Bible Ballistics: BBs #563    Greater Than Your Need???

“Ye are of God, little children,

and have overcome them:

because greater is he

that is in you,

than he

that is in the world.”  1 John 4:4

I have a few things to share that I pray will encourage your walk with Jesus today.  I know some of you are facing dire circumstances, carrying heavy loads, lifting the weight of the world (or it sure seems that way!), enduring seemingly unending trials—yet we have a hope! One of my favorite phrases in the scripture is, “but God”!  Oh how grateful I am that God has it; no matter the difficulties I may face, or how my ‘feelings’ seem to waver, no matter the fear, or anxiety, or tears that often flood my soul–God is my safe place, my strong tower, and I’m so glad! May these verses encourage you to “look up”!  God’s got this.

“The name of the LORD

is a strong tower:

the righteous runneth into it,

and is safe.”  Proverbs 18:10

Jesus calls us to take His “yoke” upon us, simply referring to a harness that joins two animals together to pull the load with the strength of two sharing a load.  Jesus wants to share your load.

“Come unto me,

all ye that labour

and are heavy laden,

and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you,

and learn of me;

for I am meek and lowly in heart:

and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy,

and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus is a Savior who understands our every trial and promises to walk with us all the way.  I’d like to close with a few passages that I pray will speak to your heart today, whatever your burden is.  For:

              God is bigger than your problem—

              God is stronger than your heavy burden—

              God is greater than any load that you carry—

                     And HE has promised to ever walk with YOU!

“Let your conversation be

without covetousness;

and be content

with such things as ye have:

for he hath said,

I will never leave thee,

nor forsake thee.

6 So that we may boldly say,

The Lord is my helper,

and I will not fear

what man shall do unto me.”   Hebrews 13:5-6

“And when these things begin to come to pass,

then look up,

and lift up your heads;

for your redemption draweth nigh.”   Luke 21:28

“Wherefore he is able also to save them

to the uttermost

that come unto God

by him, seeing he ever liveth

to make intercession for them.”   Hebrews 7:25

Amen and Amen!

Bible Ballistics: BBs #552     Real Pilgrims???

No, I didn’t time warp to Thanksgiving, and it’s kind of sad that we have relegated that meaningful word to a once-a-year reference.  I think it has great spiritual import, and I’d like to share a few thoughts about it with you today.

I was privileged to hear a young woman speak recently at a ladies’ gathering, and her testimony was gripping, and the point of the whole thing was that God brings light into the darkness—no matter what the circumstances may be.  We can truly trust our God to exchange our ashes for beauty.

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me;

because the LORD hath anointed me

to preach good tidings

unto the meek;

 he hath sent me

to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim liberty to the captives,

and the opening of the prison

to them that are bound;

2 To proclaim

the acceptable year

of the LORD,

and the day of vengeance

of our God;

to comfort all that mourn;

3 To appoint unto them that mourn

in Zion,

to give unto them

beauty

for ashes,

the oil of joy

for mourning,

the garment of praise

for the spirit of heaviness;

that they might be called

trees of righteousness,

the planting of the LORD,

that he might be glorified.”   Isaiah 61:1-3

I love that phrase, “to give unto them beauty for ashes”! It is so picturesque, for I think most of us have faced a pile of ashes lying in front of us (often of our own making), yet God was speaking to our hearts to remind us to bring it to Jesus!

“Come unto me,

all ye that labour

and are heavy laden,

and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you,

and learn of me;

for I am meek and lowly in heart:

and ye shall find rest

unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy,

and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

As this precious young woman shared her story, she was so open and transparent about her struggle, and the sufficiency of The Lord God Almighty to bring her through, and help her see that ashes aren’t necessarily the end—or the ruination of our “picture”–for as she spoke she was drawing a picture that beautifully depicted the message that she shared!  And while she shared different scriptures than I’m sharing with you—the message was the same—our God is able!  Our God loves us!  Our God will provide!  Maybe not in the way we expect, or on our timetable, but HE will provide for His own!

What does this have to do with “Pilgrims”?  Well, let me tell you!  We are continually called in scripture to be aware of the pitfalls of this world—for it is alluring, and as scripture says, there is pleasure “in sin, for a season”, but there is a price tag for our choices.  As believers in Jesus, we are called to walk as “pilgrims” in this world, knowing our home and our reward is not “here”!  I pray that these verses will help us check our focus, and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, no matter how big our pile of ashes may seem!

“These all died in faith,

not having received the promises,

but having seen them afar off,

and were persuaded of them,

and embraced them,

and confessed

that they were strangers

and pilgrims on the earth.

14 For they that say such things

declare plainly

that they seek a country.

15 And truly, if they had been mindful

of that country from whence they came out,

they might have had opportunity

to have returned.

16 But now they desire

a better country,

that is, an heavenly:

wherefore God is not ashamed

to be called their God:

for he hath prepared for them a city.”   Hebrews 11:13-16

As an old song says, “this world is not my home” (By Albert E. Brumley), even as Peter calls us to pay attention!

“Dearly beloved,

I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims,

abstain from fleshly lusts,

which war against the soul;” 1 Peter 2:11

Amen and Amen—Press on Pilgrim!

God Is Still God!!! Bible Ballistics: BBs #546

Bow before the KING, God is still God, Isaiah 6:1-5, Jesus still saves, Matthew 11:28-30, Revelation 3:20, Salvation, Salvation In Jesus

Bible Ballistics: BBs #546       God Is Still God!!!

“In the year that king Uzziah died

I saw also the Lord

sitting upon a throne,

high and lifted up,

and his train filled the temple.

2 Above it stood the seraphims:

each one had six wings;

with twain he covered his face,

and with twain he covered his feet,

and with twain he did fly.

3 And one cried unto another, and said,

Holy, holy, holy,

 is the LORD of hosts:

the whole earth is full of his glory.

4 And the posts of the door moved

at the voice of him that cried,

and the house was filled with smoke.

5 Then said I,

Woe is me!

for I am undone;

because

I am a man of unclean lips,

and I dwell in the midst of

a people of unclean lips:

for mine eyes have seen the King,

the LORD of hosts.”  Isaiah 6:1-5

 Isaiah had a life-changing encounter with God—and we can have the same when we come to Jesus.  Isaiah saw God in His holiness, which brought him to see himself in his sinful state!  And that’s what we each must do—come to see God for who He is—GOD—and to see ourselves as sinners with no recourse to fix our sin problem.  And SIN is the problem—you/I have it, you/I can’t fix it, but Jesus can and will if we will but humble ourselves before Him as Isaiah did.  Isaiah saw God as:

 “The Lord—                  High and lifted up—

  Holy, Holy, Holy—

  The Lord of hosts—   Full of glory—

  The KING—                The LORD of hosts–”!

Amen and amen!  And as Isaiah had his sin dealt with by a burning coal, Jesus dealt with sin at Calvary for all who will come to Him—the promise that Isaiah looked for, is the One we look back to.  As He invited people then, He is still inviting people to Himself today! (He who has ‘eyes like fire’, see Isaiah 6:6-9 and Rev. 1:13-15).

“Come unto me,

all ye that labour

 and are heavy laden,

and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you,

and learn of me;

for I am meek

and lowly in heart:

and ye shall find rest

unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy,

and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus will give “rest unto your souls”—for HE is still God, HE is the Sacrifice for sin, The Redeemer of my/your soul.  Do you hear a knock at your heart’s door?  He’s waiting!

“Behold, I stand at the door,

and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20
