Lift Up Your Eyes???    A Word from THE WORD!!! #252

“And there shall be signs

in the sun,

and in the moon,

and in the stars;

and upon the earth

distress of nations,

with perplexity;

the sea and the waves roaring;

26 Men’s hearts

failing them for fear,

and for looking after those things

which are coming on the earth:

 for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming

in a cloud

with power

and great glory.

28 And when these things begin to come to pass,

then look up,

and lift up your heads;

for your redemption draweth nigh.”  Luke 21:25-28

I want to speak to the little words in this passage, rather than the nature of the prophecy; Jesus said that “there shall be signs”, and notice that this is plural—not just one but multiple signs—sadly multiple signs that most will not heed as from Jesus!  If we took time to go back and look at Matthew 7, we’d remember that Jesus referred to the “many” and the “few” in regard to finding and walking on the “narrow way”; a message much needed today, especially to remind God’s own that we are NOT in the majority!  From Genesis to Revelation, there is always a remnant of God’s own in this world, but they have seldom been in the lead!  But we are called to take note.  Jesus was speaking to His closest followers, yet even they doubted when He was put in the grave!  But, three days later they believed, and some 40+ days later they received the Holy Spirit to speak, preach and display the power of heavenly fire!

But to get back to our passage above, notice that Jesus said that “Men’s hearts” would be failing them because they will be looking at the “signs” and not the Savior!  He also implies that the signs will go on for some time, culminating in His return.

Then—and most importantly to we who belong to Jesus—Jesus told His followers that when:

“these things begin to come to pass,

then look up,

and lift up your heads;

for your redemption draweth nigh…”!

Note that Jesus told us that when we see these thing “begin to come to pass” we aren’t to let our hearts fail (not over the weather, the politics, or the world crises, nor any earthly events) but we are clearly told what to do:

look up,       

lift up your heads;

And He tells us why we are to look up and lift up our heads, not let our hearts or our heads droop down over the events taking place but we can confidently look up because:

your redemption draweth nigh!

So, don’t fret over the events of the times, but rather take The Word of God and stand fast in “the evil day”!  Remember, Jesus has promised victory, and He will come, rule, judge and reign as God of all!!!  Get in The Word:

“And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude,

and as the voice of many waters,

and as the voice of mighty thunderings,

saying,Alleluia:

for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.”  Revelation 19:6

Amen and Amen!!!

Let Go And Reach Up???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #243

“Not as though I had already attained,

either were already perfect:

but I follow after,

if that I may apprehend that

for which also I am apprehended

of Christ Jesus.

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended:

but this one thing I do,

forgetting those things which are behind,

and reaching forth unto those things

which are before,

14 I press toward the mark

for the prize

of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

15 Let us therefore,

as many as be perfect, (mature)

be thus minded:

and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded,

God shall reveal even this unto you.”   Philippians 3:12-15

Sometimes life gets to us, and our past failures try to drag us down, so Paul gives us a message of hope and clear instruction.  We are to have a different focus than the world, or what Satan is trying to throw in your face; we can forget that which we have taken to Jesus in confession and repentance, for it is forgiven and buried in the deepest sea, never to be remembered.  There is a favorite Old Testament passage and a New Testament one that assures us of God’s forgiveness and restoration to those who will face their sin, admit it to God and receive His pardon and healing from our sin.  And when God forgives, HE forgets.

“Who is a God like unto thee,

that pardoneth iniquity,

and passeth by the transgression

of the remnant of his heritage?

he retaineth not his anger for ever,

because he delighteth in mercy.

19 He will turn again,

he will have compassion upon us;

he will subdue our iniquities;

and thou wilt cast all their sins

into the depths of the sea” Micah 7:18-19

What’s holding you back?  What sin does Satan keep throwing in your face?  If you belong to Jesus my friend, you can have the total forgiveness of God, as well as healing, and cleansing restoration.  Tell the Devil to buzz off!!  You aren’t his after you’ve been born again; so stop walking in the dark and draw near to The Light of the world, Jesus our Lord and Savior.  The Apostle John says it better than I can!  (See Ephesians 2:1-10.)

“And these things write we unto you,

that your joy may be full.

5 This then is the message

which we have heard of him,

and declare unto you,

that God is light,

and in him is no darkness at all.

6 If we say that we have fellowship with him,

and walk in darkness, we lie,

and do not the truth:

7 But if we walk in the light,

as he is in the light,

we have fellowship one with another,

and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son

cleanseth us from all sin

8 If we say that we have no sin,

we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9 If we confess our sins,

he is faithful and just

to forgive us our sins,

and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

10 If we say that we have not sinned,

we make him a liar,

and his word is not in us.”  1 John 1:4-10

One of the greatest reminders that comes to my heart and mind often in those times of doubt, confusion and the attacks of the enemy, is to simply remember, the past is just that, passed!  Let it go and look up to The One who died that we might have “life and have it more abundantly”—forgiven, cleansed and beautifully useable!

“Beloved, believe not every spirit,

but try the spirits

whether they are of God:

because many false prophets

are gone out into the world.

 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God:

Every spirit that confesseth

that Jesus Christ

is come in the flesh

is of God:

3 And every spirit that confesseth not

that Jesus Christ

is come in the flesh

is not of God:

and this is that spirit of antichrist,

whereof ye have heard

that it should come;

and even now already

is it in the world

Ye are of God, little children,

and have overcome them:

because greater is he that is in you,

than he that is in the world.”  1 John 4:1-4

Forget the past…Remember what Jesus has done…Press on!!

Whose Day Is It??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #128

“I will praise thee:

for thou hast heard me,

and art become my salvation.

22 The stone which the builders refused

is become the head stone of the corner.

23 This is the LORD’S doing;

it is marvellous in our eyes.

24 This is the day

which the LORD hath made;

we will rejoice

and be glad in it.”  Psalm 118:21-243

Most are familiar with verse 24 of this Psalm, for this IS the DAY that God has made, and HE has given it to us to use to praise HIM, to use to HIS glory, but also to remember all that HE has done for us IN JESUS!   I don’t know that I’ve ever read these verses with this particular context in mind, but it is amazing how God speaks to us in unique ways, and at unexpected times and places, and I am so glad that HE does!  For as I sit here writing this article, I just praise HIM so much for this day–for HIS sweet presence, and HIS love, grace and mercy showered down on me/us!

We’ve been traveling and had some time with friends and family but had to come home a bit earlier than we had planned, but you see, God’s plans are always the ones that we want–even the seemingly ‘untimely’ things!  We had a safe trip but a longer than expected drive, and yet Jesus led our way, and we praise HIM for each day; for you see, it’s all about the love of Jesus which leads and directs our steps, and as we pursue HIM in all of our ways, ever remembering the “Lamb of God who takesth away the sin of the world”!  Yet, we also want to remember and tie together the references to Jesus, who was not only “The Lamb of God”, but HE is also the “stone which the builders refused”!  This precious Lamb came to be the “cornerstone” of our salvation–HE came to die for you and me!

But we don’t want to miss the reference to this being GOD’S PLAN!  I have often had people ask me about the New Testament and how it is the picture of God’s plan “B” since plan “A”, the law, had failed; to which I almost cry out loud…”no, no, no”!  God has never had a plan “B”, HIS plan has always been Jesus–Calvary–and praise HIS name, the Resurrection of JESUS Christ my Lord!!  Oh, glory, glory, glory!  Ain’t God good?  Yes, HE is! This is what the Psalmist is proclaiming–don’t miss it:

“This is the LORD’S doing;

it is marvellous in our eyes”!

The Apostles confirmed this truth as they proclaimed the Gospel on the Day of Pentecost.  Please don’t miss the beauty that the Psalmist was proclaiming all those hundreds of years before it took place.  Not an accident, or coincidence, or even ‘fate’–no, my friends, it was the “determinate counsel…of God” that planned the amazing work of salvation for you and me!!!  The plan that cost God His Son pouring out HIS precious blood on a cruel Roman cross!  Love ran red down through time for you and me–to TODAY!!!

“Ye men of Israel, hear these words;

Jesus of Nazareth,

a man approved of God among you

by miracles

and wonders

and signs,

which God did by him

in the midst of you,

as ye yourselves also know:

23 Him,

being delivered

by the determinate counsel

and foreknowledge

of God,

ye have taken,

and by wicked hands have crucified

and slain:

24 Whom God hath raised up,

having loosed the pains of death:

because it was not possible

that he should be holden of it.”  Acts 2:22-24                         (And it will bless your heart to read through this entire chapter!)

I pray that you will heed the call of God on your heart!  Don’t miss the “cornerstone” by disregard or neglect, HE came to save “whosoever believeth on HIM”; not with just lip service but true repentance from my sin/your sin, and faith/trust in Jesus’ substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for that sin!  So, in closing, just a few scriptures that paint a wonderful picture of what our Redeemer did for us through HIS precious blood!

“And from Jesus Christ,

who is the faithful witness,

and the first begotten of the dead,

and the prince of the kings of the earth.

Unto him that loved us,

and washed us from our sins

in his own blood,” Revelation 1:5

“Elect according to the foreknowledge

of God the Father,

through sanctification of the Spirit,

unto obedience

and sprinkling of the blood

of Jesus Christ:

Grace unto you,

and peace, be multiplied.

3 Blessed be the God and Father

of our Lord Jesus Christ,

which according to his abundant mercy

hath begotten us again

unto a lively hope

by the resurrection of Jesus Christ

from the dead,

4 To an inheritance incorruptible,

and undefiled,

and that fadeth not away,

reserved in heaven

for you,” 1 Peter 1:2-4

“But if we walk in the light,

as he is in the light,

we have fellowship one with another,

and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son

cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7

May we rejoice in each “today” that God grants you and me; may we bring joy to others, glory to God, and sing His praises for “THIS DAY” that HE has made for us!  I pray that you find HIS joy and peace sufficient for your every need.  He has NEVER let me down, even though I have failed HIM again and again….  I thank HIM for His faithfulness no matter the circumstances.

“Let your conversation be without covetousness;

and be content with such things as ye have:

for he hath said,

I will never leave thee,

nor forsake thee.

6 So that we may boldly say,

The Lord is my helper,

and I will not fear

what man shall do unto me.”  Hebrews 13:5-6

Trust HIM–HE made the day–and HE MADE YOU!!!  And as a preacher friend of mine says, “God never says, “OOOPS”!

It’s HIS Time, Not Mine???  A Word from THE WORD!!!  #21

I have another brief word this morning—one that is precious to my life—my heart!  In fact, I have a painting in my home that has this very sentiment, and it is so true, and brings confidence, comfort, and assurance to my heart.  Assurance that GOD IS in control—that GOD IS still GOD—that GOD IS still good—and that I still love and trust HIM, no matter what my eyes may see, my ears may hear, or my heart may momentarily “feel”!  It’s those times when heartache, tears, confusion, and doubt assail our lives that we absolutely must stand—must camp—on what we KNOW to be true about our GOD, NOT what we “feel”!

We live in a culture that runs on ‘feelings’, ‘desires’, and ‘instant’ everything; from orange juice to happiness (so called)!  But to have the joy and confidence that only God can give, and HIS “peace that passeth all understanding” will get us through every issue that confronts us in this life.  Remember, We Win!

“I have seen the travail, which God hath given

to the sons of men

to be exercised in it.

11 He hath made every thing beautiful

in his time……”  Ecclesiastes 3:10-11a

Nehemiah’s word of encouragement to the people of Jerusalem when their challenge had been provided by The Lord God Almighty, is the same word that you and I can camp on today.

“Then he said unto them,

Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet,

and send portions unto them

for whom nothing is prepared:

for this day is holy unto our Lord:

neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD

is your strength.”  Nehemiah 8:10

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 17 No. 19.  My Strength Isn’t My Own!

 

“The LORD is my strength

and my shield;

my heart trusted in him,

and I am helped:

therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth;

and with my song will I praise him.”   Psalm 28:7

We have gone through some extreme changes in the last six weeks, and I have to admit, my body is totally weary and tired, but by God’s grace, strength, and power I have been able to do the things that needed doing.  We are in a new season, time, and place in our lives and yet our God is where HE has always been—in total, sovereign control, and I can’t tell you how much comfort, assurance, and confidence this gives to my heart.  It is my sustenance and I praise God for it.  I want to simply share a few passages of scripture to lift our hearts heavenward this morning.  The first may seem a little out of place but I hope you will consider the import of what it says—in fact I believe it is the foundational premise of the segment it begins.

“Finally, my brethren,

be strong in the Lord,

and in the power

of his might.”  Ephesians 6:10

This beginning of the “armor of God” passage is often skipped as we jump into the “important” list of the armor, but have you considered the import of this introductory statement that Paul makes?  As Jesus said in John 15, without HIM and HIS power, we “can do nothing”!  Whose strength are you relying on?

“I am the true vine,

and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me

that beareth not fruit

he taketh away:

and every branch

that beareth fruit,

he purgeth it,

that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean

through the word which I have spoken

unto you.

4 Abide in me,

and I in you.

As the branch cannot bear fruit

of itself,

except it abide in the vine;

no more can ye,

except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine,

ye are the branches:

He that abideth in me,

and I in him,

the same bringeth forth much fruit:

for without me

ye can do nothing.”  John 15:1-5

And in closing this brief post with you today, I pray that you will look up and not depend on your own “grit” and “power”, but on The Lord God Almighty whom I know reigns.  Is HE reigning in you?
