As I hear and see things going on around us, I have to be careful to keep my “eyes on Jesus” and remember that GOD is absolutely in control; yet, I often see all the wickedness, evil and lies and I cry with the saints “under the altar” (a reference to those martyred for The Lord, in my opinion) those gone on before us who saw the same evil that we are seeing today.  How can I say that, you might ask?  Well, I can say that right from God’s Word!

“And when he had opened the fifth seal,

I saw under the altar

the souls of them that were slain

for the word of God,

and for the testimony

which they held:

10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying,

How long, O Lord,

holy and true,

dost thou not judge

and avenge

our blood

on them that dwell

on the earth?

11 And white robes were given

unto every one of them;

and it was said unto them,

that they should rest yet

for a little season,

until their fellowservants also

and their brethren,

that should be killed as they were,

should be fulfilled.”   Revelation 6:9-11

Without being trite, we need to understand that the book of The Revelation is the revealing (the unveiling) of Jesus Christ The Lord and how HE will accomplish HIS purpose on the earth and will judge all those who refuse to receive HIM and the salvation HE died to purchase.  As I read through this book, and teach it often, I see again and again the progression of the hearts of men who refuse God’s gift of salvation; and it takes me back to John chapter 3 (and remember John wrote both books, plus 1, 2, & 3 John).

“For God so loved the world,

that he gave

his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him

should not perish,

but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son

into the world

to condemn the world;

but that the world

through him

might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him

is not condemned:

but he that believeth not

 is condemned already,

because he hath not believed

in the name

of the only begotten

Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation,

that light is come into the world,

and men loved darkness

rather than light,

because their deeds were evil.”  John 3:16-19

Men, women, boys, and girls are choosing every day to refuse the savior without recognizing the cost to their souls, their lives, and their loved ones.  Jesus made it clear that we refuse HIM, because:

“men loved darkness

rather than light,

because their deeds were evil”

We only have this life, however long or short it may be, to accept the gift of God.  Isaiah the prophet said the same thing, even as Solomon warned us that nothing is new around us—we may try to change the name, dress it up in fresh style, or make the bling shinier—but the truth is, it’s the same “pig” with a bath, but it’s still a “pig” or a lie from the devil!

“Have ye not known?

have ye not heard?

 hath it not been told you

from the beginning?

have ye not understood

from the foundations of the earth?

22 It is he

that sitteth upon the circle of the earth,

and the inhabitants thereof

are as grasshoppers;

that stretcheth out the heavens

as a curtain,

and spreadeth them out

as a tent to dwell in:…

….yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth:

and he shall also blow upon them,

and they shall wither,

and the whirlwind shall take them away

as stubble.

25 To whom then will ye liken me,

or shall I be equal?

saith the Holy One.

26 Lift up your eyes on high,

and behold who hath created these things,…

….. 27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob,

and speakest, O Israel,

My way is hid from the LORD,

and my judgment is passed over

 from my God?

28 Hast thou not known?

hast thou not heard,

that the everlasting God,

the LORD,

the Creator of the ends of the earth,

fainteth not,

neither is weary?

there is no searching

of his understanding.”   Portions of Isaiah 40:21-28

God has given us JESUS, we must choose what we will do with HIM, HIM who is God’s gift of salvation by HIS death, burial, and resurrection for our sin!  And remember that saying you “won’t choose” is choosing, for there is an accounting coming, both Paul and John tell us about it.

“And being found in fashion as a man,

he humbled himself,

and became obedient unto death,

even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him,

and given him a name

which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow,

of things in heaven,

and things in earth,

and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.”  Philippians 2:80-11

The question isn’t “will you bow”, for you will bow, according to God’s Word!  The question is, “when will you bow?”! You can bow before Jesus as Lord in this life, or you will bow before HIM as your judge in “that day” with no opportunity for salvation!

As Jesus told Nicodemus, “Ye must be born again”:

“Jesus answered and said unto him,

Verily, verily, I say unto thee,

Except a man be born again,

he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him,

How can a man be born when he is old?

can he enter the second time

into his mother’s womb,

and be born?

5 Jesus answered,

Verily, verily, I say unto thee,

Except a man be born

of water

and of the Spirit,

he cannot enter

into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh

 is flesh;

and that which is born of the Spirit

is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.”  John 3:3-7

The Apostle John reminds us that we will all give an account to the God we have rejected if we aren’t born again!

“And I saw a great white throne,

and him that sat on it,

from whose face the earth

and the heaven

fled away;

and there was found no place for them.

12 And I saw the dead,

small and great,

stand before God;

and the books were opened:

and another book was opened,

which is the book of life:

and the dead were judged

out of those things which were written

in the books,

according to their works.

13 And the sea gave up the dead

which were in it;

and death and hell

delivered up the dead which were in them:

and they were judged

every man according to their works.

14 And death and hell

were cast into the lake of fire.

This is the second death.

15 And whosoever was not found written

in the book of life

was cast into the lake of fire.”  Revelation 20:11-15

My friends, I pray that you will hear the voice of Jesus calling to you today.  If you are HIS, that you will not only trust Him for your salvation but obey HIM with your life!  If you don’t know Jesus, I invite you to repent of your sin, to see sin as sin, to turn from it TO JESUS trusting to HIS substitutionary (He died in your place), atoning (HE paid for your sin debt, which earns death and hell without Jesus!), sacrifice (HE willingly laid down HIS life for your sin and mine, dying that we might live with HIM eternally!) offered to you, if you will but hear HIS voice, and see how much HE loves you.

“Behold,

I stand at the door,

and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.

21 To him that overcometh

will I grant to sit with me

in my throne,

even as I also overcame,

and am set down with my Father

in his throne.”  John 3:20-21

May you hear with your ears, and see with your eyes, and receive Jesus into your heart and life!  And then you can walk with HIM and talk with HIM and hear HIM remind you that YOU belong to JESUS—now and for eternity!

Bible Ballistics: BBs #731 Blow Up Or Bow Down???

 

Whether we like it or not, crises come into our lives, usually when we least expect them; but our God is faithful, and HE never says “oops”!  I’m so glad—yet I want to talk about our responses to crises, for we have options, and two of those are to “blow up” and pitch a “hissy fit” (southern for a real fit!), or to “bow” before our Lord and seek HIS face for the wisdom, grace and strength to “stand fast in the evil day”!

“Beloved,

think it not strange concerning the fiery trial

which is to try you,

as though some strange thing

happened unto you:

13 But rejoice,

 inasmuch as ye are partakers

of Christ’s sufferings;

that, when his glory shall be revealed,

ye may be glad also

with exceeding joy.”  1 Peter 4:12-13

James also encourages us to realize that trials are a part of life—especially the life of God’s children!

“My brethren,

count it all joy

when ye fall into divers temptations;

3 Knowing this,

that the trying of your faith

worketh patience.

4 But let patience have her perfect work,

that ye may be perfect and entire,

wanting nothing.”  James 1:2-4

James goes on to advise us as to what we ought to do when we don’t understand, leading us to achieve the maturity that he mentions (perfect –is referring to spiritual maturity, not sinless ‘perfection’!).

“If any of you lack wisdom,

let him ask of God,

that giveth to all men liberally,

and upbraideth not;

and it shall be given him.

6 But let him ask in faith,

nothing wavering.

For he that wavereth

is like a wave of the sea

driven with the wind

and tossed.”  James 1:5-6

Are we blowing up—being tossed and driven by the winds of life?  Or are we seeking God’s face for strength and wisdom to persevere?

So many are preaching an “easy life” gospel which falsely tells people that “if you have enough faith”, “if you name it and claim it” it will happen, but God’s Word tells us that “the servant is not greater than his Lord”; and our Lord suffered for “Being” right as well as “Doing” right and He told us that we should expect the same!  Ouch!  Not a popular perspective or message, but it is truth!

James gives us another principle for dealing with our trials, and trouble—not a very popular answer in our culture—yet it is God’s answer; to recognize that GOD is still GOD and I “am not”!

“Humble yourselves

in the sight of the Lord,

and he shall lift you up.”  James 4:10

When we recognize that God is God, and we are not, we can bow ourselves before HIM, knowing that HE is ever working for HIS glory and our good; even when we don’t see it or understand it!

“Let the wicked forsake his way,

and the unrighteous man his thoughts:

and let him return unto the LORD,

and he will have mercy upon him;

and to our God,

for he will abundantly pardon.

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways,

saith the LORD.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways,

 and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow

from heaven,

and returneth not thither,

but watereth the earth,

and maketh it bring forth and bud,

that it may give seed to the sower,

and bread to the eater:

11 So shall my word be

that goeth forth out of my mouth:

 it shall not return unto me void,

but it shall accomplish that

which I please,

and it shall prosper in the thing

whereto I sent it.”  Isaiah 55:7-11

Blow up or bow down?  The choice is yours, but if you will see and acknowledge that GOD is GOD and seek His face, “he will have mercy”!  God’s mercy is here for you and me, but we must seek HIM while HE may be found.  Today is what we have—what will you do with it?

“(For he saith, I have heard thee

in a time accepted,

and in the day of salvation

have I succoured thee:

behold, now is the accepted time;

behold, now is the day of salvation.)”.  2 Corinthians 6:2

Consider the contrast between David and Saul, who each received rebuke from The Lord, yet had two different responses.  Saul was busy “doubting, pouting and dropping outing”, while David humbled himself before God and accepted the discipline of God in his life.  Which one will you emulate (copy)?

“And David said unto Nathan,

I have sinned against the LORD.

And Nathan said unto David,

The LORD also hath put away thy sin;

thou shalt not die.”  2 Samuel: 12:13

Saul in contrast:

“But now thy kingdom shall not continue:

the LORD hath sought him a man

after his own heart,

and the LORD hath commanded him

to be captain over his people,

because thou hast not kept that

which the LORD commanded thee…

… 11 It repenteth me that I have set up Saul

to be king:

for he is turned back

from following me,

and hath not performed my

commandments.

And it grieved Samuel;

and he cried unto the LORD all night…

.19 Wherefore then didst thou not obey

the voice of the LORD,

 but didst fly upon the spoil,

and didst evil

in the sight of the LORD?

20 And Saul said unto Samuel,

Yea, I have obeyed

the voice of the LORD…

…. 22 And Samuel said,

Hath the LORD as great delight

in burnt offerings and sacrifices,

as in obeying

the voice of the LORD?

Behold, to obey

is better than sacrifice,

and to hearken

than the fat of rams.

23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,

and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.

Because thou hast rejected

the word of the LORD,

he hath also rejected thee

from being king.”   1 Samuel 13:14 & 15:11 & 19-23

The choice is yours; will you offer “sacrifices” unto God and refuse to obey (I encourage you to read the full account of Saul and Samuel in chapters 12-16)?  Or will you confess, repent and receive God’s forgiveness, cleansing and restoration?  Choose wisely, there is a test.

“If we confess our sins,

he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,

and to cleanse us

from all unrighteousness.”  1 John 1:9

May we hear HIS voice today and respond? Amen!!!

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 17 No. 03  Walking By HIS Power???

 

“Yea,

though I walk through the valley

of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil:

for thou art with me;

thy rod

and thy staff

they comfort me.”  Psalm 23:4

I have a short message to share with you today—with you and me—for it is by HIS provision that we have overcoming power!  And we can overcome, even in desperate times, and difficult circumstances.  “Our God Reigns!”  God promised victory even to those in the coming days of “the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth”!  Will you walk by HIS power or your own!

“And they overcame him

by the blood of the Lamb,

and by the word of their testimony;

and they loved not their lives

unto the death.”   Revelation 12:11

How do I walk in overcoming power?  By the power of my Lord Jesus Christ; who can give to you that same power as well, but it is only found in HIM, and His substitutionary, atoning sacrifice at Calvary; as we recognize and lay down our own sin and rebellion believing in The One who gave HIS own life for ours—to give us HIS Spirit to dwell within us, giving us hope and power to live “abundant” lives.

“Then said Jesus unto his disciples,

If any man

will come after me,

let him deny himself,

and take up his cross,

and follow me.

25 For whosoever will save his life

shall lose it:

and whosoever will lose his life

for my sake

shall find it.

26 For what is a man profited,

if he shall gain the whole world,

and lose his own soul?

or what shall a man give

in exchange for his soul?

27 For the Son of man shall come

in the glory of his Father

with his angels;

and then he shall reward every man

according to his works.”  Matthew 16:24-27

Abundant life in this world and in eternal glory with our Lord in heaven.

“I am the door:

by me if any man enter in,

he shall be saved,

and shall go in and out,

and find pasture.

10 The thief cometh not,

but for to steal,

and to kill,

and to destroy:

I am come that they might have life,

and that they might have it more abundantly.

11 I am the good shepherd:

the good shepherd giveth his life

for the sheep.”  John 10:9-11

Will you be one of HIS sheep, or will you choose your own way?  It’s your choice, but what Jesus gives is more than abundant—it is life-giving hope, and joy and peace!  I have seen what HE can and will do for those who will choose to follow HIM!  Won’t you reach out for this strength and power to walk in victory and not defeat.  I may be weary, tired and confused from time to time, but my eyes are set on Jesus and HE ever holds my hand.  I can “be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might…” because of the price HE paid for my salvation!  HE is worth my love, adoration and devotion—won’t you join me.

“Finally, my brethren,

be strong

in the Lord,

and in the power

of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God,

that ye may be able to stand

against the wiles

of the devil.”  Ephesians 6:10-11

WE WIN, because HE won the victory at Calvary!

“Now this I say, brethren,

that flesh and blood cannot inherit

the kingdom of God;

neither doth corruption inherit

incorruption.

51 Behold, I shew you a mystery;

We shall not all sleep,

but we shall all be changed,

52 In a moment,

in the twinkling of an eye,

at the last trump:

for the trumpet shall sound,

and the dead shall be raised incorruptible,

and we shall be changed.

53 For this corruptible

must put on incorruption,

and this mortal

must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible

shall have put on incorruption,

and this mortal

shall have put on immortality,

then shall be brought to pass the saying

that is written,

Death is swallowed up in victory.

55 O death, where is thy sting?

O grave, where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death

is sin;

and the strength of sin

is the law.

57 But thanks be to God,

which giveth us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ.”                      1 Corinthians 15:50-57

Praise be to God! As my precious friend Bro. Scott would say:  GLORY, GLORY, GLORY!  And I say Amen!

“To God only wise,

be glory

through Jesus Christ

for ever. Amen.”  Romans 16:27a

“Whether therefore

ye eat,

or drink,

or whatsoever ye do,

do all to the glory of God.”  1 Corinthians 10:31\

In one of the most humbling of all passages, Paul’s message to the Philippian church; we are to “let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” humble obedience!

“And being found in fashion as a man,

he humbled himself,

and became obedient unto death,

even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him,

and given him a name

which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow,

of things in heaven,

and things in earth,

and things under the earth;

Will you “bow” so that you can stand in abundant victory?  Will you choose to walk in the power and victory of Jesus?  Will you follow God’s Word or your own will?  It’s your choice, but choose wisely, there is a test.

“Therefore being justified by faith,

we have peace with God

through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access

by faith into this grace

wherein we stand,

and rejoice in hope

of the glory of God.”                  Romans 5:1-2

Bible Ballistics: BBs #652   What Are YOU Doing With Sin???

 

Sin is not a word that most want to think about, much less talk about today; yet it is the pivotal principal of God’s amazing grace to those who will come to HIM. This is not only important; it is absolutely imperative for people to respond to God’s call to salvation; for unless we recognize that we are sinners we will never have a need for a Savior.  I want to share what God’s Word says about sin with you.

“Blessed is he

whose transgression is forgiven,

whose sin is covered.

2 Blessed is the man

unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity,

and in whose spirit there is no guile.”   Psalm 32:1-2

Jesus is the only solution to the sin issue—he took care of it for all who will believe.

“Giving thanks unto the Father,

which hath made us meet

to be partakers

of the inheritance of the saints

in light:

13 Who hath delivered us

from the power of darkness,

and hath translated us

into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14 In whom we have redemption

through his blood,

even the forgiveness of sins:”  Colossians 1:12-14

Jesus paid the price for our sin, redeeming (to buy back from sin, death and hell) us back to Himself, forgiving our sin, by His blood.  What are you doing with your sin?

“For all have sinned,   

and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely

by his grace

through the redemption

that is in Christ Jesus:

25 Whom God hath set forth

to be a propitiation through faith

in his blood,

to declare his righteousness

for the remission of sins

that are past,

through the forbearance of God;

26 To declare, I say,

 at this time

his righteousness:

that he might be just,

and the justifier

of him which believeth

in Jesus.”  Romans 3:23-26

And Paul goes on in Romans to show our need for this “redemption that is in Christ Jesus”:

“For the wages of sin

is death;

but the gift of God

is eternal life

through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Romans 6:23

We are all sinners by birth and by choice, but God has made provision for our salvation—Jesus–the only way to God!

“For God so loved the world,

that he gave

that whosoever believeth in him

but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world

to condemn the world;

but that the world through him

might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him

is not condemned:

but he that believeth not

is condemned already,

because their deeds were evil.”   John 3:16-19

The question is relatively simple— “Have you chosen to believe in Jesus, or do you love “darkness rather than light”?  I pray that you will consider Jesus!  He is the only way to God.

“Jesus saith unto him,

 I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:6

May you choose wisely—I pray that you will hear His voice and respond in repentance and faith.  And while you may fool others—you can’t fool God!

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 13 No. 26  How Far Is Too Far???

 

My heart is heavy with the burden of the world that we live in, and yet even more, that those who claim the name of Jesus have accepted the world’s philosophy and lies over the truth of God’s Word and claim that it’s “OK”!  According to God’s Word—t’ain’t so!  While these are subjects to broach with humility and compassion, I believe that they are subjects that need to be addressed.

“This know also,

that in the last days

perilous times shall come.

2 For men shall be lovers

of their own selves,

covetous,

boasters,

proud,

blasphemers,

disobedient to parents,

unthankful,

unholy,

3 Without natural affection,

trucebreakers,

false accusers,

incontinent,

fierce,

despisers

of those that are good,

4 Traitors,

heady,

highminded,

lovers of pleasures

more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness,

but denying the power thereof:

from such turn away.”   2 Timothy 3:1-5

This list is pretty self-explanatory, even to the point of being something that could describe most front-pages of our news any day!  Yet what does this have to do with me/you/us?  A lot, I think, for we are there; yet many who claim to belong to Jesus, don’t seem to be recognizing it as such, but rather joining in with the world and adjusting The Word to meet their lifestyle choices, rather than ordering their “steps in Thy Word”. God has never changed—His character, His Word, or His call to salvation!  Jesus is still The Only Way—and His way will always align with The Word of God!

 “Jesus Christ

the same yesterday,

and to day,

and for ever.”  Hebrews 13:8

When we come to Jesus—who never changes—HE makes a change in us; and The Word confirms that when we are ‘born again’ we are changed from the inside out—not one who works their way to heaven.  (See Colossians 1:12-14)

“Therefore

if any man be in Christ,

he is a new creature:

old things are passed away;

behold,all things are become new.

18 And all things are of God,

who hath reconciled us to himself

by Jesus Christ,

and hath given to us the ministry

of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ,

reconciling the world

unto himself,

not imputing their trespasses

unto them;

and hath committed unto us

the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then we are ambassadors

for Christ,

as though God did beseech you by us:

we pray you in Christ’s stead,

be ye reconciled to God.

21 For he hath made him

to be sin for us,

who knew no sin;

that we might be made

the righteousness

of God

in him.”  2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Jesus came to save us “from” our sins, and while we must come “just as” we are, God never leaves us as we are—He is working to conform us to the image of His Son. Salvation reconciles us to God, changing us from the enemies of God to His own child.

“And we know that all things

work together for good

to them that love God,

to them who are the called

according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow,

 he also did predestinate

to be conformed

to the image of his Son,

that he might be the firstborn

among many brethren.”   Romans 8:28-29

“And she shall bring forth a son,

and thou shalt call his name JESUS:

for he shall save his people

from their sins.”  Matthew 1:21

And when we are saved from our sins, we are made a “new creature” in Jesus, and God says His own won’t be left to ‘their own’ devices without His guiding hand, and His eternal work of redemption and sanctification in our lives.  Jesus disciplines His own, and if we don’t’ experience His work and discipline in our life, we better check out what we think saved us!

“And ye have forgotten the exhortation

which speaketh unto you as unto children,

My son,

despise not thou the chastening of the Lord,

nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

6 For whom the Lord loveth

he chasteneth,

and scourgeth

every son

whom he receiveth.

7 If ye endure chastening,

God dealeth with you

as with sons;

for what son is he whom the father

chasteneth not?

8 But if ye be without chastisement,

whereof all are partakers,

then are ye bastards,

and not sons.

9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh

which corrected us,

and we gave them reverence:

shall we not much rather

be in subjection unto the Father of spirits,

and live?

10 For they verily for a few days chastened us

after their own pleasure;

but he for our profit,

that we might be partakers of his holiness.

11 Now no chastening for the present

seemeth to be joyous,

but grievous:

nevertheless afterward

it yieldeth the peaceable fruit

of righteousness

unto them

which are exercised thereby.”   Hebrews 12:5-11

The fruit of righteousness comes from God’s ‘training’ work in our lives, all to conform us into the image of Jesus Christ His Son.  And yet, I hear all around us of those who claim to be “Christians” and yet are continually “denying the power thereof”. I heard of an instance recently where a popular television program had two professing Christians on it (a reality show of sorts) and when one called the other to avoid immorality, he was rebuked and told that his opinion wasn’t valid –that God will forgive immorality when we ask, and that’s all that is important!  WRONG!  Yes, God will forgive when we seek His forgiveness, but it requires a repentant heart, a recognition of sin as sin, and not an arrogant refusal to accept God’s standard of life and morality but accepting the world’s standard while rejecting God’s truth!

“If we confess our sins,

he is faithful

and just

to forgive us our sins,

and to cleanse us

from all unrighteousness.

10 If we say that we have not sinned,

we make him a liar,

and his word is not in us.”   1 John 1:9-10

Jesus tells us that just ‘saying’ so doesn’t ‘make it’ so.  Are you talking a good talk, but living a different way?  How far have we been led astray, how far have you/I gone afield from God?  We must return to the “narrow road” if we truly belong to Jesus.  Jesus said it best; ask His words to truly speak to your heart!

“Enter ye in at the strait gate:

for wide is the gate,

and broad is the way,

that leadeth to destruction,

and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate,

and narrow is the way,

which leadeth unto life,

and few there be that find it.

15 Beware of false prophets,

which come to you in sheep’s clothing,

but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits.

Do men gather grapes of thorns,

or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree

bringeth forth good fruit;

but a corrupt tree

bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit,

neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit

is hewn down,

and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits

ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me,

Lord, Lord,

shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;

but he that doeth the will of my Father

which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day,

Lord, Lord,

have we not prophesied in thy name?

and in thy name have cast out devils?

and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them,

I never knew you:

depart from me,

ye that work iniquity.”  Matthew 7:13-23

Just like Jesus continued on, we can have a house built on the rock–Jesus, or we can settle for a house that looks good but is built on the sand of the world.  So, remember, when the storms come–and they will come—the foundation determines the outcome!

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them,

I will liken him unto a wise man,

 which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

 and beat upon that house;

and it fell not:

for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not,

shall be likened unto a foolish man,

which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell:

and great was the fall of it.”   Matthew 7:24-27

Paul paints a wonderful word picture of our new relationship with God—and it’s not a relationship that minimalizes sin, or covers sin up, or calls wrong right, or right wrong.  Yet just as Paul told Timothy, those “perilous times” have come, we are surrounded by a world that proclaims a ‘modern gospel’ that is false, they have a “form of godliness, but denying the power thereof”!  They don’t want life-changing, transforming salvation that Jesus offers, but they simply want a “get out of hell free” card, that “cheap grace” that Dietrich Bonhoeffer talked about almost 100 years ago.

“Therefore being justified by faith,

we have peace with God

 through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access by faith

into this grace

wherein we stand,

and rejoice in hope

of the glory of God.

3 And not only so,

but we glory in tribulations also:

knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

4 And patience, experience;

and experience, hope:

5 And hope maketh not ashamed;

because the love of God

is shed abroad in our hearts

 by the Holy Ghost

which is given unto us.

6 For when we were yet without strength,

in due time Christ died

for the ungodly.

7 For scarcely for a righteous man

will one die:

yet peradventure

for a good man some

would even dare to die.

8 But God commendeth his love

toward us, in that,

while we were yet sinners,

Christ died for us.

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood,

we shall be saved from wrath

through him.

10 For if, when we were enemies,

we were reconciled to God

by the death of his Son,

much more,

being reconciled,

we shall be saved

by his life.

11 And not only so,

but we also joy in God

through our Lord Jesus Christ,

by whom we have now received

the atonement.”  Romans 5:1-11

And two final passages that I want to leave with you, are the quintessential revelation of God’s perspective on sin; passages that many reject today, but nonetheless, are still God’s truth, and I will simply list them here for you to ponder.  God’s opinion is the opinion that will matter. (See Hebrews 4:12-13 — God’s Word will be the defining Word of judgment!)

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:

for it is the power of God

unto salvation to every one that believeth;

to the Jew first,

and also to the Greek.

17 For therein is the righteousness of God

revealed from faith to faith:

as it is written,

The just shall live by faith.

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven

against all ungodliness and unrighteousness

of men, who hold the truth

 in unrighteousness;

19 Because that which may be known of God

is manifest in them;

for God hath shewed it unto them.

20 For the invisible things of him

from the creation of the world

are clearly seen,

being understood by the things that are made,

even his eternal power and Godhead;

so that they are without excuse:

21 Because that, when they knew God,

they glorified him not as God,

neither were thankful;

but became vain in their imaginations,

and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise,

they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God

into an image made like to corruptible man,

and to birds,

and fourfooted beasts,

and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up

to uncleanness

through the lusts of their own hearts,

to dishonour their own bodies

between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God

into a lie,

and worshipped and served the creature

more than the Creator,

who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up

unto vile affections:

for even their women did change

the natural use into that

which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men,

leaving the natural use of the woman,

burned in their lust

one toward another;

men with men

working that which

is unseemly,

and receiving in themselves

that recompence of their error

which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God

in their knowledge,

God gave them over

to a reprobate mind,

to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness,

fornication,

wickedness,

covetousness,

maliciousness;

full of envy,

murder,

debate,

deceit,

malignity;

whisperers,

30 Backbiters,

haters of God,

despiteful,

proud,

boasters,

inventors of evil things,

disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers,

without natural affection,

implacable,

unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God,

that they which commit such things

are worthy of death,

not only do the same,

but have pleasure

in them that do them.”   Romans 1:16-32

And lastly:

“Know ye not that the unrighteous

shall not inherit the kingdom of God?

Be not deceived:

neither fornicators,

nor idolaters,

nor adulterers,

nor effeminate,

nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

10 Nor thieves,

nor covetous,

nor drunkards,

nor revilers,

nor extortioners,

shall inherit the kingdom of God.

11 And such were some of you: (past tense)

but ye are washed,

but ye are sanctified,

but ye are justified

 in the name of the Lord Jesus,

and by the Spirit of our God.”   1 Corinthians 6:9-11
