Bible Ballistics: Vol. 18 No. 11   Seizing Jesus, Or……???

“Wherefore

seeing we also are compassed about

with so great a cloud of witnesses,

let us lay aside

every weight,

and the sin

which doth so easily beset us,

and let us run

with patience

the race

that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus

the author

and finisher

of our faith;

who for the joy that was set before him

endured the cross,

despising the shame,

and is set down

at the right hand

of the throne of God.”   Hebrews 12:1-2

This is one of my favorite passages, for it is so chocked full of instructions that we can apply practically to our lives.  Hebrews 11 is nicknamed “The Hall of Faith” for it not only describes what faith “IS”—”the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”—it also tells us what ‘faith’ looks like in the lives of believers.  Yet, all the pictures aren’t the same, contrary to a lot of popular teaching; not everyone who is listed in this “Hall of Faith” was rich, not all were famous, some men, some women, children; and the last part of the chapter deals with those who suffered persecution, did without, died without fanfare but they loved their God, and HE found them faithful!  That’s what matters, not just what other people think of us!  While we are to care about and preserve our testimony, we are to do that by “looking unto Jesus”!  Why?  For a lot of reasons, but the author of Hebrews reminds us that Jesus IS the “author and finisher of our faith”—that’s reason enough!

That means more than just what HE did at Calvary, but also that it was God’s plan from “before the foundation of the world”—in other words, HE (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit) created us knowing that we would “sin” yet had already made a plan for our salvation that would cost “His only begotten Son” on a cruel Roman cross! All so that we could have life—abundant life here and eternal life with HIM later.  And in the interim (here on earth), we are instructed to remember those who set the examples that are mentioned in chapter 11, to “lay aside” the sin that trips us up, running our own race—the race that JESUS sets before us—with our eyes on the prize, JESUS!  All knowing the price that my salvation cost Jesus, with gratitude, love, and devotion to serve my KING!  The ONE who was “the plan” from “before the foundation of the world”!

“Blessed be the God and Father

of our Lord Jesus Christ,

who hath blessed us

with all spiritual blessings

in heavenly places

in Christ:

4 According as he hath chosen us

in him

before the foundation of the world,

that we should be holy

and without blame

before him

in love:

5 Having predestinated us

unto the adoption of children

by Jesus Christ

to himself,

according to the good pleasure

of his will,” Ephesians 1:3-5

What a joy and delight to know that HE chose you/me to be HIS children, it’s the only way to heaven! To seize JESUS and HIS substitutionary, atoning, sacrifice for our salvation!

“But as many as received him,

to them gave he power

to become the sons of God,

even to them

that believe on his name:

13 Which were born,

not of blood,

nor of the will of the flesh,

nor of the will of man,

but of God.”  John 1:12-13

Jesus is the joy of my heart, and I truly want to please HIM, yet I fail so miserably some days, but Praise His name, HIS grace is sufficient to make me more and more into HIS image, when I cling to HIM and HIS Word.

“And he that searcheth the hearts

knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,

because he maketh intercession

for the saints

according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things

work together for good

to them that love God,

to them who are the called

according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow,

he also did predestinate

to be conformed to the image

of his Son,

that he might be

the firstborn

among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate,

them he also called:

and whom he called,

them he also justified:

and whom he justified,

them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say

to these things?

If God be for us,

who can be against us?”  Romans 8:27-31

As we seek Jesus, we will find that others don’t always like what we’re doing, and not everyone who brags on you has your best interest at heart.  Not everyone who smiles, or seems to be listening to you, is necessarily really hearing what you have to share, or wanting to learn what God has called you to teach, or follow the Jesus that you follow.  And in our culture, believe me, everyone doesn’t follow the “biblical Jesus”—or HIS cross.  But we must keep our eyes on the prize—our Lord’s pleasure, His grace, and His glory when we seek HIM—not worldly popularity, or financial prosperity, or positive “press” coverage!  Where are my/your eyes?

“Brethren,

I count not myself to have apprehended:

but this one thing I do,

forgetting those things

which are behind,

and reaching forth

unto those things which are before,

14 I press toward the mark

for the prize

of the high calling of God

in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 3:13-14

What are we treasuring; seizing; focusing on?  Let’s press on together for our King Jesus!  HE is my Lord and King?  How about you?  Are we acting like it?  Let’s commit to “deny…self, and take up…(my) cross daily, and follow…(Jesus).”

Amen and Amen!!!

Not Necessarily Disposable!!! Bible Ballistics: Vol. 18 No. 10

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 18 No. 10   Not Necessarily Disposable!!!

We live in a disposable society!  Not only disposable (throw-away) plates, cups, utensils, diapers, toys, appliances but even babies, old people and the seemingly unwanted, unneeded and those that don’t meet the criteria of the world political scheme.  It saddens my heart to know that we have allowed, sometimes even welcomed, this cultural change; it grieves me that we want to save the puppies, the whales, the trees, but not our own offspring—the babies—whom we are offering up on the altar of convenience, fashion, and liberal ideology of personal entitlement to whatever pleases “ME” regardless of the cost to others!  The idea that we are to be the “caretakers” of the planet but not our own children (and yes, the unborn are children from the moment that they are conceived, worthy of the protection of all mankind, regardless of the political climate that prevails today) is appalling!

But there’s something else that I want us to consider in regard to disposability, and that is not only what we need to consider in regard to our offspring, but to every issue of life– God’s Word and its veracity, its import, and the influence we who believe it should have on a culture gone berserk (I don’t know what else to call a culture with the mindset that it has today!)! But I do know what God has called each and every believer to; and that is to follow Jesus and keep HIS Word as well as HIS words!

“Jesus answered them,

I told you,

and ye believed not:

the works that I do in my Father’s name,

they bear witness of me.

26 But ye believe not,

because ye are not of my sheep,

as I said unto you.

27 My sheep hear my voice,

and I know them,

and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life;

and they shall never perish,

neither shall any man pluck them

out of my hand.

29 My Father, which gave them me,

is greater than all;

and no man is able to pluck them

out of my Father’s hand.

30 I and my Father are one.”  John 10:25-30

Regardless of what the world believes or says about Jesus, HE IS GOD!  And yes, HE did say that HE was, is and ever shall be GOD, and that settles it whether you believe it or not.  There is a time coming when those who are HIS by faith through grace, will be eternally separated from the unbelievers. (See Eph. 2:8-10)

“And he that sat upon the throne said,

Behold, I make all things new.

And he said unto me,

Write:

for these words are true and faithful.

6 And he said unto me,

It is done.

I am Alpha and Omega,

the beginning

and the end.

I will give unto him that is athirst

of the fountain of the water of life freely.

7 He that overcometh

shall inherit all things;

and I will be his God,

and he shall be my son.

8 But the fearful,

and unbelieving,

and the abominable,

and murderers,

and whoremongers,

and sorcerers,

and idolaters,

and all liars,

shall have their part in the lake

which burneth

with fire

and brimstone:

which is the second death.”  Revelation 21:5-8

As if you need more evidence of what God has said about the unbelieving, let’s check out Revelation 20!

“And I saw a great white throne,

and him that sat on it,

from whose face the earth and the heaven

fled away;

and there was found no place for them.

12 And I saw the dead,

small and great,

stand before God;

and the books were opened:

and another book was opened,

which is the book of life:

and the dead were judged out of those things

which were written in the books,

according to their works.

13 And the sea gave up the dead

which were in it;

and death and hell

delivered up the dead

which were in them:

and they were judged

every man

according to their works.

14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.

This is the second death.

15 And whosoever was not found written

in the book of life

was cast into the lake of fire.”                       Revelation 20:11-15

Some of you may be saying, ‘Well, doesn’t that make ‘them’ “disposable”?”  Not exactly, for their torment will last for all eternity, in the “lake of fire” which is the permanent dwelling for all who reject Jesus, along with Satan, his angels, and the beast and false prophet of the “great tribulation”!  God said it—not me!

“And the devil that deceived them

was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone,

where the beast and the false prophet are,

and shall be tormented

day and night

for ever and ever.”  Revelation 20:10

You see, humans aren’t disposable—while we do die in our flesh, our souls live on forever, either in eternal bliss with God, through the substitutionary, atoning sacrifice of Jesus; or in eternal torment in the “lake of fire” with the devil and his angels!  And just FYI, the lake of fire wasn’t made for man, but for Satan and his fallen angels, but when man (Adam and Eve) sinned and died spiritually, they were doomed to share the same fate as the liar whom they had believed over God Almighty, but for Jesus!

“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand,

Depart from me,

ye cursed,

into everlasting fire,

prepared for the devil

and his angels:”  Matthew 25:41

So, what choice do we have?  We can choose to recognize Jesus as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords and bow before HIM as our own Lord and Savior, in repentance of our sin, and faith in the sacrifice that HE made to purchase our salvation, so that we can become one of the “whosoever believeth in him shall have everlasting life”!  It is your choice but choose wisely, there is a test!  The “word is nigh thee”—God’s Word, JESUS!  What will you do with HIM?  Even your choice isn’t disposable—you will live with the consequences of your choice for all of eternity!  Heaven or Hell—it’s your choice.  And saying you’re not ‘choosing’, IS choosing!

“But what saith it?

The word is nigh thee,

even in thy mouth,

and in thy heart:

that is, the word of faith,

which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth

the Lord Jesus,

and shalt believe in thine heart

that God hath raised him from the dead,

thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth

unto righteousness;

and with the mouth confession is made

unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith,

Whosoever believeth on him

shall not be ashamed.”  Romans 10:8-11

When You/I choose to follow Jesus, You/I have a purpose and a goal—to follow Jesus, or as the author of Hebrews says so clearly, Run YOUR Race, not anyone/everyone else’s.

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about

with so great a cloud of witnesses,

let us lay aside every weight,

and the sin which doth so easily beset us,

and let us run with patience

the race

that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus

the author and finisher

of our faith;

who for the joy that was set before him

endured the cross,

despising the shame,

and is set down

at the right hand

of the throne of God.”  Hebrews 12:1-2

Are you running YOUR race?  Are YOU “Looking unto Jesus”?  Are YOU relying on YOURself or “the author and finisher of (Y)our faith”?

Regardless of what our culture says, no person given life by God, in the womb or out, is disposable.  We need to value life, treasure each opportunity that God gives us to share Jesus with others, and follow our King, in our own lane.  I just want to say that I understand those who wander over into “other’s lanes” for we sometimes want to “solve” everyone’s problems; but my friends Jesus tells us clearly that we are to:

run with patience—don’t try to rush God—

the race—the specific race that Jesus has given us—

                not anyone else’s race—not MY JOB—

set before us—remember Jesus has hand-picked

— YOUR race—

     –Jesus sets it before YOU, no one else—

     — miss YOUR race—YOU miss a blessing—

Looking unto Jesus—

the author

and finisher

of our faith!!!

In a nutshell, “It’s ALL about JESUS”!  The cross couldn’t destroy HIM, the tomb couldn’t keep HIM in, He’s alive and coming again!

Jesus said it best!

“…I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:6.

Amen and Amen!!!

Keeping My Eyes On Jesus??? Bible Ballistics: BBs #763

Bible Ballistics: BBs #763   Keeping My Eyes On Jesus???

Back today with a word to encourage each of us, no matter the road we may be on.  When we determine to keep Jesus as the lens through which we view all of life, it will make our life more peaceful than we could imagine—not simple or easy, but we will find that perfect peace with God far outweighs anything the devil or the world can offer! I pray that Word of God will speak to our hearts this day, and that the peace of God will reign in your heart!

“Therefore being justified by faith,

we have peace with God

through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access

by faith

into this grace

wherein we stand,

and rejoice

in hope

of the glory of God.” Romans 5:1-2

I find such reassurance in this powerful revelation of truth that Paul so graciously shared by the power of the same Holy Spirit who dwells in each believer—but we must know it (by studying God’s Word) and stand confidently in what Jesus has accomplished for us and is ever working in and through our lives.  Remember that Jesus is ever praying for our spiritual success, for HE IS ALIVE—and praying for US!

“Wherefore he is able also

to save them to the uttermost

that come unto God by him,

seeing he ever liveth

to make intercession

for them.”  Hebrews 7:25

Not only are we to pray for one another, but we can stand fast knowing that our God, our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave HIS life for our salvation, is ever praying for you and me no matter the challenges we may be facing, the sorrow that we are trying to endure, or the uncertainty of the days before us—JESUS is praying for me and for you!  Always!

In that truth and surety, we can be at perfect peace no matter what we are facing; and we can learn to live in the contentment of What God is doing in our lives—simple but not always easy (in fact hardly ever easy—but greatly rewarding)!

“But godliness

with contentment

is great gain.

7 For we brought nothing into this world,

and it is certain

we can carry nothing out.

8 And having food and raiment

let us be therewith content.”  1 Timothy 6:6-8

Ouch!  Not exactly the message of the world in America; but it is God’s message for us today!  Not that we are to pursue indigence, but we are to learn contentedness as we pursue God rather than just wealth.  We can choose to be a scrooge or a sharing saint!  As one Bible translations says, “fixing our eyes on Jesus” is how we are to view the world!

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about

with so great a cloud of witnesses,

let us lay aside

every weight,

and the sin

which doth so easily beset us,

and let us run with patience

the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus

the author

and finisher

of our faith;

who for the joy that was set before him

endured the cross,

despising the shame,

and is set down at the right hand

of the throne of God.”  Hebrews 12:1-2

Jesus gave us the principle in the “model prayer” as He said something that applies to more than just “bread”:

 “Give us this day our daily…..”

 Wisdom, Work, Service, and our Attitude….

If we will but choose to know our Lord more and more, and draw near to HIM, we will always find HIM faithful and sufficient to our every need.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God.

Resist the devil,

and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God,

and he will draw nigh to you.

Cleanse your hands,

ye sinners;

and purify your hearts,

ye double minded.

9 Be afflicted,

and mourn,

and weep:

let your laughter

be turned to mourning,

and your joy

to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord,

and he shall lift you up.”  James 4:7-10

Amen and Amen!!!

Living In My Season??? Bible Ballistics: Vol. 17 No. 26

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 17 No. 26   Living In My Season???

“This is the day

which the LORD hath made;

we will rejoice

and be glad in it.”  Psalm 118:24

I am a ‘senior’ citizen, and while I can’t do, or go or produce like I once did, there are so many things that I can still do, and what I’d like to share today is that regardless of our season of life, we are called to “rejoice and be glad in it”!  But are we?  There are times when we can all be distracted by the “what if’s” and allow the enemy to steal our joy, by getting our attention onto the other person’s lane.  You remember the old saying, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence!”  And those of us who live in cattle country, whether we raise cattle or not, see those cows stretching their necks through the fence to get that “other” grass regardless of the grass that is in their own pasture.  The author of Hebrews deals with this very issue, let’s consider his counsel.

“Wherefore

seeing we also are compassed about

with so great a cloud of witnesses,

let us lay aside

every weight,

and the sin

which doth so easily beset us,

and let us run

with patience

the race that is set

before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus

the author

and finisher

of our faith;

who for the joy that was set before him

endured the cross,

despising the shame,

and is set down

at the right hand

of the throne of God.”   Hebrews 12:1-2

I love this passage, yet it is so often misunderstood as our being ‘cheered on in a great stadium’, when, in reality, it is a conclusion of chapter 11—the great ‘Hall of Faith’ chapter—which paints the amazing picture of faith through the ages.  A passage revealing those in prosperous circumstances as well as those who endured distress, torture, and even death for their faith.  Yet they kept on keeping on regardless of the circumstances or season they were called to endure.

We can learn so much from this brief passage about the seasons of life, and how we are to respond; I would like to simply share some insight from this great passage. Firstly, we are called to consider and learn from the faith of those who have gone before us, both those in near proximity as well as those long gone, as Hebrews 11 pictures.  To do that we must delve into the Word of God to know our God and those who have left us great examples of faith, strength, and courage; those who set examples of how to “lay aside” the sins, weights of life, and challenges which confront each of us daily—sometimes moment by moment!  God reminds us that we don’t have to be “beset” or thrown off track by these things; and while sin is almost always an issue, we can overcome it by “Looking unto Jesus”!  And no matter our season of life, Jesus is ever sufficient to lead, guide and provide for us, for HE has “been to Calvary” for us; and because HE endured every attack of Satan, sin, and life—yet without sin!

“For we have not an high priest

which cannot be touched

with the feeling of our infirmities;

but was in all points tempted

like as we are,

yet without sin.”  Hebrews 4:15

“Without sin”!  As the Southern Gospel song proclaims, “Oh, What A Savior” (written by Marvin P Dalton), I am so glad that He “endured the cross” for you and me—and because of HIS sacrifice we can run “the race that is set before us” with confidence no matter the time, season, trial, or temptation!  He accomplished our victory at Calvary!  Oh, how grateful I am, that my past is under the blood—forgiven–, my present is perfectly in HIS hands, regardless of the season of life I am in, and my future is secure in HIS victory of salvation accomplished at Calvary!

As Paul described it so beautifully, the sacrifice of Jesus, for you and me (If you would, the Gospel in a nutshell, and combined with John 3:16-19, all we need to know about what Jesus did, does and will do for us!) is DONE:

“Moreover, brethren,

I declare unto you

the gospel which I preached

unto you,

which also ye have received,

and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved,

if ye keep in memory

what I preached unto you,

unless ye have believed

in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you

first of all

that which I also received,

how that Christ died for our sins

according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried,

and that he rose again the third day

according to the scriptures:

5 And that he was seen of Cephas,

then of the twelve:”  1 Corinthians 15:1-5

His blood has bought and paid for my sin, and because I have come to HIM in repentance and faith, I can run this “race that is set before” me.  For you see, it is the race that Jesus has set before “ME”, and that HE has set before “YOU”—and while they are not in the same lane or course, the sufficiency isn’t yours or mine, but in the blood bought victory of Jesus Christ our Lord!  The Apostle John recorded it beautifully in the Revelation.

“And from Jesus Christ,

who is the faithful witness,

and the first begotten of the dead,

and the prince of the kings of the earth.

Unto him

that loved us,

and washed us from our sins

in his own blood,”  Revelation 1:5

Oh, praise HIS dear name—He did it all for you and me!  And HIS work isn’t seasonal—it is full time–permanent, regardless of time, age, season, troubles, or successes!  He has bought and paid for the victory!  I’m so glad that Jesus knew, knows, and will always know what I need—what you need—and where my lane and yours is going.  Just think of it, Samuel was called as a young child, Daniel as a teenager (and both of these young people served God into their 80’s/90’s)!  Then there’s Moses who didn’t really get started with His greatest work until he was 80!  And Jesus our Lord’s work was finished (by God’s design) at some 33 years!

So, my friends, it doesn’t matter our “season” of life, or ministry, or work, or leisure, or any other limitations that we may think are on our life and service, God has set our race, and HE simply calls us to run it with grace, power, faith, and dependence upon HIS all-sufficient power, to just keep running!  He doesn’t call us to be as speedy as our neighbor or friend, HE simply calls us to be faithful with what HE has given to us to be and do!  My race isn’t yours, nor yours mine!  We are called to keep our eyes “looking unto Jesus” not anyone else’s lane!

“Moreover

it is required in stewards,

that a man be found faithful.”  1 Corinthians 4:2

And as faithful stewards we are given access to our Lord for every need.

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest,

that is passed into the heavens,

Jesus the Son of God,

let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest

which cannot be touched

with the feeling of our infirmities;

but was in all points

tempted like as we are,

yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore

come boldly unto the throne of grace,

that we may obtain mercy,

and find grace to help

in time of need.”  Hebrews 4:14-16

And if I may simply add that no matter what you are facing, no matter the season of life, trial, struggle, success, power, or weakness you are “running” with, remember that God has you, HE has your race, HE is in that lane with you.  Look up my friend, run to that “throne of grace”, and press on!  WE WIN!!!  Amen and Amen!!!

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 17 No. 02  Choosing What To See???

I spoke recently at a ladies gathering to share my experiences of going through the murder of my daughter some sixteen months ago.  It’s not a pleasant story, but it is a story of hope and confidence in our God, and the fact that we can “stand fast in the evil day”!  It all comes down to knowing God through the Lord Jesus Christ and learning to see things through the lens of faith and a knowledge of God’s Word!  I can choose how I look at things and how I will respond to my circumstances.  I can choose to see things through eyes of faith in Jesus, or, as my former Pastor Brad McCoy used to say, “I can doubt, pout and drop out”!  It’s your choice, but choose wisely, there is a test!  I choose to proclaim with Paul:

“Who hath saved us, and called us

with an holy calling,

not according to our works,

but according to his own purpose and grace,

which was given us in Christ Jesus

before the world began,

10 But is now made manifest

by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ,

who hath abolished death,

and hath brought life

and immortality to light

through the gospel:

11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher,

and an apostle,

and a teacher of the Gentiles.

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things:

nevertheless I am not ashamed:

for I know whom I have believed,

and am persuaded

that he is able

to keep that

which I have committed

unto him

against that day.

13 Hold fast the form of sound words,

which thou hast heard of me,

in faith

and love

which is in Christ Jesus.”  2 Timothy 1:9-13

In fact, this is almost an addendum to what Paul reminded Timothy of in verse 7:

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;

but of power,

and of love,

and of a sound mind.”  2 Timothy 1:7

It’s interesting that the phrase “sound mind” can mean “right thinking”, for we can choose what we think, and it is imperative that we guard our hearts and minds, and think biblically.  How?

“Let this mind be in you,

which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God,

thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation,

and took upon him the form of a servant,

and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man,

he humbled himself,

and became obedient unto death,

even the death of the cross.”   Philippians 2:5-8

Even as Paul reminded the Galatians, we are to live a crucified life of humble reliance upon God, trusting to His sovereign control in all things—and while God never said all things would be good, HE did tell us that HE is working IN all things for our good.  Will we trust HIM in all things?  Will we die to self and live for, by and through the power that Jesus supplies?

“I am crucified with Christ:

nevertheless I live;

yet not I,

but Christ liveth in me:

and the life which I now live in the flesh

I live by the faith of the Son of God,

who loved me,

and gave himself for me.”  Galatians 2:20

But how do I live the crucified life? By the power of God and learning to control my thought life and the desires of our heart!

“Finally, brethren,

whatsoever things are true,

whatsoever things are honest,

whatsoever things are just,

whatsoever things are pure,

whatsoever things are lovely,

whatsoever things are of good report;

if there be any virtue,

and if there be any praise,

think on these things.

9 Those things,

which ye have both learned,

and received,

and heard,

and seen

in me, do:

and the God of peace

shall be with you.”   Philippians 4:8-9

We must understand that the battle will almost always begin in our mind—and while we can’t control what comes into our mind, I can control what I will permit to stay in my mind!  As a friend says, check the devil at the door (of your mind!)!  If he can’t pass the Philippians 4:8 test, give him the boot (so to speak).  Yield to God’s Spirit and find victory!

“But he giveth more grace.

Wherefore he saith,

God resisteth the proud,

but giveth grace unto the humble.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God.

Resist the devil,

and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God,

and he will draw nigh to you.

Cleanse your hands,

ye sinners;

and purify your hearts,

ye double minded.”  James 4:6-8

Paul gives us great advice for these spiritual battles of the mind!

“For though we walk in the flesh,

we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal,

but mighty through God

to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5 Casting down imaginations,

and every high thing

that exalteth itself

against the knowledge of God,

and bringing into captivity

every thought

to the obedience of Christ;”                                  2 Corinthians 10:3-5

The key is “bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”, and I would encourage you to commit Philippians 4:8-9 and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 to memory—they are invaluable assets to have in your “memory” bank!  They help us to keep our “seeing” straight, as we keep our “eyes” on Jesus, and as I’m often heard to say, keep looking up not around at the “lions”!

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about

with so great a cloud of witnesses,

let us lay aside every weight,

and the sin which doth so easily beset us,

and let us run with patience

the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus

the author and finisher of our faith;

who for the joy that was set before him

endured the cross,

despising the shame,

and is set down at the right hand

of the throne of God.”  Hebrews 12:1-2

As we keep our eyes “Looking unto Jesus”, we can know that HE hears, HE cares, and HE is ever providing all that we need.  Just as I could trust HIM in the tragic circumstance of December 19, 2019, you can trust HIM to ever supply your needs and comfort and encourage your heart, your mind, and your decisions!

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest,

that is passed into the heavens,

Jesus the Son of God,

let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest

which cannot be touched with the feeling

of our infirmities;

but was in all points tempted like as we are,

yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly

unto the throne of grace,

that we may obtain mercy,

and find grace to help

in time of need.”   Hebrews 4:14-16

Knowing that with Paul, we can boldly say:

“I can

do all things through Christ

which strengtheneth me…

… “19 But my God shall supply

all your need

according to his riches in glory

by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:13 & 19

I pray that you will “see” through God’s lenses, and not let your circumstances distract you from running “the race that is set before” YOU!  Remember it’s God who set your race and mine, and HE is always there for YOU, with YOU, and before you and behind you, if we will but heed HIS voice.  Do you have eyes that see?  I pray that you will!

“Hear now this, O foolish people,

and without understanding;

which have eyes, and see not;

which have ears, and hear not:” Jeremiah 5:21

Open our eyes Lord—to see YOU!

“And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said,

What will ye that I shall do unto you?

33 They say unto him, Lord,

that our eyes may be opened.”  Matthew 20:32-33

Amen and Amen!
