Follow The Leader???   A Word from THE WORD!!! #477

We all remember playing the child’s game of follow the leader; and everyone wanted to be the leader—some were creative, some were always trying to trip everyone up, some were stop and go, some were just confused and caused everyone to fall down.  Well, our world is much the same; there are “leaders” crying all around us ‘follow me’, I have the answer—the solution—something brand new—a way out of all your problems—the way to health—the way to wealth —the way to happiness!  Yet God is calling us to a different path; holiness is the call of God, and following Jesus is the only way to find it; and that way is to be born again through the “blood of the Lamb that cleanseth us from all sin”, and to pursue Jesus through God’s Word. (See 1 John 1:7)

“Jesus saith unto him,

I am

the way,

the truth, and

the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:6

“Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind,

be sober,

and hope to the end

for the grace that is to be brought

unto you

at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

14 As obedient children,

not fashioning yourselves

according to the former lusts

in your ignorance:

15 But as he which hath called you is holy,

so be ye holy

in all manner of conversation;

16 Because it is written,

Be ye holy;

for I am holy.

17 And if ye call on the Father,

who without respect of persons

 judgeth according to every man’s work,

pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

18 Forasmuch as ye know

that ye were not redeemed

with corruptible things,

as silver and gold,

from your vain conversation

received by tradition

from your fathers;

19 But with the precious blood

of Christ,

as of a lamb

without blemish

and without spot:”   1 Peter 1:13-19

Jesus hasn’t changed and neither have the rules!

“Jesus Christ

the same yesterday,

and to day,

and for ever.”  Hebrews 13:8

John recorded a lot about ‘following’ the leader, Jesus.  Let’s consider some of them, asking ourselves if we are truly following Jesus?  Is He my leader?  Or are all the other things of this world calling me away from my Lord and Shepherd—my Leader?

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying,

I am

the light of the world:

he that followeth me

shall not walk in darkness,

but shall have the light of life.”   John 8:12

“My sheep hear my voice,

and I know them,

and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life;

and they shall never perish,

neither shall any man pluck them

out of my hand.

29 My Father, which gave them me,

is greater than all;

and no man is able to pluck them

out of my Father’s hand.

30 I and my Father are one.”  John 10:27-30

As Jesus spoke these things, He was not well received, and we need to be prepared to face opposition when we speak His truth—for HE IS the “truth”!  He told us in advance what we would face!  Are you prepared by setting HIS Word as the priority for your life?

“These things I command you,

that ye love one another.

18 If the world hate you,

ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 If ye were of the world,

the world would love his own:

but because ye are not of the world,

but I have chosen you out of the world,

therefore the world hateth you.

20 Remember the word that I said unto you,

The servant is not greater than his lord.

If they have persecuted me,

they will also persecute you;

if they have kept my saying,

they will keep yours also.

21 But all these things will they do unto you

for my name’s sake,

because they know not him that sent me.”   John 15:17-21

Interestingly enough, John was the Apostle who survived all the others, yet he suffered great persecution; with all that, he was the one to whom the precious Leader and Lord gave the Revelation of Jesus!  Remember when you read and study the book of The Revelation, that it IS the revelation of “Jesus” not all the signs and wonders—it’s about our Leader!

In closing a message that Paul gave to his son-in-the-ministry, Timohty; a word that is timely for us. May we examine our life and ask God to help us truly realize whom we are following.  May Jesus be our focus each and every day.  God bless you to find the truths revealed in His Word by the precious Holy Spirit who indwells every genuine believer!  And note, you can’t “remember” anything that you haven’t yet “membered” (if you put it in, God will bring it out when you need it!)

“But the Comforter,

which is the Holy Ghost,

whom the Father will send in my name,

he shall teach you all things,

and bring all things

to your remembrance,

whatsoever I have said unto you.”  John 14:26

And Paul’s words again remind us that character matters—they should resemble The One we claim to be following! Let’s be known as those who are genuinely following our Leader, Jesus!

“For the love of money

is the root of all evil:

which while some coveted after,

they have erred from the faith,

and pierced themselves through

with many sorrows.

11 But thou, O man of God,

flee these things;

and follow after

righteousness, godliness, faith,

love, patience, meekness.”   1 Timothy 6:10-11

“Flee also youthful lusts:

but follow

righteousness, faith, charity, peace,

with them that call on the Lord

out of a pure heart.”  2 Timothy 2:22

I pray that this will be an encouragement and a blessing to you today.

Amen and Amen!!!

An Amazing Oxymoron??? Bible Ballistics: BBs #618

Bible Ballistics: BBs #618     An Amazing Oxymoron???

One of my favorite gospel hymns is “Amazing Grace” by John Newton, and while it is “old”, like me, it resounds with truth and hope; and yet this week as I was listening to it for the ‘umpty-dozeneth’ time, it struck me that this powerful song has a most amazing oxymoron, and it just gripped my heart and I’d like to share a few thoughts with you this morning that may speak to you as well.

I’d like to share the second verse with you and delve into its depths.

“T’was Grace

that taught my heart to fear

And Grace,

my fears relieved

How precious did

that grace appear

The hour I first believed.”

Have you ever recognized that it truly is God’s grace that brings us to “fear”—to see our sin and its consequence?  That’s Bible and it’ll preach!

“No man can come to me,

except the Father

which hath sent me

draw him:

and I will raise him up

at the last day.”   John 6:44

God is the One who convicts of sin, and without seeing our sin—without that “Grace that taught my heart to fear”, we have no need for The Savior, Jesus Christ The Lord!  But praise God He sent Jesus to be our substitutionary, atoning, sacrifice!  And it is the Holy Spirit of God who brings that conviction of sin to our hearts, without which we could never be born again into Jesus!

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth;

It is expedient for you that I go away:

for if I go not away,

the Comforter will not come unto you;

but if I depart,

I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come,

he will

reprove the world of sin,

and of righteousness,

and of judgment:

9 Of sin,

because they believe not on me;

10 Of righteousness,

because I go to my Father,

and ye see me no more;

11 Of judgment,

because the prince of this world

is judged.”  John 16:7-11

That very Spirit whom Jesus promised to send, is the One who opens our eyes to see our own sin, but the oxymoron is that HE is also the ONE who “my fears relieved”!  And that’s why we can rejoice and sing:

“How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed”!

And not only from that first moment but in every moment since, and in every moment that God grants me to serve Him in this world!  That my friends, is truly “Amazing Grace”!  God’s grace, and He is holding out that very grace to you today, if you don’t know Him yet.  And if you know HIM and are in a hard place, it is that same grace that will carry you through!  God is continually at work through that wonderful grace of Jesus, to not only save us unto Himself, but to conform us into HIS very image—bringing glory to God and accomplishing His purpose in our every step!

“For of him,

and through him,

and to him,

are all things:

to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”   Romans 11:36

And another of my favorite passages that I pray will bring you hope and encouragement today!

“For by grace

are ye saved

through faith; and that not of yourselves:

it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works,

lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship,

created

in Christ Jesus

unto good works,

which God hath before ordained

that we should walk

in them.”   Ephesians 2:8-10

And let me close with this thought; many in recent days have made comment regarding my ‘strong faith’, and I appreciate that, but we must understand and know that it’s not “my” faith that is the issue—the issue is The One in whom “my” faith is placed!  It’s the Amazing Savior who saved me many long years ago—The One who has picked me up time and time again.  The One who has walked with me when I was ‘up’, and The One who has walked with me when I was ‘down’!  The One who died that I might have “abundant life”.  And that “abundant life” is my hope, and confidence from and in The One, Jesus, to whom I belong.  And you can have that same life, faith, peace and grace if you will but call out to HIM and receive HIS peace!

“Peace I leave

with you,

my peace I give

unto you:

not as the world giveth,

give I unto you.

Let not your heart be troubled,

neither let it be afraid.”  John 14:26                                                 (Read the whole chapter)

So, I pray that God will speak to your heart that amazing, wonderful grace that Jesus died and rose again to provide for all who will come to Him in repentance and faith.  You are loved and prayed for, and that “Amazing Grace” will deliver you too!

Amen and Amen!
