Choices Matter???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #448

“Be not deceived;

God is not mocked:

for whatsoever a man soweth,

that shall he also reap.

8 For he that soweth to his flesh

shall of the flesh reap corruption;

but he that soweth to the Spirit

shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

9 And let us not be weary in well doing:

for in due season we shall reap,

if we faint not.

10 As we have therefore opportunity,

let us do good unto all men,

especially unto them

who are of the household of faith.”  Galatians 6:7-10

While verse 7 is familiar to most people, we often miss the context that follows; there is a marked connection between the flesh and its consequences, as well as between the Spirit and our life everlasting in Jesus.  When our life is marked by a continual sowing to and feeding of the flesh, we ought not be surprised when our consequences lead, as Jesus said on numerous occasions, to destruction (of one sort or another).

By the same token, a life lived in “the Spirit” will lead us to blessings beyond measure, a life of blessedness in the Spirit!  Paul doesn’t stop there; he goes on to remind us that this life of living in the Spirit will call for a perseverance in our  daily walk with Jesus.  It’s not a walk in the park, but it will be a walk of success when we “faint not”!   It doesn’t stop there, we are to exercise goodness toward “all men”, especially to them of the “household of faith”!  Our lives are to be marked by compassion and selflessness; unlike the world around us so focused on greed and self!

Paul talked to the Corinthian believers about generosity, and I want us to consider what marks our lives; greed or generosity?

“But this I say,

He which soweth sparingly

shall reap also sparingly;

and he which soweth bountifully

shall reap also bountifully.

7 Every man according as he purposeth

in his heart,

so let him give;

not grudgingly,

or of necessity:

for God loveth a cheerful giver.

8 And God is able to make all grace

abound toward you;

that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things,

may abound to every good work:

9 (As it is written,

He hath dispersed abroad;

he hath given to the poor:

his righteousness remaineth for ever.

10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower

both minister bread for your food,

 and multiply your seed sown,

and increase the fruits

of your righteousness😉

11 Being enriched in every thing

to all bountifulness,

which causeth through us

thanksgiving to God.”  2 Corinthians 9:6-11

Generosity doesn’t mean just giving randomly, it does mean having a heart willing to share as we have opportunity to help others.  It means when we see a need that we can legitimately meet, we are to ask God if that is a place for us to render service. As Paul says above, we are to remember that “having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work…”!  We are to have a heart attuned to God and He will direct our steps and our actions; we are to cause others to have cause to give glory to God—never for our own glory or credit.  And that can be difficult in this “attention focused” culture; it seems everyone wants recognition for every little thing—the I deserve a trophy mentality!  I simply want to please my Lord, and for me, that means, as often as possible, doing things anonymously!

“Take heed that ye do not your alms before men,

to be seen of them:

otherwise ye have no reward

of your Father which is in heaven.

2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms,

do not sound a trumpet before thee,

as the hypocrites do

in the synagogues

and in the streets,

that they may have glory of men.

Verily I say unto you,

They have their reward.

3 But when thou doest alms,

let not thy left hand

know what thy right hand doeth:

4 That thine alms may be in secret:

and thy Father

which seeth in secret himself

shall reward thee openly.”  Matthew 6:1-4

Jesus calls us to live differently than the world (even the world within the church—for just saying so doesn’t make it so), especially when we talk about giving!  Our choices do matter—whether it’s our morals, our compassion, or our resources; we are called to put others before ourselves; and Paul has a lot to say about this, so I want us to consider a couple of passages from Paul which remind us  that our lives are to be evidence of the transforming power of Jesus Christ through His sacrifice for our salvation, and the presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of every genuine believer!

“Let no corrupt communication

proceed out of your mouth,

but that which is good

to the use of edifying,

that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God,

whereby ye are sealed

unto the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger,

and clamour, and evil speaking,

be put away from you,

with all malice:

32 And be ye kind one to another,

tenderhearted,

forgiving one another,

even as God for Christ’s sake

    hath forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:29-32

“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory;

but in lowliness of mind

let each esteem other

better than themselves.

4 Look not every man on his own things,

but every man also on the things of others.

5 Let this mind be in you,

which was also in Christ Jesus:”   Philippians 2:3-5

Amen and Amen!!!

It’s your choice, but choose wisely, there is a test. May Jesus be seen in our lives, our work, and our care for others!

His coming is near!!!

Bible Ballistics: BBs #734 Faithful In Little>Faithful In Much???

I have a few simple (yet profound) thoughts to share with you today.  For many often proclaim, “I’d die for Jesus!”; yet these same people don’t have time to “live” for Jesus.  They have no thought of serving God in and through the church; they may or may not grace God with their occasional presence—but their hands are surely held out for the “presents” of God, with very little, if any, thought for HIS “Presence”!  How sad!  Jesus said if we aren’t faithful in the “little” (“the least”) things—like our daily living—we won’t be faithful in the “big” (“much”) things.  I find it quite interesting that Jesus relates ‘unfaithfulness’ with being “unjust”!  It seems to me that Jesus is telling us that if our character exhibits faithfulness and justice toward God and His Word, then we will have that same character in the world—in our daily living before the world!  Then He goes on to remind us that it’s an issue of the heart and “what master” we have chosen to serve—God or self (and self pretty much covers all the choices that are not of God!)!

“He that is faithful

in that which is least

is faithful

also in much:

and he that is unjust

in the least

 is unjust

also in much.

11 If therefore ye have not been faithful

in the unrighteous mammon,

who will commit to your trust

the true riches?

12 And if ye have not been faithful

in that which is another man’s,

who shall give you

that which is your own?

13 No servant can serve

two masters:

for either he will hate the one,

and love the other;

or else he will hold to the one,

and despise the other.

Ye cannot serve God

and mammon.

14 And the Pharisees also,

who were covetous,

heard all these things:

and they derided him.

15 And he said unto them,

Ye are they which justify yourselves

before men;

but God knoweth

your hearts:

for that which is highly esteemed

among men

is abomination

 in the sight of God.”   Luke 16:10-15

What are we setting as “highly esteemed” in our lives?  Is it service to God or service to self?  How easy is it for us to find something else to do on Sunday (or Saturday if that is your day of worship) rather than gather for corporate worship, study, and receiving The Word of God in power and truth?  I remember a time when there were no ballgames played on Sundays or Wednesday nights (much less team practices on ‘church’ nights!) because parents had their children in church; in fact, I heard of a man who told the coach that if he wanted his sons to play ball, he had to understand that they would be in church on Sundays and Wednesday nights!  Boy you don’t hear that today! For it seems that today, we find most any excuse to be elsewhere (and no I’m not talking about Covid or illnesses, especially since we are of an age to be affected with health issues that often keep us at home when we’d rather be at church).  And while I’m at it, let me also add that when we watch at home, we try to be up and dressed for worship—and yes, I think that matters.  Why would we claim to be gathering to worship The Almighty God of all creation and come dressed like we’re going to a hog-wrestling match or a peep show!  We wouldn’t dress like that to meet any other important “personage”—but God won’t mind.  No, God’s isn’t judging us by the price-tag or style of our clothes, but HE is interested in our heart, and if we love someone, we usually try to care about our appearance for them!  Worship is coming into God’s presence and seeking His face and desiring to hear HIS voice speak to us! Another message that Jesus had for His disciples is a bit harsh seemingly, especially for our culture of ease, expecting God to be a heavenly slot machine; I drop in my request, and HE produces on demand!  Excuse me—who is the ‘god’ here?

“But which of you, having a servant

plowing

or feeding cattle,

will say unto him by and by,

when he is come from the field,

Go and sit down to meat?

8 And will not rather say unto him,

Make ready wherewith I may sup,

and gird thyself,

and serve me,

till I have eaten and drunken;

and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?

9 Doth he thank that servant

because he did the things

that were commanded him?

I trow not.

10 So likewise ye,

when ye shall have done all those things

which are commanded you,

say,

We are unprofitable servants:

we have done that which

was our duty to do.”   Luke 17:7-10

We seem to have forgotten that we belong to Jesus—or that is what scripture tells us!  Yet we seem to have this idea that when we claim the blood and name of Jesus, we are “entitled” to rub our ‘magic lamp” and have our every fleshly desire met! NOT! NOT! NOT!

“What?

know ye not

that your body is the temple

of the Holy Ghost

which is in you,

which ye have of God,

and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price:

therefore glorify God

in your body,

and in your spirit,

which are God’s.”   1 Corinthians 6:19-20

We are called to seek God’s desires, His will, and His way!  Trusting to His care and provision for every area of our lives.  And that’s not always easy; simple yes, but easy, NO!  But as Paul said:

“I can do all things through Christ

which strengtheneth me.”  Philippians 4:13

I can testify to this truth, for it is how I’ve gotten through the last 18 months (since the death of my precious daughter)—by trusting to THE ONE who holds my hand every step of the way!  Get your eyes off of the “things” around you and look to Jesus, and seek HIS face, HIS Word, and HIS Kingdom FIRST!

“Therefore

 take no thought, saying,

What shall we eat?

or, What shall we drink?

or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32 (For after all these things

do the Gentiles seek:)

for your heavenly Father knoweth

that ye have need of all these things.

33 But

seek ye first the kingdom of God,

and his righteousness;

 and all these things

shall be added unto you.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow:

for the morrow shall take thought

for the things of itself.

Sufficient unto the day

 is the evil thereof.”  Matthew 6:31-34

One of the signs of a committed believer and follower of Jesus can often be determined by their ‘wallet’.  But wait, giving isn’t just about our financial resources—it’s about giving our “redeemed life” to Jesus in grateful love, devotion, and service (His service)!

“But this I say,

He which soweth sparingly

shall reap also sparingly;

 and he which soweth bountifully

shall reap also bountifully.

7 Every man according as he purposeth

in his heart,

so let him give;

not grudgingly,

 or of necessity:

for God loveth a cheerful giver.

8 And God is able to make all grace

abound toward you;

that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things,

may abound to every good work:

 9 (As it is written,

He hath dispersed abroad;

he hath given to the poor:

his righteousness remaineth for ever.

10 Now he that ministereth

seed to the sower

both minister bread for your food,

and multiply your seed sown,

and increase

the fruits of your righteousness;)

11 Being enriched in every thing

to all bountifulness,

which causeth through us

thanksgiving to God.”  2 Corinthians 9:6-11

And while this has been a bit heavy today, I would like to bring us to one of my very favorite passages to lift your hearts to the “Throne of Grace…to obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (See Hebrews 4:16).  This is a great passage to memorize for it tells us the “how to” of walking with Jesus each and every day!  Try it—HE has never failed me yet!  And HE IS coming soon for HIS own!  Just remember that “the desires of thine heart” are only filled for good when we “delight thyself…in the LORD”; this isn’t another of those “slot machines”!  Never presume on God—HE is God, I am not!

“Trust in the LORD,

and do good;

so shalt thou dwell in the land,

and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also

in the LORD;

and he shall give thee

the desires of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way

unto the LORD;

trust also in him;

and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness

as the light,

 and thy judgment

as the noonday.

7 Rest in the LORD,

and wait patiently for him:

fret not thyself

because of him

who prospereth in his way,

because of the man

who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8 Cease from anger,

and forsake wrath:

fret not thyself in any wise

to do evil.”   Psalm 37:3-8

May you hear the voice of Jesus speaking to your heart. And take note— ‘trust’ and ‘fret not’ are mentioned twice; maybe for a reason!!!  HE is waiting for you to hear and heed to HIS voice!  The days are quickly dwindling past—don’t put God off until it’s too late.  HE is waiting for YOU!

“And therefore will the LORD wait,

that he may be gracious unto you,

and therefore will he be exalted,

 that he may have mercy upon you:

for the LORD is a God of judgment:

blessed are all they that wait for him.”   Isaiah 30:18

Amen and Amen!!!
