A Christmas Fortnight:Day 2 A Word From THE WORD! #414

I remember this past January we saw snow as we were visiting South Mississippi, and it was a treat to watch the sun move up on the horizon over the snow-covered ground, It reminds me of Jesus whose unlikely arrival was much like snow in the south, pure white covering the ground!

This child born in a barn, instead of a palace—

placed in a manger bed instead of an elegant cradle—

greeted by shepherds rather than statesmen and kings-

surrounded by the lowing and bleating of animals rather than orchestral masterpieces.

The one worthy of praise,

“From the rising of the sun

unto the going down of the same

the Lord’s name is to be praised.”  Psalm 113:3

Our “Sun” rising in the sky, which Isaiah 60:1-3 uses to paint a picture beautifully.  This rising “SUN” is Jesus,

“Arise, shine;

for thy light is come,                   

and the glory of the Lord

is risen upon thee.

2 For,

behold, the darkness

shall cover the earth,

and gross darkness

the people:

but the Lord shall arise upon thee,

and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light,

and kings to the brightness of thy rising.”

May Isaiah’s words challenge each of us

 to “Arise”,

to “Shine” and

to be the reflection of this “LIGHT”

whom God sent into our world so long ago–the babe born to die for you and me, “for he shall save his people from their sin…”.  Matthew 1:21b

Let His light, that dwells within those who belong to Him, Shine in us as we go about today.

Don’t just keep ‘Christ’ in Christmas but let the ‘Christ’ in you be seen

in all you do,

every where,

every day.

If you’re HIS act like it………….that’s Merry ‘Christ’mas.

A Friday Tidbit!!! Shine!!!        A Word from THE WORD!!! #344

Just a note this morning to share The Word with you as you go through this Friday and head into your weekend.  May you go with Jesus every step of the way.  He promised He would, and we can count on that promise.  Paul gives us some great advice; may you ponder it today and rejoice in Jesus, share His love, truth and peace as you go.  It won’t always be easy, but people will begin to notice that you have a light most don’t have!

“Wherefore, my beloved,

as ye have always obeyed,

not as in my presence only,

but now much more in my absence,

work out your own salvation

with fear and trembling.

13 For it is God which worketh in you

both to will

and to do

of his good pleasure.

14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

15 That ye may be blameless and harmless,

the sons of God,

without rebuke,

 in the midst

of a crooked and perverse nation,

among whom ye shine

as lights in the world;”                Philippians 2:12-15

Shine my friends—shine for Jesus!  Have a blessed day! (And just FYI Paul isn’t saying work “for” your salvation, but to let it be worked “out” through your daily obedience and faithfulness to Jesus at work, at play each day!)

A Grateful Life??? Really???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #153

 

Gratitude is an attitude, but it’s so much more and I just want to share a few thoughts in this regard.

“Serve the LORD

with gladness:

come before his presence

with singing.

3 Know ye that the LORD he is God:

it is he that hath made us,

and not we ourselves;

we are his people,

and the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter into his gates

with thanksgiving,

and into his courts

with praise:

be thankful unto him,

and bless his name.

5 For the LORD is good;

his mercy is everlasting;

and his truth endureth

to all generations.”  Psalm 100:2-5

The Psalmist paints an amazing picture here of our relationship to God—and that is the root of gratitude; so let’s peruse the things that make for a grateful heart, and a productive life lived for God’s glory and our ultimate good.

We are to:

       Serve God—with gladness not grudgingly—

       Seek HIS presence—with singing not selfish squawking-

       Remember—God IS GOD, HE made us—we didn’t do it–

       BE HIS people/HIS sheep—Stop butting heads—

       Come before HIM—with grateful praise—

       Show our gratitude with words of blessing—not vain ones!

When we practice being in HIS presence and spending time with our LORD, we can learn so much about gratitude, grace, love, and humility!  Our God is a good, good God, but how will the world come to know that when we won’t live like it!  We moan and complain; we let the glitter of the world blind us to HIS truth; we choose the world over our God, which breed the worst kind of discontent!  All this when we serve the most amazing, loving, merciful and truthful God—HE loves us so much that HE sent JESUS to be our Savior and Redeemer.  Just spend some time thinking about the price that Jesus paid for us and coming into God’s presence “with thanksgiving”!  I truly believe that gratitude breeds confident faith in the God we claim to follow.  May James’ words help us understand that our God IS totally trustworthy, and we can thank HIM in all things—knowing that we can ask questions, and God won’t get mad, but HE will lead us into HIS truth, if we can but wait on the Lord! (See Psalm 37:3-8)

“My brethren,

count it all joy

when ye fall into divers temptations;

3 Knowing this,

that the trying of your faith

worketh patience.

4 But let patience have her perfect work,

that ye may be perfect (complete/mature)

and entire,

wanting nothing. (lacking nothing)

5 If any of you lack wisdom,

let him ask of God,

that giveth to all men liberally,

and upbraideth not;

and it shall be given him.”  James 1:2-5

May we live ‘gratefully’ before a world of greed!  They need to see JESUS IN US!
