Popular Or Particular??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #184

Or we could say, “Kids Matter”!  What do these three things have in common?  Well, simply put, we can lead, teach, and encourage our children to be particular in their life choices, or we can fail to regard the import of our call to instruct, direct and teach our children the ways of God, leading by our example or teach them that popularity is the ultimate goal.  It breaks my heart when I see parents more concerned with their child’s popularity than with teaching then the biblical foundations of truth.  It’s the curse of our culture—be the “idol”, the “star”, the “lone ranger” or whatever will put them in the “spotlight”!  How sad that it seems we have lost sight of the greater goal to help our children become godly, productive men and women of God making a difference in a world gone crazy.

We need to overcome the old adage of, “Do what I say, not what I do”, and lead our children to the cross not “Hellywood” and its culture!  Scripture is replete with warnings, instructions, and the call to be what God wants us to be, not what the enemy of our souls dangles in front of our children (and the adults too).  It seems that we have slept through God’s warnings in scripture.

“Love not the world,

neither the things that are in the world.

If any man love the world,

the love of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world,

the lust of the flesh,

and the lust of the eyes,

and the pride of life,

is not of the Father,

but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away,

and the lust thereof:

but he that doeth the will of God

abideth for ever.”  1 John 2:15-17

When we determine to live for Jesus, by His power, His might and His wisdom, the world will not like it.  How is that so many who claim the name of Jesus have no desire to follow Him.

“Behold, what manner of love the Father

hath bestowed upon us,

that we should be called the sons of God:

therefore the world knoweth us not,

because it knew him not.

2 Beloved now are we the sons of God,

and it doth not yet appear what we shall be:

but we know that, when he shall appear,

we shall be like him;

for we shall see him

as he is.

3 And every man that hath this hope in him

purifieth himself,

even as he is pure.”  1 John 3:1-3

Are we God’s children?  How?  It’s a work of grace and truth– Jesus, who saves us by repentance and faith in His substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for sin—my sin and yours!

“He was in the world,

and the world was made by him,

and the world knew him not.

11 He came unto his own,

and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him,

to them gave he power

to become the sons of God,

even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born,

not of blood,

nor of the will of the flesh,

nor of the will of man,

but of God.”  John 1:10-13

It’s the same “new birth” that Jesus referred to in John chapter 3, when he told Nicodemus, “ye must be born again”!  Yet so many claim to belong to Jesus, but their lives match the world not The King of Kings!  We need to consider the words of James and examine our life to see where our allegiance lies—with Jesus or with the world.  Whose child are you?  The behavior will tell the tale, let’s determine to make our “lights shine for Jesus not the Devil”!

“Ye lust,

and have not:

ye kill,

and desire to have,

and cannot obtain:

ye fight and war,

yet ye have not,

because ye ask not.

3 Ye ask,

and receive not,

because ye ask amiss,

that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses,

know ye not that the friendship of the world

is enmity with God?

whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world

is the enemy of God.

5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain,

The spirit that dwelleth in us

lusteth to envy?

6 But he giveth more grace.

Wherefore he saith,

God resisteth the proud,

but giveth grace unto the humble.

 7 Submit yourselves therefore

to God.

Resist the devil,

and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God,

and he will draw nigh to you.

Cleanse your hands,

ye sinners;

and purify your hearts,

ye double minded.”  James 4:2-8

May we truly “Draw nigh to God” that He will “draw nigh to you”; seeking to know God’s will and His ways and leading our children and grandchildren to the cross and not the pit of hell.  I don’t mean to be blunt, but time is short, and our children are going to hell in a handbasket, often because we have failed to show them the “crucified life” and the Redeemer who died for their sin!  Let’s lead them to the cross and not the world—only the cross provides real life.  Do we really believe that?  I do! It’s your choice but choose wisely, there is a test.

“I am crucified with Christ:

nevertheless I live;

yet not I,

but Christ liveth in me:

and the life which I now live in the flesh

I live by the faith of the Son of God,

who loved me,

and gave himself for me.”  Galatians 2:20

Will we stand up for the gospel in this day of compromise that others may see Jesus in us?

“For it is written,

As I live, saith the Lord,

every knee shall bow to me,

and every tongue shall confess to God.

12 So then every one of us

shall give account of himself to God.”   Romans 14:11-12

Amen and Amen!!!

He may come today!  Are you ready?

Nothing More Important???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #179

There are many important things in this world, but only one that is of prime importance, and that is knowing and belonging to Jesus, and sharing HIM with those around us, especially those whom we love.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing?

and one of them shall not fall on the ground

without your Father.

30 But the very hairs of your head

are all numbered.

31 Fear ye not therefore,

ye are of more value than many sparrows.

32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men,

him will I confess also before my Father

which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men,

him will I also deny before my Father

which is in heaven.”  Matthew 10:29-33

Jesus isn’t simply talking about “words” here, but those who come to Him in repentance and faith and show it by living a life of faithful love and obedience to Him.  Jesus describes those who just “use” His name, whose motives are less than honorable, those who are working for their own benefit not God’s!  Jesus says they are working iniquity not righteousness.  Remember, “saying so, doesn’t make it so”, but a personal relationship with Jesus by being born again by the Holy Spirit of God does.  Paul helps us understand that just our “outward” works aren’t the proof of our salvation, but the “inward” presence and work of the Holy Spirit.

“So then they that are in the flesh

cannot please God.

9 But ye are not in the flesh,

but in the Spirit,

if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.

Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ,

he is none of his.

10 And if Christ be in you,

the body is dead because of sin;

but the Spirit is life

because of righteousness.

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus

from the dead

dwell in you,

he that raised up Christ

from the dead

shall also quicken your mortal bodies

by his Spirit

that dwelleth in you.”  Romans 8:8-11

Paul went on to explain this even more clearly to the believers at Corinth; where he helps us to know that our righteousness is from JESUS; it is not of ourselves, but of His exchange at Calvary—His life paying for my sin—His righteousness imparted to me as I come to Him in repentance and faith unto salvation!  This transaction is all by God’s grace not of our own will, for it is “Christ in you, the hope of glory…”, not anything of me, but it’s all in, from, for and through Jesus.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ,

he is a new creature:

old things are passed away;

behold, all things are become new.

18 And all things are of God,

who hath reconciled us to himself

by Jesus Christ,

and hath given to us the ministry

of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ,

reconciling the world unto himself,

not imputing their trespasses unto them;

and hath committed unto us

the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ,

as though God did beseech you by us:

we pray you in Christ’s stead,

be ye reconciled to God.

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us,

who knew no sin;

that we might be made the righteousness of God

in him.”  2 Corinthians 5:17-21

And Jesus’ own words remind us again, that as I often say, “Saying so, doesn’t make it so,” but Jesus’ saying so, does make it so! (I encourage you to read all of chapter 7 and take note of the difference between the “many” and the “few”.)

“Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit

is hewn down,

and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits

ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord,

shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;

but he that doeth the will

of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day,

Lord, Lord,

have we not prophesied in thy name?

and in thy name have cast out devils?

and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them,

I never knew you:

depart from me,

ye that work iniquity.”  Matthew 7:19-23

There are so many clear statements that Jesus made which help us know truth.  Will you stand in the popular “buzz words”, “memes”, or The Words of Jesus?

“Jesus saith unto him,

I am

the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:6

“I am the vine,

ye are the branches:

He that abideth in me,

and I in him,

the same bringeth forth much fruit:

for without me ye can do nothing.”  John 15:5

Jude adds insight to the truth that just being in the church isn’t enough; Paul warned the Ephesians that “wolves” would come into their midst, and they are in ours, it’s why we must know The Word of God and share it with those around us. We can give our children, grandchildren, friends and loved ones anything you can name but if we don’t share JESUS with them, what do they have?

“For there are certain men crept in unawares,

who were before of old

ordained to this condemnation,

ungodly men,

turning the grace of our God

into lasciviousness,

and denying the only Lord God,

and our Lord Jesus Christ.”  Jude 1:4

Where will you stand?  Where is your name written?  Your loved ones?  What else matters?

“Then said Jesus unto his disciples,

If any man will come after me,

let him deny himself,

and take up his cross,

and follow me.

25 For whosoever will save his life

shall lose it:

and whosoever will lose his life for my sake

shall find it.

26 For what is a man profited,

if he shall gain the whole world,

and lose his own soul?

or what shall a man give

in exchange for his soul?

27 For the Son of man shall come

in the glory of his Father

with his angels;

and then he shall reward every man

according to his works.”   Matthew 16:24-27

And oh my friends, that we would be found faithful when HE comes; and HE is coming, I believe sooner than we can imagine.  And a word of caution to those who think they’ll come to Jesus during the tribulation when they are rejecting Him right now.  It won’t happen—consider what Paul warned us of.

“And then shall that Wicked be revealed,

whom the Lord shall consume

with the spirit of his mouth,

and shall destroy

with the brightness of his coming:

9 Even him,

whose coming is after the working of Satan

with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness

of unrighteousness in them that perish;

because they received not

the love of the truth,

that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause

God shall send them strong delusion,

that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned

who believed not the truth,

but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”  2 Thessalonians 2:8-12

May we all be diligent to be found faithful and share Jesus as we have opportunity, living the crucified life by dying to self daily as Jesus said and living by the power and direction of The Holy Spirit.

“I am crucified with Christ:

nevertheless I live;

yet not I,

but Christ liveth in me:

and the life which I now live in the flesh

I live by the faith of the Son of God,

who loved me,

and gave himself for me.”  Galatians 2:20

Amen and Amen!!!

Twisting Or Bowing???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #158

Some food for thought as we approach the time of not only being thankful but abundantly grateful for God’s gift of “His only begotten Son” for our salvation. But a question that we often miss is “who is God”?  God Almighty the creator of all things or “me”?  We have become so focused on self that we forget that God is God, and we are not; for Jesus makes it very clear that our focus should be ‘bowing’ before our King, not dictating to HIM what we ‘want’!  It’s kind of the difference between being perpetually grateful and celebrating “Thanks” each day of the year rather than a day of “Pride-feasting”!

“After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done

in earth,

as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day

our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil:

For thine is

the kingdom,

and the power,

and the glory, for ever. Amen.”   Matthew 6:9-13

Jesus called His followers to pray for God’s Kingdom to come, for God’s will to be done—right here on earth, as it is in heaven—perfectly, continually, rightly and to HIS glory and our good.  What are you praying for?  We are told to take our requests to God, but never in the dictatorial manner that so many today practice and promote.  We are told that we can come ‘boldly’ before our God, but never, never, never ‘arrogantly or presumptuously’!  For God is our heavenly Father not our ‘sugar daddy’.  We are called to love Him, to trust Him, and to seek HIS will in all things, because HE IS GOD and HE is trustworthy, and has given to each believer the indwelling Holy Spirit to teach us, lead us, and direct our steps!  We must trust to our God in all things, else how can we walk in union with HIM?

“Can two walk together,

except they be agreed?”  Amos 3:3

To be ‘agreed’ with God, we must know HIM through the ‘blood of Jesus Christ His Son’ that ‘cleanseth us from all sin’; and we must know HIS WORD to enable us to make wise and discerning choices.  Paul gives us amazing assurance that God is working all things around us—even when we don’t understand or see it, God never fails!  You can trust HIM, yet some claim to know HIM but not enough to trust HIM!  Do you really know Him as being trustworthy?

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:

for we know not what we should pray for

as we ought:

but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us

with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts

knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,

because he maketh intercession

for the saints

according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together

for good

to them that love God,

to them who are the called

according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow,

he also did predestinate to be conformed

to the image of his Son,

that he might be the firstborn

among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate,

them he also called:

and whom he called,

them he also justified:

and whom he justified,

them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say to these things?

If God be for us,

who can be against us?”  Romans 8:26-31

The author of Hebrews reminds us that we can come to HIM in complete trust, laying our needs, concerns, and burdens at His feet confidently!

“For we have not an high priest

which cannot be touched

with the feeling of our infirmities;

but was in all points tempted

like as we are,

yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly

unto the throne of grace,

that we may obtain mercy,

and find grace to help

in time of need.”  Hebrews 4:15-16

So, the question is, are we trying to twist God’s arm, put our quarter in the slot and pull the demand handle and expect God to send the jackpot?  Or are we willing to truly trust in His will, His kingdom work, His will, and His Word?  Are we willing to be contented even when we don’t understand?  Are we willing to go to Calvary as Jesus did, or do we think we are above suffering for the kingdom?  Paul warned Timothy of the danger of discontent, greed, and self.

“Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds,

and destitute of the truth,

supposing that gain is godliness:

from such withdraw thyself.

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7 For we brought nothing into this world,

and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

8 And having food and raiment

let us be therewith content.

9 But they that will be rich

fall into temptation

and a snare,

and into many foolish and hurtful lusts,

which drown men in destruction

and perdition.

10 For the love of money is the root of all evil:

which while some coveted after,

they have erred from the faith,

and pierced themselves through

with many sorrows.

11 But thou, O man of God,

flee these things;

and follow after

righteousness, godliness,

faith, love,

patience, meekness.”   1 Timothy 6:5-11

Paul sums it up for us in his letter to the Philippian believers, they were to have the humility and obedience of Jesus!  May we be found faithful before our God as well as a lost and dying world!  Our world needs the true Gospel—that Jesus died for our sin and calls us to repentance and faith in His substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for sin (See 1 Corinthians 15:3-5)!

“Let this mind be in you,

which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God,

thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation,

 and took upon him the form

of a servant,

and was made

in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man,

he humbled himself,

and became obedient unto death,

even the death of the cross.”  Philippians 2:5-8

And Jesus’ own words set the record straight, we are called to die to “SELF” and live to Jesus, following HIM even unto death.

“And he said to them all,

If any man will come after me,

let him deny himself,

and take up his cross daily,

and follow me.

24 For whosoever will save his life

shall lose it:

but whosoever will lose his life for my sake,

the same shall save it.

25 For what is a man advantaged,

if he gain the whole world,

and lose himself,

or be cast away?”  Luke 9:23-25

And one of my favorite and often repeated verses says it all:

“I am crucified with Christ:

nevertheless I live;

yet not I,

but Christ liveth in me:

and the life which I now live in the flesh

I live by the faith of the Son of God,

who loved me,

and gave himself for me.”  Galatians 2:20

Amen and Amen!!!

You’re A Witness Regardless???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #151

November has arrived and the Fall here in Oklahoma has been of the yoyo variety this year, we’ve had lovely cool temperatures and I sit here this morning with the door open to the screen to let in the lovely cool air.  I love this time of year, and along with cool temperatures hopefully our minds are sifting through the abundant blessings of God for which we are thankful.  I could make a list, but so could you; but do we?  Sometimes we let the busyness of life cloud out our attitude of gratitude, and gratitude is a much-needed commodity in our culture today—everyday—but especially in a day of ‘entitlement’ thinking we are needed to spread the good news of what God has done for us, you, and me!

The saddest part to me is that we are so busy looking for ‘new’ stuff that we haven’t taken time to consider what God has done for us, the blessings that HE has provided, our salvation, family, friends, possessions, etc…  We have fallen for the Wall Street idea of “new” stuff—all eyes and minds (even mine!) get distracted by the “Sales” that you just can’t miss!  “You have to have this!”  “Your kids have to have that!”  “A new car would get better mileage than our current car!”—knowing that there is no reason we “need” any of these things.  I find myself caught up sometimes, it’s like going to an auction where you can get caught up in the ‘bidding’ and wind up with something that you have absolutely no need for, just because you got caught up in the ‘competition’!  Really?  Where’s my attitude of gratitude?

An attitude of gratitude does help, yet there is something more that I want us to consider today about gratitude; that is being a “witness”!  When we call upon Jesus for our salvation, HE delivers us from sin, shame, and death, and calls us to be HIS witnesses!

“When they therefore were come together,

 they asked of him, saying,

Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again

the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them,

It is not for you to know the times or the seasons,

which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power,

after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:

and ye shall be witnesses unto me

both in Jerusalem,

and in all Judaea,

and in Samaria,

and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things,

while they beheld,

he was taken up;

and a cloud received him out of their sight.”   Acts 1:6-9

Jesus makes it clear that when we are saved “ye shall be witnesses unto me”!  We are enabled to be witnesses for Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit who is imparted to every born-again believer, Jesus gives us all we need—the power of the Holy Spirit and His Holy Written Word!  We can deny it, we can pass it off on the preachers and teachers, we can just neglect it!  But my friends the truth is that YOU/I ARE witnesses right now; are. you a good witness, living in the power of the Holy Spirit and the power of God’s Holy Word?  The question isn’t are you a witness—for YOU are a witness!  The question is whether we are being “good and faithful” witnesses, or we are being poor and negative witness?  It’s your choice and mine but choose wisely for God is holding us accountable for our witness!  Not by the number of tracts we gave out, but by what people see in our lives; do they see Jesus or the world.  It’s not about perfect attendance pins, or how much we ‘give’, or if we work tirelessly in some ministry!  Rather it’s about how closely we are walking with Jesus!  And to walk closely with Jesus we have to get to know HIM through prayer, and Bible Study—not just reading the Bible but digging in and letting God’s Word direct your/my steps, and the fellowship of like-minded believers in a Bible-preaching church!

When we are following Jesus, some may not like it; you may not be the most popular person at the office; you may make some people mad for your biblical stands; you may even be ridiculed and spoken ill of, but Jesus said this was to be the norm for those who loved HIM and followed HIM!

“If the world hate you,

ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 If ye were of the world,

the world would love his own:

but because ye are not of the world,

but I have chosen you out of the world,

therefore the world hateth you.

20 Remember the word that I said unto you,

The servant is not greater than his lord.

If they have persecuted me,

they will also persecute you;

if they have kept my saying,

they will keep yours also.

21 But all these things will they do unto you

for my name’s sake,

because they know not him that sent me.”   John 15:18-21

Even in the beginning of His ministry Jesus mentioned this cost of being HIS witness.

“Blessed are they which are persecuted

for righteousness’ sake:

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye,

when men shall revile you,

and persecute you,

and shall say all manner of evil against you

falsely,

for my sake.

12 Rejoice,

and be exceeding glad:

for great is your reward in heaven:

for so persecuted they the prophets

which were before you.”  Matthew 5:10-12

We don’t hear a lot of preaching and teaching on this subject, but I believe it is much needed, and it’s one of the reasons that I write at all, especially on this subject, and in this season of “gratitude”– a time when we can take stock of our possessions, our blessings, our callings, our faithfulness to The ONE we call Lord, and the opportunities which HE gives us.  I pray that you will take some time this month, even today, to go before The Lord Jesus and seek HIS face asking to know HIM more and hear from HIM with your Bible open to help you nail it down!  If you ask, HE will reveal truth to you (one of the functions of The Holy Spirit!)!  Yet there is a cost to discipleship—a cost many aren’t willing to pay!  How about you?  Paul warned his son-in-the-ministry, Timothy, about being prepared for the cost of being Jesus’ witness, disciple, follower, lover!

“Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus

shall suffer persecution.

13 But evil men and seducers

shall wax worse and worse,

deceiving,

and being deceived.

14 But continue thou in the things

which thou hast learned

and hast been assured of,

knowing of whom thou hast learned them;”   2 Timothy 3:12

We are called to keep our eyes on The Prize, Jesus, and like Paul I pray that my life will reflect the glory of Jesus, drawing people to HIS cross, and helping to grow HIS children in The Word.  Peter also has a word of wisdom about this suffering.

“But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake,

happy are ye:

and be not afraid of their terror,

neither be troubled;

15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts:

and be ready always to give an answer

to every man that asketh you a reason

of the hope that is in you

with meekness

and fear:

16 Having a good conscience;

that, whereas they speak evil of you,

as of evildoers,

they may be ashamed that falsely accuse

your good conversation in Christ.

17 For it is better,

if the will of God be so,

that ye suffer for well doing,

than for evil doing.

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins,

the just for the unjust,

that he might bring us to God,

being put to death in the flesh,

but quickened by the Spirit:”  1 Peter 3:14-18

In closing, another word from Peter that I pray will encourage you, as well as a word from Paul’s letter to the Galatian believers that speaks to us all—a crucified life, for Jesus paid it ALL!!!  How can we be less than faithful witnesses before a lost and dying world?  It’s a question only you can answer—only I can answer!  It’s your choice and mine, but choose wisely, there is a test!

“For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted

for your faults,

ye shall take it patiently?

but if, when ye do well,

and suffer for it,

ye take it patiently,

 this is acceptable with God.

21 For even hereunto were ye called:

because Christ also suffered for us,

leaving us an example,

that ye should follow his steps:

22 Who did no sin,

neither was guile found in his mouth:

23 Who, when he was reviled,

reviled not again;

when he suffered,

he threatened not;

but committed himself to him

that judgeth righteously:

24 Who his own self bare our sins

in his own body on the tree,

that we,

being dead to sins,

should live unto righteousness:

by whose stripes ye were healed.

25 For ye were as sheep going astray;

but are now returned

unto the Shepherd

and Bishop of your souls.”   1 Peter 2:20-25

Paul’s challenge to us all!  May our ‘witness’ be of Jesus rather than the world—who needs our LORD JESUS desperately!!!

“I am crucified with Christ:

nevertheless I live;

yet not I,

but Christ liveth in me:

and the life which I now live in the flesh

I live by the faith of the Son of God,

who loved me,

and gave himself for me.”  Galatians 2:20

Amen and Amen!!!

Fall Into________???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #143

“And he spake a parable unto them,

Can the blind lead the blind?

shall they not both fall into the ditch?

40 The disciple is not above his master:

but every one that is perfect

shall be as his master.”  Luke 6:39-40

I love the words of Jesus, and I hope to start a study on them soon, but the thing I want us to consider this morning is, “What are we falling into?”  Are we blind leaders of the blind?  Are we walking “in the light as he is in the light”?  Jesus is The Lord of all, and we must choose who or what we will follow or ‘fall into’; Jesus is ever calling us to follow HIS lead, not the blindness of this world.  But there is something else significant that Jesus is calling us to—to follow HIM personally as well as HIS example!

“And Jesus answered them, saying,

The hour is come,

that the Son of man should be glorified.

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you,

Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground

and die,

it abideth alone:

but if it die,

it bringeth forth much fruit.

25 He that loveth his life

shall lose it;

and he that hateth his life in this world

shall keep it

unto life eternal.

26 If any man serve me,

let him follow me;

and where I am,

there shall also my servant be:

 if any man serve me,

him will my Father honour.”  John 12:23-26

Jesus came to die for my sin and yours!  It’s why HE came to this earth, to be “the Lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world”!  And this “Lamb of God” would lay down HIS life for sin—yet not HIS own sin, but for yours and mine; this perfect sinless Son of God came to pay the debt that you and I owed for SIN!  He died for my sin and yours, so we could have eternal life.  If we’ll see through what else Jesus is saying to us, we won’t miss the call to the “cross”; Jesus said if we don’t die to self, we can’t have HIS life, but when we are willing to “take up” our own cross and “follow Jesus” where ever HE leads, we will find HIS life within us, HIS life seen through us, and HIS glory reflected in a Holy Spirit empowered, godly life!  Paul said it better than I can!

“I am crucified with Christ:

nevertheless I live;

yet not I,

but Christ liveth in me:

and the life which I now live in the flesh

I live by the faith of the Son of God,

who loved me,

and gave himself for me.”  Galatians 2:20

Jesus carried your sin and mine to Calvary; won’t you trust HIM with your life, for HE died for a debt HE didn’t owe, because we owed a debt that we couldn’t pay unless we go to HELL!  Jesus is able, willing, and victorious over sin, death, and HELL, if you’ll but come to HIM in repentance, and faith in HIS substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for sin—yours and mine.

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest,

that is passed into the heavens,

Jesus the Son of God,

let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest

which cannot be touched

with the feeling of our infirmities;

but was in all points tempted like as we are,

yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly

unto the throne of grace,

 that we may obtain mercy,

and find grace to help

 in time of need.”  Hebrews 4:14-16

Jesus had an amazing conversation with Peter after the resurrection; a conversation that seems to be Jesus’ work of restoration in a beloved disciple/Apostle/friend who had fallen into the temptation of denial in the face of fear and trouble.  Do YOU/I “lovest thou ME more than these”?  You fill in the ______ of your “these”!  Have you failed HIM?

“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter,

Simon, son of Jonas,

lovest thou me more than these?

He saith unto him,

Yea, Lord;

thou knowest that I love thee.

He saith unto him,

Feed my lambs.

16 He saith to him again the second time,

Simon, son of Jonas,

lovest thou me?

He saith unto him,

Yea, Lord;

thou knowest that I love thee.

He saith unto him,

Feed my sheep.

17 He saith unto him the third time,

Simon, son of Jonas,

lovest thou me?

Peter was grieved because he said unto him

the third time,

Lovest thou me?

And he said unto him,

Lord, thou knowest all things;

thou knowest that I love thee.

Jesus saith unto him,

Feed my sheep.

18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee,

When thou wast young,

thou girdedst thyself,

and walkedst whither thou wouldest:

but when thou shalt be old,

thou shalt stretch forth thy hands,

and another shall gird thee,

and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

19 This spake he, signifying

by what death he should glorify God.

And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him,

Follow me.”  John 21:15-19

Just like the shepherd of Psalm 23, Jesus called Peter to trust HIM as THE Great Shepherd, knowing that his LORD had already walked through that “valley of the shadow of death” and not only died, but rose from the dead, and sat alive with him on the shore.  Are you following your Shepherd or falling into “these”—and my “these” will probably look different than yours, but we must be willing to “love Jesus” more!  It requires a lot of devotion and commitment to follow Jesus when everything around is calling us to “go fishing”!  Will you choose to follow HIM or just fall into whatever comes your way?  Remember who stands in the gap for those of HIS own—JESUS!

“But this man,

because he continueth ever,

hath an unchangeable priesthood.

25 Wherefore he is able also to save them

to the uttermost

that come unto God by him,

seeing he ever liveth

to make intercession for them.”  HeHebrews 7:24-25

Amen and Amen!!!
