The Time Between??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #203

Isaiah said it best:

“He is despised

and rejected of men;

a man of sorrows,

and acquainted with grief:

and we hid as it were our faces

from him;

he was despised,

and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he hath borne

our griefs,

and carried

our sorrows:

yet we did esteem him stricken,

smitten of God,

and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded

for our transgressions,

he was bruised

for our iniquities:

 the chastisement

of our peace was upon him;

and with his stripes

we are healed.

6 All we like sheep

have gone astray;

we have turned every one

to his own way;

and the LORD hath laid on him

the iniquity of us all.”  Isaiah 53:3-6

Isaiah prophesying of the coming Messiah, painted a picture of sin and its penalty on “All we”, and God had already appointed a Redeemer, a Lamb of God, a perfect sacrifice to atone (Pay for) for all our sin.  We are all “sin sick” and that is the disease that we all need to be healed from.  It’s why God says that “with his stripes we are healed”; for without Jesus’ substitutionary, atoning sacrifice of Himself– the beating, the nails, the rejection of men, the spitting, the cursing, the shame, the shedding of HIS own blood—we would have no hope, no cure for this disease of SIN!  But “the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all”. Thank you, Jesus, for dying for me.

But I want us to think about something else; as it’s Saturday and the disciples and followers of Jesus are full of grief; this One whom they believed was the Messiah, The Deliverer, The Chosen One, is now dead!  Hope was seemingly gone.  Have you ever gone through that “Time Between”?  The time between hopeless fear, and the joy of The Lord?  The time between loss and renewal?  The time between life-absorbing grief and renewed hope and peace and restoration from the hand of The Lord?  Most of us have suffered that grief of sudden, unexpected loss, and without Jesus, I can assure you, I couldn’t have gotten through mine!  But by the grace of God, and the saving power of The Blood of “The Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world” my heart was sustained in many times of sorrow and loss, but especially the murder and loss of my precious daughter.  BUT GOD!  Oh, my friends, the “BUT GOD”s of my life are innumerable, yet I have found Him faithful.

Think of the followers of Jesus, full of grief, sorrow, and unexpected horror; what could save them now.  They are hiding from the leaders who killed Jesus—fearing they might be next.  Even though Jesus had tried to prepare them, how could our feeble human minds comprehend His resurrection.  How about you?  When was the last time you went to a funeral, or sat by a loved one who died in your presence, that you expected them to arise from the grave?  Not me!  The disciples couldn’t comprehend what The Master wanted them to see—HE would arise.  Let’s see how scripture describes it from two who were walking to Emmaus just after the news came of the resurrection.  And while I know this is a lengthy passage, I think if more worthy of your time than my feeble words.  These were living the “time in between”!  How about you?  Have you met The Master?  He’s alive and well and loves you too!  I pray that you will ponder this passage and if you know Jesus, rejoice in it.  If you don’t know Jesus, I pray that you will call upon Him today—He is still in the life-changing business.  He saved me and has done wondrous things to make me who I am today, and He will do the same for you.

“And, behold, two of them went that same day

to a village called Emmaus,

which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.

14 And they talked together

of all these things which had happened.

15 And it came to pass, that,

while they communed together and reasoned,

Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

16 But their eyes were holden

 that they should not know him.

17 And he said unto them,

What manner of communications

are these that ye have one to another,

as ye walk,

and are sad?

18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas,

answering said unto him,

Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem,

and hast not known the things

which are come to pass there in these days?

19 And he said unto them,

What things?

And they said unto him,

Concerning Jesus of Nazareth,

which was a prophet

mighty in deed and word before God

and all the people:

20 And how the chief priests

and our rulers

delivered him to be condemned to death,

and have crucified him.

21 But we trusted that it had been he

which should have redeemed Israel:

and beside all this,

to day is the third day

since these things were done.

22 Yea, and certain women also of our company

made us astonished,

which were early at the sepulchre;

23 And when they found not his body,

they came, saying,

that they had also seen a vision

of angels,

which said that he was alive.

24 And certain of them which were with us

went to the sepulchre,

and found it even so as the women had said:

but him they saw not.

25 Then he said unto them,

O fools, and slow of heart to believe

all that the prophets have spoken:

26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things,

and to enter into his glory?

27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets,

he expounded unto them in all the scriptures

the things concerning himself.

28 And they drew nigh unto the village,

whither they went:

and he made as though he would have gone further.

29 But they constrained him,

saying, Abide with us:

for it is toward evening,

and the day is far spent.

And he went in to tarry with them.

30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them,

he took bread,

and blessed it,

and brake,

and gave to them.

31 And their eyes were opened,

and they knew him;

and he vanished out of their sight.

32 And they said one to another,

Did not our heart burn within us,

while he talked with us by the way,

and while he opened to us the scriptures?

33 And they rose up the same hour,

and returned to Jerusalem,

and found the eleven gathered together,

and them that were with them,

34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed,

and hath appeared to Simon.”  Luke 24:13-34

I can’t imagine the change of the environment when they saw and knew that Jesus was/is alive!  My friend, no matter your sorrow, grief, or feelings of hopelessness, I assure you that Jesus is LORD of all, and He can bring new life, hope, joy and restoration to your heart, mind, and soul.  He’s done it for me, and He will meet you where you are.  But by His saving blood HE won’t leave you there, He’ll lead you into His truth, love, and grace; just look up and believe in The One who died for YOU!

May you have a blessed and joy-filled time rejoicing in the victory that Jesus won at Calvary.  Rejoice in the Lord by joining His people in church tomorrow (and yes, the church is imperfect and full of hypocrites, but I’d rather go to church, in obedience to my Savior, with a few hypocrites than spend eternity in hell with them!)!

A Blessed Resurrection Day to you all.  HE IS ALIVE!!!  And HE IS COMING AGAIN!!!

Amen and Amen

Have You Been To The Cross??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #202

As we celebrate this time of the end of Jesus Christ’s earthly life, and the salvation that He provided in His death, burial, and victorious Resurrection this week, may we remember that  He arose victor over sin, death, and hell; He arose to offer eternal life to all who will come to Him in repentance of sin and faith in His substitutionary, atoning, sacrifice for that sin—for all who sin, and that my friend is all, everyone!

“And when I saw him,

I fell at his feet as dead.

And he laid his right hand upon me,

saying unto me,

Fear not;

I am the first and the last:

18 I am he that liveth,

and was dead;

and, behold, I am alive

for evermore, Amen;

and have the keys

of hell and of death.”  Revelation 1:17-18

John saw the risen Lord and He spoke to Him and assured him that it was He!  I love reading and studying The Revelation, and while it is a difficult book, it is a great comfort to those who will delve into its riches; there’s even a blessing promised to those who will read it.  Yes, a promised a blessing, yet it’s to those who don’t just read it, but more importantly, to those who will heed the messages in it, or as the KJV says the blessing is to those who keep it.

“Blessed is he

that readeth,

and they that hear the words of this prophecy,

and keep those things which are written therein:

for the time is at hand.”  Revelation 1:3

And my dear friends, the time is truly “at hand”!  Yet, the cross is still calling to all who will hear and heed Jesus’ message to “come unto me”!  Have you come to Jesus?  Do you need to come?  Many have convinced themselves that they are fine, productive people, and Satan is purporting that message at every hand.  But Jesus’ message is still the call to “come unto me”.

Who needs to come?   Let’s look to scripture to answer that question, for scripture will be the judge of every man, woman, boy, and girl—and that day is nearing, my friends.

“For the word of God is

quick,

and powerful,

and sharper than any twoedged sword,

piercing even to the dividing asunder

of soul and spirit,

and of the joints and marrow,

and is a discerner

of the thoughts and intents

of the heart.

13 Neither is there any creature

that is not manifest in his sight:

but all things

are naked and opened unto the eyes of him

with whom we have to do.”  Hebrews 4:12-13

Paul gives us even more clarity in his beautiful message to the believers at Philippi. Jesus paid the price for my sin and yours, if we will but bow before Him and receive the gift of salvation that His blood purchased; will you receive it or reject it, to pay your own debt. (And FYI, “propitiation” means the payment in full…)

“For all have sinned,

and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely by his grace

through the redemption

that is in Christ Jesus:

25 Whom God hath set forth

to be a propitiation

through faith in his blood,

to declare his righteousness

for the remission of sins that are past,

through the forbearance of God;” Romans 3:23-25

Jesus’ precious blood shed at Calvary bought salvation for all who will come to Him in repentance and faith.  What will you do with The One whose resurrection from the dead we celebrate this week?  He died for you; and God has proclaimed that “every knee shall bow”, so the question isn’t “Will you bow?” for God has declared that all will bow!  The question is, “when will you bow”!  Will you bow before Him as your Lord, Savior, and King, receiving the salvation that He died to provide; or will you bow before Him at His throne of judgment with no recourse for salvation, and pay your own sin debt in hell?  The choice is yours, but choose wisely, there is a test, and there is no cheating, for God knows!

“But now being made free from sin,

and become servants to God,

ye have your fruit unto holiness,

and the end everlasting life.

23 For the wages of sin is death;

but the gift of God is eternal life

through Jesus Christ our Lord.”   Romans 6:22-23

And Paul’s mighty message of truth, Jesus did it all for me and you:

“Let this mind be in you,

which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God,

thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation,

and took upon him the form of a servant,

and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man,

he humbled himself,

and became obedient unto death,

even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him,

and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow,

of things in heaven,

and things in earth,

and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.”  Philippians 2:5-11

I invite you to consider the cross, the peace of God that flows out from it, and the joy of The Lord that Jesus imparts to His own.

“Be careful for nothing;

but in every thing by prayer and supplication

with thanksgiving

let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God,

which passeth all understanding,

shall keep your hearts and minds

through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren,

whatsoever things are true,

whatsoever things are honest,

whatsoever things are just,

whatsoever things are pure,

whatsoever things are lovely,

whatsoever things are of good report;

if there be any virtue,

and if there be any praise,

think on these things.

9 Those things,

which ye have both learned,

and received,

and heard,

and seen in me,

do:

and the God of peace shall be with you.”  Philippians 4:6-9

And in closing the most gracious and merciful invitation of The Savior—The One who redeemed my soul, and He is here for you as well.  You will never walk alone when you come to Jesus.  “Today is the day of salvation”, what will you do with it?  I pray that you will hear the call of Jesus and respond in repentance and faith to His invitation to salvation.

“All things are delivered unto me of my Father:

and no man knoweth the Son,

but the Father;

neither knoweth any man the Father,

save the Son,

and he to whomsoever the Son

will reveal him.

28 Come unto me,

all ye that labour

and are heavy laden,

and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you,

and learn of me;

for I am meek and lowly in heart:

and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy,

and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:27-30

And some food for thought as you go about your week thinking about Jesus being lifted up (His death on the cross).  Jesus said He would draw all men to Him by this death on the cross, but He never said He would remove the free will that He imparted to all humans!  It’s your choice but choose wisely there IS a test. (See Numbers 21 if you want to know about the “serpent in the wilderness”!)

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness,

even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

15 That whosoever believeth in him

should not perish,

but have eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world,

that he gave his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him

should not perish,

but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world

to condemn the world;

but that the world through him

might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him

is not condemned:

but he that believeth not

is condemned already,

because he hath not believed

in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation,

that light is come into the world,

and men loved darkness rather than light,

because their deeds were evil.”   John 3:14-19

May you know the true joy of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ!  He is coming again soon.  Are you ready? I pray that you will come to Him.

Amen and Amen!!!

Follow Your_______???   A Word from THE WORD!!! #201

I don’t really know where this will go today, but I feel a burden to share some thoughts with you and pray that you will consider whom you will believe—the world or God and His Word.  It sounds so innocent, and yet we are being inundated with sweet-sounding messages that are contrary to The Word of God, but that’s how the enemy works.  Cute lies!  What’s your measuring stick?  Your plumb line?  Your standard?  God’s truth?

“Thus saith the LORD;

Cursed be the man that trusteth in man,

and maketh flesh his arm,

and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert,

and shall not see when good cometh;

but shall inhabit the parched places

in the wilderness,

in a salt land

and not inhabited.

7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD,

and whose hope the LORD is.

8 For he shall be as a tree

planted by the waters,

and that spreadeth out her roots

by the river,

and shall not see when heat cometh,

but her leaf shall be green;

and shall not be careful

in the year of drought,

neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

9 The heart is deceitful above all things,

and desperately wicked:

who can know it?

10 I the LORD search the heart,

I try the reins,

even to give every man

according to his ways,

and according to the fruit of his doings.”                  Jeremiah 17:5-10

The world calls us to “follow our heart”—God says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”  Not to be trite, but whom will we choose to believe, God or man?  I find it amazing that we would rather follow the “empty Gospel” rather than the truth of God’s Word: “…for all have sinned…”!   Jesus makes it very clear in John 15:5b, “without me ye can do nothing”, yet we are often too lazy to study God’s Word, but we’ll (me included) sit and gel in front of a television filled with perverted half-truths and out-right lies of the enemy of our soul!  Is it any wonder that our world is going to “hell in a hand basket”, and in many ways we have contributed to it.  The church has contributed to it, by not holding to The Word of God, but rather have embraced a watered-down gospel without the power of the cross; a cross that calls for repentance of sin and a faith in the work of the cross to transform by Jesus only, “…I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6b

Paul describes the power of the Gospel in Romans 12 most concisely and builds on this truth in 2 Corinthians 5.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren,

by the mercies of God,

that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice,

holy,

acceptable unto God,

which is your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world:

but be ye transformed

by the renewing of your mind,

that ye may prove

what is that good,

and acceptable,

and perfect, will of God.”   Romans 12:1-2

Contrary to the message today that men, women, boys, and girls can simply claim the name of Jesus and go to heaven.  We must come to Jesus for the “new birth”, being born again of The Spirit of God, made children of God supernaturally—not by any fleshly means; not good works, not church membership, not baptism, not teaching, not “praying this prayer”, or even preaching, but by being born again, and made a child of God, a new creature in Christ, “born…of God”!

“He was in the world,

and the world was made by him,

and the world knew him not.

11 He came unto his own,

and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him,

to them gave he power

to become the sons of God,

even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born,

not of blood,

nor of the will of the flesh,

nor of the will of man,

but of God.”  John 1:10-13

“Therefore if any man be in Christ,

he is a new creature:

old things are passed away;

behold, all things are become new.

18 And all things are of God,

who hath reconciled us to himself

by Jesus Christ,

and hath given to us the ministry

of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ,

reconciling the world unto himself,

not imputing their trespasses unto them;

and hath committed unto us

the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ,

as though God did beseech you by us:

we pray you in Christ’s stead,

be ye reconciled to God.

21 For he hath made him

to be sin for us,

who knew no sin;

that we might be made

the righteousness of God

in him.”  2 Corinthians 5:17-21

God transforms us from sinners into saints by the blood of Jesus because Jesus took our sin to Calvary, that we might receive the “righteousness of God in him”, and it should be evident to a lost and dying world—even when they don’t like it.  So what are we to do?  We must prepare ourselves with the “mind of Christ Jesus”!  As Paul wrote in one of the most beautiful passages of all scripture.

10 That at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow,

of things in heaven,

and things in earth,

and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.

12 Wherefore, my beloved,

as ye have always obeyed,

not as in my presence only,

but now much more in my absence,

work out your own salvation

with fear and trembling.

13 For it is God which worketh in you

both to will

and to do of his good pleasure.”  Philippians 2:5-13

So will you examine your heart and see if you are bringing your heart into submission to Jesus Christ, or are you following a heart full of the world, and looking to “feel good and prosper” (and note here the “working out your own salvation” isn’t working “for” your salvation, but working “out” what God has put “IN”)?  Will you seek the “mind of Jesus Christ” or the mind of Hellywood?  Of Nastyville?  Is your standard set by God’s Word or Hellyvision?  It’s your choice but choose wisely there is a test; and the test is by God’s criterion not man’s! Is your mind set on Jesus or something else, anything else?  And may I add, you will never recognize the lies if you don’t know the truth of God’s Word! (See 2 Timothy 2:15 & 3:16-17) May we join Joshua today, even as he called people to choose long ago:

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD,

choose you this day whom ye will serve;

whether the gods which your fathers served

that were on the other side of the flood,

or the gods of the Amorites,

in whose land ye dwell:

but as for me and my house,

we will serve the LORD.”  Joshua 24:15

Amen and Amen!!!

Jesus Is Here For YOU!!!   A Word from THE WORD!!! #200

Jesus really cares for you; He has cared for me and my family for many years, and my parents before me, and a grandmother, whom I never knew (because she died when my mother was young), but whose testimony of serving Jesus lives on in the stories of her work for The King.  And I pray that my service and ministry will live on in those God has touched through our service to The King for many years.

I want to share some truth from scripture to remind you that Jesus loves you, He cares for you, and He has promised to carry those burdens with you; and while He doesn’t always take them away, HE will “always walk with us” through them.

“Come unto me,

all ye that labour

and are heavy laden,

and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you,

and learn of me;

for I am meek and lowly in heart:

and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy,

and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30

This Good Shepherd came to give us life, and to bring fulfillment of the New Covenant of the indwelling Holy Spirit who leads us into truth, grace, and gives us the power to live for Jesus; to be overcomers!  Jesus loves you so much that He shed His blood for your sin and mine.  Won’t you “Come unto” HIM?

“Then said Jesus unto them again,

Verily, verily, I say unto you,

I am the door of the sheep.

8 All that ever came before me

are thieves

and robbers:

but the sheep did not hear them.

9 I am the door:

by me

if any man enter in,

he shall be saved,

and shall go in and out,

and find pasture.

10 The thief cometh not,

but for to steal,

and to kill,

and to destroy:

I am come

that they might have life,

and that they might have it more abundantly.

11 I am the good shepherd:

the good shepherd giveth his life

for the sheep.”  John 10:7-11

Jesus, The Great I Am, came to be the God-man Savior of all who would repent of sin, believe, and receive His substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for sin.  It’s why Jesus came, and who He declared Himself to be! (I encourage you to read all of John 10, an amazing chapter of truth and the proclamation of who Jesus was, is and ever shall be.  Yet they tried to kill Him for saying it.)

“My sheep hear my voice,

and I know them,

and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life;

and they shall never perish,

neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

29 My Father, which gave them me,

is greater than all;

and no man is able to pluck them out

of my Father’s hand.

30 I and my Father are one.”  John 10:27-30

If you are one of Jesus’ sheep, won’t you take His yoke and walk “with Him” instead of alone.  Jesus never called us to walk alone, and He said he would never leave us—stop letting Satan lead you away from His yoke and His loving arms of comfort, grace, strength, and wisdom.

“Let your conversation

be without covetousness;

and be content

with such things as ye have:

for he hath said,

I will never leave thee,

nor forsake thee.

 6 So that we may boldly say,

The Lord is my helper,

and I will not fear

what man shall do unto me.”  Hebrews 13:5-6                          (And remember that “conversation” means lifestyle.)

If you’re not one of His own, I invite you to call upon Him today in repentance (turning away from sin) and faith (turning to Jesus) in His payment of your sin debt at Calvary.  He did it all for you and me!  He cares for you, don’t miss this amazing gift!  Today is the day of salvation.

“Likewise, ye younger,

submit yourselves unto the elder.

Yea, all of you be subject

one to another,

and be clothed with humility:

for God resisteth the proud,

and giveth grace to the humble.

6 Humble yourselves therefore

under the mighty hand of God,

that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Casting all your care upon him;

for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant;

because your adversary the devil,

as a roaring lion,

walketh about,

seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith,

knowing that the same afflictions

are accomplished in your brethren

that are in the world.

10 But the God of all grace,

who hath called us unto his eternal glory

by Christ Jesus,

after that ye have suffered a while,

make you perfect,

stablish,

strengthen,

settle you.

11 To him be glory and dominion

for ever and ever. Amen.”  1 Peter 5:5-11

He truly loves and cares for you; won’t you keep your eyes on Jesus—look up, not around at the lions!

“Looking unto Jesus

the author

and finisher

of our faith;

who for the joy that was set before him

endured the cross,

despising the shame,

and is set down

at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For consider him

that endured such contradiction of sinners

against himself,

lest ye be wearied

and faint in your minds.”  Hebrews 12:2-3

Amen and Amen!!!

This IS What It Takes??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #199

We talked about “What Will It Take” last time, and I’d like to take it a bit farther and share just some thoughts on what scripture tells us that it takes to be right with God, to understand His ways, and to follow His Word.  Simply put the main thing is that we have come to Jesus for salvation and that we choose to walk with HIM—not just invite Him to rubber stamp our plans, projects, and programs, but rather to walk with HIM in all our ways.  Let’s start with a passage that is partially familiar to many of us, but sometimes we stop reading too soon.  Consider what the Proverb reveals.

“Trust in the LORD

with all thine heart;

and lean not

unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways

acknowledge him,

and he shall direct thy paths.

7 Be not wise

in thine own eyes:

fear the LORD,

and depart from evil.

8 It shall be health to thy navel,

and marrow to thy bones.

9 Honour the LORD with thy substance,

and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty,

and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD;

neither be weary of his correction:

12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth;

even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom,

and the man that getteth understanding.

14 For the merchandise of it

is better than the merchandise of silver,

and the gain thereof than fine gold.”   Proverbs 3:5-14

The author of Hebrews addresses this issue of discipline as well, and as I often teach in my classes, if you claim to be a follower of Jesus and can go your own way without the corrective hand of Jesus in your life, you might check out what you think got you saved.  Scripture makes it clear that we are to reflect the nature of our “Father”!

“And ye have forgotten the exhortation

which speaketh unto you as unto children,

My son, despise not thou

the chastening of the Lord,

nor faint

when thou art rebuked of him:

6 For whom the Lord loveth

he chasteneth,

and scourgeth

every son whom he receiveth.

7 If ye endure chastening,

God dealeth with you as with sons;

for what son is he

whom the father chasteneth not?

8 But if ye be without chastisement,

whereof all are partakers,

then are ye bastards,

and not sons.

9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh

which corrected us,

and we gave them reverence:

shall we not much rather

be in subjection unto the Father of spirits,

and live?

10 For they verily for a few days chastened us

after their own pleasure;

but he for our profit,

that we might be partakers of his holiness.

11 Now no chastening

for the present seemeth to be joyous,

but grievous:

 nevertheless afterward

it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness

unto them which are exercised thereby.”  Hebrews 12:5-11

Jesus Himself warned us of trying to “go it on our own”, we must abide with Him, in Him, and He in us!  It’s all about our relationship with Jesus, not our worldly success, wealth, position or seeming importance to the world.  It’s all about Jesus!

“I am the true vine,

and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me

that beareth not fruit

he taketh away:

and every branch

that beareth fruit,

he purgeth it,

that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean

through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 Abide in me,

and I in you.

As the branch

cannot bear fruit of itself,

except it abide in the vine;

no more can ye,

except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine,

ye are the branches:

He that abideth in me,

and I in him,

the same bringeth forth much fruit:

for without me ye can do nothing.”  John 15:1-5

Jesus also reminds us that there is a time of accounting—in fact so much of scripture reminds us that we will give an account of our life, our choices, our words, and our influence on others—what we do with it, not just that we have it.

“A good man

out of the good treasure of the heart

bringeth forth good things:

and an evil man

out of the evil treasure

bringeth forth evil things.

36 But I say unto you,

That every idle word that men shall speak,

they shall give account thereof

in the day of judgment.

37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified,

and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”                      Matthew 12:35-37

How are you using your words?  What words are you using that are inappropriate, unhelpful, or just plain harmful to others.  Is your speech so vitriolic that others avoid you at all costs?

The Apostles had an impact after the resurrection, ascension, and the imparting of the Holy Spirit upon them, such that even those who hated them were brought to make a profound statement of them; one that I pray would be the accusation toward us, if and when we are called into account.

“Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost,

said unto them,

Ye rulers of the people,

and elders of Israel,

9 If we this day be examined of the good deed

done to the impotent man,

by what means he is made whole;

10 Be it known unto you all,

and to all the people of Israel,

that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,

whom ye crucified,

whom God raised from the dead,

even by him doth this man stand here

before you whole.

11 This is the stone which was set at nought

of you builders,

which is become the head of the corner.

12 Neither is there salvation in any other:

for there is none other name under heaven

given among men,

whereby we must be saved.

13 Now when they saw the boldness

of Peter and John,

and perceived

that they were unlearned and ignorant men,

they marvelled;

and they took knowledge of them,

that they had been with Jesus.”  Acts 4:8-13

In bringing these thoughts to a close, I want to remind each of us of the accounting that will come—for the believer–we will stand before the “judgment seat of Christ” to give an accounting of our deeds done in the flesh; for the lost who have rejected Jesus, there will be a different accounting.  May you consider these truths and ask God to reveal to us the true state of our hearts.

“But why dost thou judge thy brother?

or why dost thou set at nought thy brother?

for we shall all stand

before the judgment seat of Christ.

11 For it is written,

As I live, saith the Lord,

every knee shall bow to me,

and every tongue shall confess to God.

12 So then every one of us

shall give account of himself to God.”  Romans 14:10-12

“For other foundation

can no man lay

than that is laid,

which is Jesus Christ.

12 Now if any man build upon this foundation

gold, silver, precious stones,

wood, hay, stubble;

13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest:

for the day shall declare it,

because it shall be revealed by fire;

and the fire shall try

every man’s work

of what sort it is.

14 If any man’s work abide

which he hath built thereupon,

he shall receive a reward.

15 If any man’s work shall be burned,

he shall suffer loss:

but he himself shall be saved;

yet so as by fire.”  1 Corinthians 3:11-15

And the last word is God’s!

“And I saw a great white throne,

and him that sat on it,

from whose face the earth and the heaven

fled away;

and there was found no place for them.

12 And I saw the dead,

small and great,

stand before God;

and the books were opened:

and another book was opened,

which is the book of life:

and the dead were judged

out of those things which were written

in the books,

according to their works.

13 And the sea gave up the dead

which were in it;

and death and hell delivered up the dead

which were in them:

and they were judged

every man according to their works.

14 And death and hell

were cast into the lake of fire.

This is the second death.

15 And whosoever was not found

written in the book of life

was cast into the lake of fire.”  Revelation 20:11-15

The choice is yours.  Where is your name written? Choose wisely there is a test—ready or not Jesus is coming back to gather His own, who have chosen to believer and receive His salvation, but as judge to all who have not.  How will He find you?  May you reach out to Jesus today if you haven’t yet done so, and trust to His saving grace and not your own resources.  If you belong to Jesus, is it time for you to reevaluate your walk with The Master?  May He find us faithfully serving and following His way!

Amen and Amen!!!
