.”  2 Timothy 1:7

I find it interesting that the word for “sound mind” here, is a word that means “right thinking”, and ‘right thinking’ means thinking God’s thoughts, and remembering that HE has it all in His hand!

“And all Judah stood before the LORD,

with their little ones,

their wives,

and their children.

14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah,

a Levite of the sons of Asaph,

came the Spirit of the LORD

in the midst of the congregation;

15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah,

and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem,

and thou king Jehoshaphat,

Thus saith the LORD unto you,

Be not afraid

nor dismayed by reason

of this great multitude;

for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”    2 Chronicles 20:13-15

Take some time today and read this whole episode in the life of Jehoshaphat, it will encourage your soul, no matter what trials or battles you may be facing; for remember God has told us as well, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (See Hebrews 13:5-6)!  May you have a blessed day—look up—our God reigns!

Bible Ballistics: BBs #568   HE IS FAITHFUL!!!

 

Just a short word this morning to wish those in the USA a happy 4thof July—Independence Day.  And to remind us all that in Jesus Christ we have all that we need to “depend” upon!  We are no longer “in”dependent—but totally dependent upon Jesus.  When discouragement, disappointment or disillusionment comes (whether it be with the government, the people around us, the circumstances that come our way, or even those that we love the most) we can be assured that our God reigns!

“And I heard as it were

the voice of a great multitude,

and as the voice of many waters,

and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying,

Alleluia:

for the Lord God omnipotent

reigneth.”  Revelation 19:6

I take great comfort and confidence in the faithfulness of The Lord God Almighty, who reigns over all—and that simply means ALL!!!  No more no less—and that’s enough for me.  I will not stay down—but I will fix my eyes on Jesus NOT the lions!

“Let your conversation be without covetousness;

and be content with such things as ye have:

 for he hath said,

I will never leave thee,

 nor forsake thee.

6 So that we may boldly say,

The Lord is my helper,

and I will not fear

what man shall do unto me.”   Hebrews 13:5-6

I pray that you will look up and not around! For we can often become discouraged by the actions, choices and reactions of others; but remember GOD still reigns.  He has never said ‘oops’; and HE loves you with an everlasting love.  Don’t let the enemy distract you from the truth!  Put on your armor, press on and praise The Lord God in all things. (See Ephesians 6:10-19)

“For this is the love of God,

that we keep his commandments:

and his commandments are not grievous.

4 For whatsoever is born of God

overcometh the world:

and this is the victory

that overcometh the world,

even our faith.

5 Who is he that

 overcometh the world,

but he that believeth

that Jesus is the Son of God?”    1 John 5:3-5

And I close with the words of Paul:

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,

and the love of God,

and the communion of the Holy Ghost,

be with you all. Amen….”    2 Corinthians 13:14a

Bible Ballistics: BBs #538   When I’m Down, I Look UP!!!

 

It’s Friday morning and I would just like to share a few passages from God’s Word to lift our eyes upward.  It’s so easy to start looking around at the “lions” instead of looking up to the “Lord”; but let’s take a few moments to refocus upward right now!

“And when these things begin to come to pass,

then look up,

and lift up your heads;

for your redemption

draweth nigh.”  Luke 21:28

Our Lord is a soon-coming King, and we who belong to Him always have hope IN Him, for He is ever our refuge.

“The name of the LORD

is a strong tower:

the righteous runneth into it,

and is safe.”  Proverbs 18:10

I pray that whatever you may be facing today, you will look up and run into God’s strong tower.  Surround yourself with uplifting praise music, spend time in God’s Word, make time to get alone with God in prayer—He’s ever there to hear our hearts cry!  We can hold on to HIS strong hand—that “Nail Pierced Hand” –that bled for our redemption! Praise His name!!!

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest,

that is passed into the heavens,

Jesus the Son of God,

let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest

which cannot be touched

with the feeling of our infirmities;

but was in all points tempted

like as we are,

yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come

boldly

unto the throne of grace,

that we may obtain mercy,

and find grace to help

in time of need.”   Hebrews 4:14-16

We have a loving Lord who calls us to come to Him; and He is always ready to direct our steps and guide us to “find grace to help in time of need”! Amen!

And one of my favorite reminders of how to walk right before God and the world:

“Trust in the LORD

with all thine heart;

and lean not

unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways

acknowledge him,

and he shall direct thy paths.

7 Be not wise

in thine own eyes:

fear the LORD,

and depart from evil.

8 It shall be health to thy navel,

and marrow to thy bones.”    Proverbs 3:5-8
