Bible Ballistics: BBs #665 Except The Lord Builds???

“Except the LORD build the house,

they labour in vain

that build it:

except the LORD keep the city,

the watchman waketh

but in vain.

2 It is vain for you to rise up early,

to sit up late,

to eat the bread of sorrows:

for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

3 Lo, children are an heritage

of the LORD:

and the fruit of the womb

is his reward.

4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man;

so are children of the youth.

5 Happy is the man

that hath his quiver full of them:

they shall not be ashamed,

but they shall speak

with the enemies in the gate.”   Psalm 127:1-5

I would like us to consider the nature of our “building” activity; for it seems to me that we have become a nation of ‘independent’ builders—doing our own thing—rather than relying on the master builder—The Lord God Almighty!!!

The Psalmist tells us that when we don’t rely upon God’s work, and ‘do our own thing’, so to speak—it is vanity, and even when we set ‘the watchman’ it is vain, if we aren’t relying on God.  It reminds me of the picture that Jesus painted in Matthew 7 about the “wise man” in contrast to the “foolish man”!  The story implies that the houses looked the same on the outside, but the foundation makes the difference between success and failure (heaven and hell)!  If we build on “the rock of my salvation”, Jesus, we can stand fast, because our foundation, Jesus, is sure.

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings

of mine, and doeth them,

I will liken him unto a wise man,

which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell not:

for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings

of mine, and doeth them not,

shall be likened unto a foolish man,

which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell:

and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7:24-27

We are in a culture war today, and people are choosing to build on the sand—our world has bought the lies of the enemy, and unlike the Psalmist, we (as a nation) don’t want God’s hand in our “stuff”—our world/nation wants to build its own way (on the sand), to reject the ‘master builder’ and set the foxes to guard the hen house, so to speak.  And I find it most interesting how the Psalmist ties the blessing of children into the blessing and gifts of the “master builder”; and that is one of the core issues of the battle we are in today—the value of life; life for the unborn, the old, the infirmed.

I find it interesting that the “land of promise” here in America (and in other prosperous nations) has become the “land of greed’!  We have forgotten that our very own “Declaration of Independence”, didn’t promise wealth, ease, and the promotion of greed, but rather

“Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.

The opportunity to work and earn one’s success!  But when we leave God behind—or out completely—we will reap the consequences of our choices!  And I can’t help but believe that we are seeing the vanity of wrong choices all around us!  But my friends, we must stop ignoring the problem and seek our God’s face—His convicting move amongst us—the repentance of God’s people—and the restoration of the ‘light’ and ‘salt’ of HIS people!  After all, remember, that ‘revival’ is for God’s people; and when we will get right with our God, great and mighty things can happen as a result.

In closing, I would simply like to share some words from the scripture for us to ponder!

“Seek ye the LORD

while he may be found,

call ye upon him

while he is near:

7 Let the wicked forsake his way,

and the unrighteous man his thoughts:

and let him return unto the LORD,

and he will have mercy upon him;

and to our God,

for he will abundantly pardon.

8 For my thoughts

are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways

my ways, saith the LORD.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher

than your ways,

and my thoughts

than your thoughts.”  Isaiah 55:6-9

“For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion,

and as a young lion to the house of Judah:

I, even I,

will tear

and go away;

I will take away,

and none shall rescue him.

15 I will go and return to my place,

till they acknowledge their offence,

and seek my face:

in their affliction

they will seek me early.”   Hosea 5:14-15

Even Jesus told the people of His day to repent!

“There were present at that season some

that told him of the Galilaeans,

whose blood Pilate had mingled

with their sacrifices.

2 And Jesus answering said unto them,

Suppose ye that these Galilaeans

were sinners above all the Galilaeans,

because they suffered such things?

3 I tell you, Nay:

but, except ye repent,

ye shall all likewise perish.

4 Or those eighteen,

upon whom the tower in Siloam fell,

and slew them,

think ye that they were sinners

above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?”  Luke 13:1-5

And as we have seen quoted regularly, may we truly hear what God is saying.

“If my people,

which are called by my name,

shall humble themselves,

and pray,

and seek my face,

and turn from their wicked ways;

then will I hear from heaven,

and will forgive their sin,

and will heal their land.”   2 Chronicles 7:14

God has spoken, He is speaking—if we will but receive His call—and He will accomplish His purpose through HIS SON Jesus Christ our Lord!  HE is coming again!

“And being found in fashion as a man,

he humbled himself,

and became obedient unto death,

even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him,

and given him a name

which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow,

of things in heaven,

and things in earth,

and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue

should confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory

of God the Father.”   Philippians 2:8-11

Amen and Amen!!!

Relying On HIS Cross??? Bible Ballistics: Vol. 15 No. 14

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 15 No. 14  Relying On HIS Cross???

“For the word of God is

quick,

and powerful,

and sharper than any twoedged sword,

piercing even to the dividing asunder

of soul and spirit,

and of the joints and marrow,

and is a discerner

of the thoughts

and intents

of the heart.

13 Neither is there any creature

that is not manifest

in his sight:

but all things

are naked

and opened

unto the eyes of him

with whom

we have to do.”  Hebrews 4:12-13

It is God who will judge, and HIS Word will be the standard of judgment—in all things, for all people, without appeal!  God (And His written Word as well as Jesus, the living Word!) is the final Word, and there will be no other standard that we can use to excuse our sin.  Every person’s judgment will be by The Word of God; not social media, memes, groups crying for “this” cause or “that” cause; so, we must be careful whom we follow; we must be careful of the groups and causes that we align ourselves with.  We need to do our ‘homework’, so to speak, and investigate what/who we are aligning ourselves with; we need to know their goals and motives, and if they say one thing yet have ulterior motives; we need to choose wisely.  And one of the things that we need to check out is there stand toward God (for many who purport to stand for ‘godly’ causes, are in essence against the God of the Bible), His Word, and His beloved Israel.  For God set that standard many years ago.

“Now the LORD had said unto Abram,

Get thee out of thy country,

and from thy kindred,

and from thy father’s house,

unto a land that I will shew thee:

2 And I will make of thee a great nation,

and I will bless thee,

and make thy name great;

and thou shalt be a blessing:

3 And I will bless them

that bless thee,

and curse him

that curseth thee:

and in thee shall all families

of the earth

be blessed.”   Genesis 12:1-3

May we never promote what God abhors!  Jesus also addressed this issue of wisdom and discernment, something that most today don’t want to hear.

“Beware of false prophets,

which come to you in sheep’s clothing,

but inwardly

they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them

by their fruits.

Do men gather grapes

of thorns,

or figs

of thistles

17 Even so every good tree

bringeth forth good fruit;

but a corrupt tree

bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree

cannot bring forth evil fruit,

neither can a corrupt tree

bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not

forth good fruit

is hewn down,

and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore

by their fruits

ye shall know them.”   Matthew 7:15-20

It seems these days that people don’t want wisdom or discernment, just to go “viral” on social media!  It doesn’t have to be true just popular.  What are you measuring your life by?  By God’s Word or by the world’s memes?  I am called to follow Jesus and the prayer of my heart is that I will be found faithfully doing His will, His way; that I will always be sharing the truth that God has called me to—the gospel of Jesus Christ, crucified, risen and coming again.  There is no other message that I have been called to share!  I have to join Paul and his proclamation of singularity!  Only One way—Only One message—Only One song—Only One focus—Jesus Christ the substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for sin.  I am forgiven and transformed by the blood of the Lamb, who takes away the “sin of the world”!

As John the baptizer said:

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith,

Behold the Lamb of God,

which taketh away

the sin of the world.”   John 1:29

As Paul told the Corinthians, it is faith alone in Christ alone!

“For Christ sent me not to baptize,

but to preach the gospel:

not with wisdom of words,

lest the cross of Christ should be

made of none effect.

18 For the preaching of the cross

is to them that perish

foolishness;

but unto us which are saved

it is the power of God.”  1 Corinthians 1:17-18

“And I, brethren, when I came to you,

came not with excellency of speech

or of wisdom,

declaring unto you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know any thing

among you,

save Jesus Christ,

and him crucified.

3 And I was with you

in weakness,

and in fear,

and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching

was not with enticing words

of man’s wisdom,

but in demonstration

of the Spirit

and of power:

5 That your faith should not stand

in the wisdom of men,

but in the power of God.”   2 Corinthians 2:1-5

Jesus is our only hope; yet it’s not just words but our deeds what will reveal whose we are…for it is by our works that we show whose we are!  We aren’t saved by our works, but we are saved to do “good works”!  What do your works say about you/me?  When we are born again by the Spirit of God, we are born again “unto good works” by God’s grace through faith!

“For by grace are ye saved

through faith;

]and that not of yourselves:

it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works,

lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship,

created in Christ Jesus

unto good works,

which God hath before ordained

that we should walk

in them.”   Ephesians 2:8-10

Remember, our accounting will be not only before God, but by HIS standard—The Word of God–for both the saved and the lost!

“For it is written,

As I live,

saith the Lord,

every knee shall bow

to me,

and every tongue shall confess

to God.

12 So then every one of us

shall give account

of himself

to God.”   Romans 14:11-12

And as John records for us in the Revelation, there is a reckoning coming.

“And I saw a great white throne,

and him that sat on it,

from whose face the earth and the heaven

fled away;

and there was found no place for them.

12 And I saw the dead,

small and great,

stand before God;

and the books were opened:

and another book was opened,

which is the book of life:

and the dead were judged

out of those things

which were written in the books,

according to their works.

13 And the sea gave up the dead

which were in it;

and death and hell

delivered up the dead

which were in them:

and they were judged

every man

according to their works.

14 And death and hell

were cast into the lake of fire.

This is the second death.

15 And whosoever was not found written

in the book of life

was cast into the lake of fire.”  Revelation 20:11-15

So, my question for today is what are you relying on?  Jesus or the popular “viral” issues of the day.  With whom have you aligned yourself?  Are you depending on your words (or the words of others) or the blood of The Lamb?  Are you being faithful to Him or to something or someone else?  Only you can answer that question but remember there is a test.

“Not every one that saith unto me,

Lord, Lord,

shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;

but he that doeth the will

of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day,

Lord, Lord,

have we not prophesied

in thy name?

and in thy name

have cast out devils?

and in thy name

done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them,

I never knew you:

depart from me,

ye that work iniquity.”   Matthew 7:21-23

Jesus gives us a clear example of this principle in His story of the houses, yet we so often write it off as a meaningless children’s song.  But your choice will determine your destiny!  Are you building on the rock or the sand?

“Therefore

whosoever heareth these sayings of mine,

and doeth them,

I will liken him unto a wise man,

which built his house

upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell not:

for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings

of mine,

and doeth them not,

shall be likened unto a foolish man,

which built his house

upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell:

and great was the fall of it.”  Matthew 7:24-27

I pray that you will be wise and discerning while there is still time.  Don’t forget just because it’s on the internet (or TV, or cell phone, or any other media), doesn’t make it necessarily true.  But God’s Word is always true!  Today, tomorrow and forever!  Dig into HIS Word with confidence!!!

“Jesus Christ

the same yesterday,

and to day,

and for ever.”   Hebrews 13:8

And may I simply say that if I don’t join your groups, don’t take it personally—I’ve already joined Jesus, and he is the King of my heart—my priority and His work comes first!

Amen and Amen!!!

Born Again, Built on the Rock or the Sand?, Jesus Is The Answer, John 1:11-13, Matthew 7:24-27, Truth

Bible Ballistics: BBs #620      What Are You Sitting On???

I’d like to take some time today to call each of us to examine ourselves to see what we are counting on.  What foundation have you laid for your life.  As an old adage says, “Every pot sits on its own bottom!”  I’ve often heard it said that, “There are no grandchildren in heaven”—simply meaning each individual must be born again themselves, you won’t get in on mother’s or grandmother’s coattails!  We can’t count on someone else to get us to heaven.  John chapter one tells us there is only one way to God/heaven and that’s to become “sons of God” by being born again!

“He came unto his own,

and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him,

to them gave he power

to become the sons of God,

even to them

that believe on his name:

13 Which were born,

not of blood,

nor of the will of the flesh,

nor of the will of man,

but of God.”  John 1:11-13

The main thing I want us to ponder today is, what have you/I done with Jesus?  Are you resting on HIS foundation—the foundation of the sacrifice of His death, burial, and resurrection for sin—or are you sitting on sinking sand? (See 1 Cor 15:1-6)

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine,

and doeth them,

I will liken him unto a wise man,

which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell not:

for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine,

and doeth them not,

shall be likened unto a foolish man,

which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell:

and great

was the fall of it.”  Matthew 7:24-27

We often miss the import of this precious passage that Jesus taught, and write it off to a cute little children’s song; but this is the import of life—what have you done with Jesus.  Have you heard His Word and rejected it, and built on the sinking sand?  The parable here implies that both houses looked alike on the outside, but the foundation will tell the tale.  We can fool other people, we can fool our friends, we can even fool our parents, you may even be fooling yourself—but you can’t fool God!  And the foundation will reveal itself when the trials come—the storms of life—and they will come!  Jesus doesn’t say “if they come”—but “when they come”!

So, the question we need to consider today can make the difference between life and death; sinking or standing; knowing Jesus and walking in His strength and power, or your own.  The choice is yours but choose wisely there is a test!  And there is a storm on the way!   What are you standing/sitting on?  I pray that you are standing on the Rock of Ages—Jesus!

Amen and Amen!!!

Come To Worship??? Bible Ballistics: Vol. 12 No. 17

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 12 No.17   Come To Worship HIM???

“And they sung a new song, saying,

Thou art worthy to take the book,

and to open the seals thereof:

for thou wast slain,

and hast redeemed us to God

by thy blood

out of every kindred,

and tongue,

and people,

and nation;

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests:

and we shall reign on the earth.

11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice

of many angels

round about the throne

and the beasts

and the elders:

and the number of them was

ten thousand times ten thousand,

and thousands of thousands;

12 Saying with a loud voice,

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain

to receive power,

and riches,

and wisdom,

and strength,

and honour,

and glory,

and blessing.” Revelation 4:9-12

This is the song of praise that is lifted up when The Lamb of God (“who takes away the sin of the world”) takes the “book/scroll” that will initiate the culmination of God’s plan for the ages. Jesus, The Lamb, takes the book and receives this praise, glory and honor that only God is worthy to receive! But then, Jesus is God, and worthy of our praise and worship. Even as Jesus was coming into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, and the crowds were praising Him as the “King” who had come in ‘The Name of The Lord’, and the religious leaders rebuked Him for receiving this praise, He declared His worthiness to receive worship and glory! And worship actually comes from an old English word meaning “worth-ship”. And HE truly is worthy of worship!

“Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. 39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him,

Master,

rebuke thy disciples.

40 And he answered and said unto them,

I tell you that,

if these should hold their peace,

the stones

would immediately

cry out.” Luke 19:38-40

Jesus was in conflict with these leaders during most of His earthly ministry, even though He revealed truth to them time and time again, but they didn’t want to receive HIM or HIS testimony of being The Messiah. Yet God had confirmed His deity throughout His mission of salvation, and not once did God rebuke anyone who “worshipped” HIM!

“I am the LORD:

that is my name:

and my glory

will I not give to another,

neither my praise

to graven images.

9 Behold, the former things are come to pass,

and new things do I declare:

before they spring forth

I tell you of them.

10 Sing unto the LORD

a new song,

and his praise

from the end of the earth,

ye that go down to the sea,

and all that is therein;

the isles,

and the inhabitants thereof.”   Isaiah 42:8-10

Jesus, contrary to a lot of teaching going around today, did proclaim Himself to be God—God the Son—who had come to accomplish the work of salvation, which The Father sent Him to do.

“And she shall bring forth a son,

and thou shalt call his name JESUS:

for he shall save his people

from their sins.

22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

23 Behold,

a virgin shall be with child,

and shall bring forth a son,

and they shall call his name

Emmanuel,

which being interpreted is,

God with us.”    Matthew 1:21-23

Jesus was, “God with us”, who came to “save his people from their sins”, and we are made “his people” by faith in His substitutionary, atoning, sacrifice which saves people “from their sins”! Oh, how grateful we are for the “Amazing Grace” that God extends to all who will believe in Jesus, and receive the new birth of salvation, and the “Spirit of God”, who teaches us what real worship is. The same picture that Jesus reveled to the woman at the Well of Sychar—the first person on record to hear Jesus directly proclaim His deity as The Messiah!!!

“But the hour cometh,

and now is,

when the true worshippers

shall worship the Father

in spirit

and in truth:

for the Father seeketh such

to worship him.

24 God is a Spirit:

and they that worship him

must worship him

in spirit

and in truth.

25 The woman saith unto him,

I know that Messias cometh,

which is called Christ:

when he is come,

he will tell us all things.

26 Jesus saith unto her,

I that speak unto thee

am he.”   John 4:23-26

Jesus is worthy of our worship because HE is “spirit” and “truth”! He IS God!

“My sheep hear my voice,

and I know them,

and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life;

and they shall never perish,

neither shall any man

pluck them out of

my hand.

29 My Father,

which gave them me,

is greater than all;

and no man is able to pluck them

out of my Father’s hand.

30 I and my Father are one.

31 Then the Jews took up stones again

to stone him.” John 10:27-31

Jesus clearly proclaimed Himself to be “God”! And notice, not only did they want to stone Him, but also it wasn’t the first time, they “took up stones again to stone him”! But why did they want to stone Him, many say that they didn’t understand, but the scripture tells us different:

“33 The Jews answered him, saying,

For a good work we stone thee not;

but for blasphemy;

and because that thou,

being a man,

makest thyself God.” John 10:33

Instead of those multitudes that fall down and worship Him in Revelation 5, these leaders refused to receive the truth, and accused Jesus (the very Savior they said they were looking for) of blasphemy—they truly had, as Jesus told them again and again, no desire to perceive truth!

“Therefore speak I to them in parables:

because they seeing

see not;

and hearing

they hear not,

neither do they understand.

14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias,

which saith,

By hearing

ye shall hear,

and shall not understand;

and seeing

ye shall see,

and shall not perceive:

15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross,

and their ears are dull of hearing,

and their eyes they have closed;

lest at any time they should see

with their eyes,

and hear

with their ears,

and should understand

with their heart,

and should be converted,

and I should heal them.”    Matthew 13:13-15

Jesus wants us to receive Him and know Him and His Father in the new birth so that we can truly be those who “worship him in spirit and in truth”! We can actually receive the “righteousness of God” which enables us to know Him and walk with Him as a “new creation”—all by the power of His indwelling Holy Spirit; for without Jesus and His Spirit we cannot truly worship in “spirit” or “truth”.

“So then they that are in the flesh

cannot please God.

9 But ye are not in the flesh,

but in the Spirit,

if so be that the Spirit of God

dwell in you.

Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ,

he is none of his.” Romans 8:8-9

And how do we acquire this “spirit”? Only by faith in the Son’s sacrifice for our sin, and by faith the very presence of “The Spirit of Christ”, who is the confirmation of our salvation. It is also by HIS power and direction that we can truly worship in “Spirit and Truth” knowing the very presence of our Lord. Even as Jesus said:

“I am the vine,

ye are the branches:

He that abideth in me,

and I in him,

the same bringeth forth much fruit:

for without me ye can do nothing.”   John 15:5

When we receive Him, He is IN us, and we are IN Him, and God is conforming us into the image of His Son, affecting change in us, which will in turn affect those around us.

“For he hath made him

to be sin for us,

who knew no sin;

that we might be made

the righteousness

of God

in him.”   2 Corinthians 5:21

As we saw in Revelation 5, He bought and paid for our salvation, and makes us children of God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit! (See John 1:12-14)

“for thou wast slain,

and hast redeemed us to God

by thy blood”

And contrary to popular belief, there aren’t many ways to God—only ONE—the ONE who shed HIS blood for us!!!

“Jesus saith unto him,

I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but

by

me.”   John 14:6

That IS why HE is worthy of our praise, worship and obedient service! How are you worshipping God, in Spirit and truth, or with lip service only? You may be able to fool others, but as my mother used to say, “You can fool some of the people all the time, and you can fool all of the people some of the time, but you can never fool God!” Are you walking “in the Spirit” or “the flesh”? It will tell, for you must possess (and be possessed by) the Holy Spirit or you are not HIS (Look above at Romans 8:9).

“This I say then,

Walk in the Spirit,

and ye shall not fulfil the lust

of the flesh……..

24 And they that are Christ’s

have crucified the flesh

with the affections and lusts.

25 If we live in the Spirit,

let us also walk in the Spirit.”   Galatians 5:16 & 24-25

Are we singing His praises on Sunday, yet living in direct opposition to His Word the other 6 days of the week? That, my friends, is not true worship—no Spirit—no Truth—it’s not worship. Simply put, worship is living life, by The Spirit, in obedience to The One whom we claim as Lord. Jesus made this very clear in Matthew 7.

“Wherefore by their fruits

ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me,

Lord,

Lord,

shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;

but he that doeth the will

of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say

to me

in that day,

Lord, Lord,

have we not prophesied in thy name?

and in thy name have cast out devils?

and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess

unto them,

I never knew you:

depart from me,

ye that work iniquity.”   Matthew 7:20-23

Are you living a life that “says,” “Lord, Lord” but acts out “Me, Me”? The closing of Jesus message in Matthew 7, puts the icing on the cake—it’s not how your life appears to the world, but what your foundation consists of—Jesus, the rock, or the sand of the world. You may have everyone fooled, but the storms will come and will reveal the truth, no matter how “pretty” your house appears on the outside! This simple example implies that both houses looked alike until the storms came—and they will come! What about YOU?

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings

of mine,

and doeth them,

I will liken him unto a wise man,

which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell not:

for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings

of mine,

and doeth them not,

shall be likened unto a foolish man,

which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell:

and great was the fall of it.”   Mathew 7:24-27

So what we find here are two men, each one built a house, and chose the foundation; one chose the “rock” as his foundation, the other chose the “sand” for his foundation, it was easier, it was quicker, it was cheaper, and besides no one would see what foundation he had! But our choices will always bring their own consequences, for the storms will come. Jesus didn’t say, “if the storms came”, He said they “came”—maybe not today, or tomorrow but they will come! And the foundation that you have chosen will be revealed, for the consequence will follow the choice!

“Be not deceived;

God is not mocked:

for whatsoever a man soweth,

that shall he also reap.

8 For he that soweth to his flesh

shall of the flesh reap corruption;

but he that soweth to the Spirit

shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

9 And let us not be weary

in well doing:

for in due season

we shall reap,

if we faint not.” Galatians 6:7-9

I think Paul’s message here parallels what Jesus said about our choice of the road we follow, and our choice of a ‘life’ road will determine our destiny—both the living of it as well as our eternal destiny.

“Enter ye in at the strait gate:

for wide is the gate,

and broad is the way,

that leadeth to destruction,

and many there be

which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate,

and narrow is the way,

which leadeth unto life,

and few there be

that find it.” Matthew 7:13-14

So as we are surrounded by the seasonal things of Christmas, may we truly be like the “Wise Men” and worship HIM not the trappings! They gave—they didn’t seek gifts!

“Saying,

Where is he that is born King of the Jews?

for we have seen his star in the east,

and are come to worship him……..

11 And when they were come into the house,

they saw the young child

with Mary his mother,

and fell down,

and worshipped him:

and when they had opened their treasures,

they presented unto him gifts;

gold,

and frankincense,

and myrrh.” Matthew 2:2 & 11

Have you “come to worship HIM”, or have you come to be worshipped? The choice is ours, may we choose wisely, for there is a test at the end. Is our life a sacrifice of praise and worship before Him, or are we too busy taking care of self! May our praise and worship be genuine and offered in Spirit and Truth, to HIM who “is born King of the Jews”? Don’t let the glitter and the busyness of the season rob you of the joy of true worship of our soon-coming KING! May we hear Him say “well done, thou good and faithful servant” not “I never knew you….depart from me”?

“By him therefore

let us offer the sacrifice of praise

to God

continually,

that is,

the fruit of our lips

giving thanks to his name.

16 But to do good

and to communicate

forget not:

for with such sacrifices

God is well pleased.” Hebrews 13:5-6

Amen and Amen!!!

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 12 No. 12   The Greatest Evangelist???

God saves and equips His children when they are born again to do the unique, and special tasks that HE has given to each one. Paul reminded the Ephesian believers that the work of ministry is NOT just for the pastors, teachers and evangelists—it is for all of us.

“But unto every one of us is given

grace

according to the measure

of the gift of Christ…..

11 And he gave

some, apostles;

and some, prophets;

and some, evangelists;

and some, pastors

and teachers;

12 For the perfecting

of the saints,

for the work

of the ministry,

for the edifying

of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come

in the unity of the faith,

and of the knowledge

of the Son of God,

unto a perfect man,

unto the measure

of the stature

of the fulness of Christ:

14 That we henceforth

be no more children,

tossed to and fro,

and carried about

with every wind

of doctrine,

by the sleight of men,

and cunning craftiness,

whereby they lie in wait

to deceive;

15 But speaking the truth in love,

may grow up into him

in all things,

which is the head,

even Christ:

16 From whom the whole body

fitly joined together

and compacted

by that which every joint supplieth,

according to the effectual

working

in the measure

of every part,

maketh increase of the body

unto the edifying

of itself

in love.”   Ephesians 4:7 & 11-16

Paul told the Ephesians that our goal should be for the “increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love”; we are to work together through the leaders (Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers (or pastor-teachers) whom God has given to the church. So that we can each grow and affect edification and increase (Not necessarily numbers but in maturity, growth and power in The Lord and His Word!) amongst the believers “in love”! The leaders are called and given to the church for:

“For the perfecting

of the saints,

for the work

of the ministry,

for the edifying

of the body of Christ”!

Leaders aren’t called to “do the work” but to raise up the believers to become “mature”, to “minister” and to “edify”! We have all been called to live our faith—to serve and sacrifice for the Lord—not pick our “pew” and “soak and sour”! But on to the main focus of our post today, which is the gift of ‘evangelist’ that Paul mentions in this passage, yet from a passage that might surprise you. When we think of evangelists we think of those preachers who go from place to place calling the church to spiritual renewal and revival, and the lost to salvation. And when the church gets right with God—the lost will be drawn to the Savior! This is a lengthy passage, but one that is worth our consideration!

“There was a certain rich man,

which was clothed in purple

and fine linen,

and fared sumptuously every day:

20 And there was a certain beggar

named Lazarus,

which was laid at his gate,

full of sores,

21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs

which fell from the rich man’s table:

moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died,

and was carried by the angels

into Abraham’s bosom:

the rich man also died,

and was buried;

23 And in hell he lift up his eyes,

being in torments,

and seeth Abraham afar off,

and Lazarus in his bosom.

24 And he cried and said,

Father Abraham, have mercy on me,

and send Lazarus,

that he may dip the tip of his finger

in water,

and cool my tongue;

for I am tormented

in this flame.

25 But Abraham said, Son, remember

that thou in thy lifetime

receivedst thy good things,

and likewise Lazarus

evil things:

but now he is comforted,

and thou art tormented.

26 And beside all this,

between us and you

there is a great gulf fixed:

so that they which would pass from hence

to you cannot;

neither can they pass to us,

that would come from thence.

27 Then he said,

I pray thee therefore, father,

that thou wouldest send him

to my father’s house:

28 For I have five brethren;

that he may testify unto them,

lest they also come

into this place of torment.

29 Abraham saith unto him,

They have Moses

and the prophets;

let them hear them.

30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham:

but if one went unto them

from the dead,

they will repent.

31 And he said unto him,

If they hear not Moses

and the prophets,

neither will they be persuaded,

though one rose from the dead.”  Luke 16:19-31

Before we take off on the “greatest evangelist”, let’s look at the last thing that is recorded of this story—and I believe this is a true story, rather than a parable, for Jesus never called anyone by name in a ‘parable’—“neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead”! We need to remember that Jesus is facing the cross, and He will lay down His life on the cross, and be raised from the dead on the 3rd day—yet most wouldn’t believe in Him even though:

“...how that Christ died for our sins

according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried,

and that he rose again

the third day

according to the scriptures:

5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:”                                     1 Corinthians 15:3-5

The Gospel is Jesus—crucified, buried, raised again, all for our salvation and the forgiveness of our sin! So what about the evangelist in the passage from Luke? Well, who is the one who is asking for the warning to be taken to his family? The rich man in hell—the greatest evangelist of all time—yet now as then, most aren’t listening to his warning. He wanted Father Abraham to send Lazarus back to earth to preach the gospel to his family that they would avoid his destiny. So if you are one of those who have laughed off “hell” by saying you wanted to join your friends there and “party-hearty”, you need to think again. Here we have “eye-witness” testimony of one who is there—and ‘it ain’t no party’ and other than the relief from his own torment, his desire was that his family would trust God and not join him in ‘hell’ (or technically “Hades”—the temporary place of the lost dead, not the lake of fire, hell)!

Yet notice the response:

“If they hear not Moses

and the prophets,

neither will they be persuaded,

though one rose from the dead”!

If they won’t receive the truth that is in front of them, they won’t believe even when ‘one’ rose from the dead—not even when ‘The One’ rose from the dead! That was true two thousand years ago, and it is still true today. There are no second chances after death, and we are choosing today whom we will believe! And refusing to trust Jesus, is deciding! Doing things your own way is choosing! This rich man chose every day to go his own way—just as the church in Laodicea in the book of the Revelation, he was totally satisfied with his own self-sufficiency! How about you? Are you putting Jesus off—waiting for a more opportune time—for whatever reason? There is no guarantee of tomorrow—not for Lazarus (the poorest of the poor), not for the rich man (the richest of the rich), not for you or me! But choosing can only be done in this life! But just as Paul told the Philippians:

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10

That at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow,

of things in heaven,

and things in earth,

and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.”    Philippians 2:10-11

The time is coming when “every knee” shall bow before Jesus! The question isn’t “if” you will bow, but “when” will you bow! Will you bow before Him now as your Lord and Savior, or will you bow before Him as your “judge” with no opportunity for salvation and redemption. The choice is yours, but choose wisely—there is a test at the end.

“And as it is appointed unto men

once to die,

but after this

the judgment:”   Hebrews 9:27

So my question is, “Will you bow before Jesus now and receive His grace, mercy and redemption? Or will you refuse His grace and have to face Him as your judge?” And if you know Him, won’t you join me and commit to being a better “evangel” (A bearer of the good tidings of redemption through Jesus’ sacrifice for our sin!) of the good news that delivers from sin, death, and hell and gives us everlasting life with Jesus!

“(For he saith,

I have heard thee in a time accepted,

and in the day of salvation

have I succoured thee:

behold, now is the accepted time;

behold, now is the day of salvation.)”   2 Corinthians 6:2

Every person will bow—with saving grace or without! May we be great evangels in “this” life not ineffectual ones in death and hell? Remember it’s not what your house looks like to the world—but where your foundation is set! Is it built on the rock or on the sand? The house may not show it until the storms come—and they will come—but God knows!

“Therefore whosoever heareth

these sayings of mine,

and doeth them,

I will liken him unto a wise man,

which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell not:

for it was founded

upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth

these sayings of mine,

and doeth them not,

shall be likened unto a foolish man,

which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell:

and great was the fall of it.”   Matthew 7:24-27

May God grant you wisdom and grace to see His truth and trust in HIM each day—no matter the storm? Today is all we have!

“But exhort one another daily,

while it is called To day;

lest any of you be hardened

through the deceitfulness of sin.”   Hebrews 3:13

Amen and Amen!
