You Can Have Peace??? A Word from THE WORD!!! #197

There is conflict all around us; in our hearts, the home, the work place, our schools, our government, in areas all around the world.  So what do we do?  We run to our safe place—in a Christian’s life, that’s Jesus, our strong tower, and He’s here for you!

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower:

the righteous runneth into it,

and is safe.”  Proverbs 18:10

I thank God for the strong tower that our precious Lord Jesus IS!  How sad that so many people, even believers, forget, neglect or just plain ignore the “peace that passeth all understanding” (See Philippians 4:7), and carry their own load.  I encourage you to look to The Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ The Risen Lord, who can supply your every need (especially the ones that you don’t know you have!). Jesus promised to ‘yoke up’ with us—to carry the load with us!  Oh, blessed Redeemer, thank you for that gift of your presence as well as your peace.

“All things are delivered unto me

of my Father:

and no man knoweth the Son,

but the Father;

neither knoweth any man the Father,

save the Son,

and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

28 Come unto me,

all ye that labour

and are heavy laden,

and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you,

and learn of me;

for I am meek and lowly in heart:

and ye shall find rest

unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy,

and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:27-30

But where do we find His peace?  Only one place!  At the cross where Jesus shed His blood for our salvation—providing “peace with God” to all who will believe in HIM, as well as deliverance from the wrath that will be poured out on sin one day!  I can’t help but believe that day is sooner than we may think!  Are you ready to meet Jesus?  He gave His life so we could have that peace!  You can know Jesus and receive that peace or reject Him and be at enmity with God—both now and for eternity.

“Therefore being justified by faith,

we have peace with God

through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access by faith

into this grace wherein we stand,

and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

3 And not only so,

but we glory in tribulations also:

knowing that tribulation

worketh patience;

4 And patience,

experience;

and experience,

hope:

5 And hope maketh not ashamed;

because the love of God

is shed abroad in our hearts

by the Holy Ghost

which is given unto us.

6 For when we were yet without strength,

in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

7 For scarcely for a righteous man

will one die:

yet peradventure for a good man

some would even dare to die.

8 But God commendeth his love toward us,

in that, while we were yet sinners,

Christ died for us.

9 Much more then,

being now justified by his blood,

we shall be saved from wrath

through him.

10 For if, when we were enemies,

we were reconciled to God

by the death of his Son,

much more,

being reconciled,

we shall be saved by his life.

11 And not only so,

but we also joy in God

through our Lord Jesus Christ,

by whom we have now received

the atonement.”  Romans 5:1-11

We who are born sinners (which is everyone), can only receive this “Peace with God” in Jesus Christ The Son by repentance of our sin and faith in HIS substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for our salvation.  Have you found that peace?  If you have, then depend upon it and stop fretting (I struggle with this too, as I tell people, I’m so good at fretting, it’s hard to let go, but in Jesus we can), for in Jesus we can have success today walking by faith!

If you know Jesus, then keep your eyes on the prize (Jesus) rather than the chaos around us.  If you don’t know Him yet, you can; call upon Him today while He can be found.  If you hear His voice, open the door, He will come in!

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock:

if any man hear my voice, and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20

Amen and Amen!!!

Prayed Up Or Made Up???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #175

I want us to change up today and look at the import of prayer.  We are called to be men and women of prayer and its place in our life will reveal itself in our everyday actions and interactions. There are so many things to consider, and we will find that our choices do make a difference.  Let’s take some time first of all to see what scripture tells us about prayer.

“Pray

without ceasing.

18 In every thing

give thanks:

for this is the will of God

in Christ Jesus

concerning you.

19 Quench not the Spirit.”  1 Thessalonians 5:17-19

God’s will for us is to pray “without ceasing”, to “give thanks” and to “Quench not the Spirit”; now that doesn’t mean I close my eyes driving down the highway to pray, but that my heart is ever sensitive to the voice and work of The Spirit of Jesus in recognizing His urging to pray for a specific thing or person even if I don’t know why?  It means that I am to be yielded continually to the work of The Holy Spirit and not reject it, ignore it, or discount the truth of HIS work in me/you!  Quenching the Holy Spirit’s work in us isn’t limited to willfully denying His direction but can be as simple as writing His prompting off to unimportant, or I’ll get it later, or even I can’t do that.  It’s going my way instead of paying attention to God’s working in me, leading me.

Jesus’ instruction to His disciples was simple but of great import; and it seems they missed the import—as we often do as well.

“Then saith he unto them,

My soul is exceeding sorrowful,

even unto death:

tarry ye here, and watch with me…

…. 40 And he cometh unto the disciples,

and findeth them asleep,

and saith unto Peter,

What,

could ye not watch with me one hour?

41 Watch and pray,

that ye enter not into temptation:

the spirit indeed is willing,

but the flesh is weak…

….. 43 And he came and found them asleep again:

for their eyes were heavy.

44 And he left them, and went away again,

and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

45 Then cometh he to his disciples,

and saith unto them,

Sleep on now,

and take your rest:

behold, the hour is at hand,

and the Son of man is betrayed

into the hands of sinners.”  Portions of Matthew 26:38-45

Jesus in His last hours asked His closest friends to “watch and pray” with Him, yet being weary and tired, they fell asleep.  Don’t save bedtime as your best praying time—most of us will fall asleep every time!  Let’s be faithful to our Lord and pray not only regularly, but at every prompting of The Spirit.

Jesus also gave us some hard instructions about prayer; for we are often willing to pray for our friends, but not those whom we have ill will toward.  Jesus said something unpopular and surely not easy, but doable in love and the power of The Holy Spirit.

“Ye have heard that it hath been said,

Thou shalt love thy neighbour,

and hate thine enemy.

44 But I say unto you,

Love your enemies,

bless them that curse you,

do good to them that hate you,

and pray for them

which despitefully use you,

and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father

which is in heaven:

for he

maketh his sun to rise

on the evil

and on the good,

and sendeth rain

on the just

and on the unjust.”  Matthew 5:43-45

Prayer needs to be our “first things first” priority, not that we don’t have other obligations to meet, but we must not neglect prayer in all things.  The Apostle Paul reminds us that there are those times when we don’t know how or what to pray for in any specific situation, but don’t quit, when we don’t have the words—The Holy Spirit does—and I am abundantly grateful that HE does!

“But if we hope for that we see not,

then do we with patience wait for it.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:

for we know not what we should pray for

as we ought:

but the Spirit itself maketh intercession

for us

with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts

knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,

because he maketh intercession

for the saints

according to the will of God.”  Romans 8:25-27

God knows and we can run to HIM in any situation, we can trust to HIS care and provision, for HE never fails.

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest,

that is passed into the heavens,

Jesus the Son of God,

let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest

which cannot be touched

with the feeling of our infirmities;

but was in all points tempted like as we are,

yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly

unto the throne of grace,

that we may obtain mercy,

and find grace to help

in time of need.” Hebrews 4:14-16

What about the ‘made up’?  Well, I could be talking about “makeup” and that could be a fitting contrast—as scripture has a lot to say about ‘painted eyes’ (a focus on the flesh instead of the Spirit”) but I’d rather talk about something Jesus talks about in His letters to the churches of The Revelation, particularly the church at Laodicea.  Jesus makes a contrast between having that which is really from God, and that which we have set as valuable in the flesh.  What foundation am I standing on?  Human wisdom or God’s wisdom and true salvation.  And remember this letter is to a church.

“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write;

These things saith

the Amen,

the faithful and true witness,

the beginning of the creation of God;

15 I know thy works,

that thou art neither cold

nor hot:

I would thou wert cold or hot.

16 So then because thou art lukewarm,

and neither cold

nor hot,

I will spue thee out of my mouth.

17 Because thou sayest,

I am rich,

and increased with goods,

and have need of nothing;

and knowest not

that thou art wretched,

and miserable,

and poor,

and blind,

and naked:

18 I counsel thee to buy of me

gold tried in the fire,

that thou mayest be rich;

and white raiment,

that thou mayest be clothed,

and that the shame of thy nakedness

do not appear;

and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve,

that thou mayest see.”  Revelation 3:14-18

Here Jesus calls those who “claim” His name and are in a church, to examine themselves (Paul also talks about this in 2 Corinthians 13:5 and also in 1 Corinthians 11:31-32) and in verse 19 of this passage He calls them to repent!  Jesus is saying the same thing that Isaiah talks about, we can’t do it ourself, our righteousness (so called) will never meet God’s standard!

“But we are all as an unclean thing,

and all our righteousnesses

are as filthy rags;

and we all do fade as a leaf;

and our iniquities,

like the wind, have taken us away.”  Isaiah 64:6

Jesus calls these people, this church, us, to examine ourselves to see if we have come to depend upon our own resources instead of the “blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin”?  How did they get to this point?  We don’t know, but we know that they had become so self-sufficient that they said of themselves, we “have need of nothing”!  And if we go on to look at verse 20, I ask you to examine where Jesus is?

“Behold,

I stand at the door,

and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20

Did you notice?  Jesus is outside trying to get in—HE is knocking at the door calling to “any man” who will “hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him”!  This church is so ‘self-sufficient’ that they don’t even need Jesus!  Ring any bells?  What are you depending on?  Do you “have need of nothing”?  Does your church “have need of nothing”?  Is Jesus knocking at your door?  Are we trying to pass off our ‘filthy rags’ as “righteousness” to God?  It didn’t work for the people in Isaiah’s day, and it won’t fool God today!  It didn’t fool Jesus in the church at Laodicea!  I can’t help but believe that we may be there!

So, are you (or your church) prayed up or ‘made up’?  It’s your choice, but choose wisely, there is a test!  Make sure you’re ready today!  For “... behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” 2 Corinthians 6:2b

Amen and Amen!!!

Your Momma Ain’t Enough???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #171

I have a rather brief, but important word for the New Year, as we bid 2023 farewell, adieu, good-bye; but for sure we can’t say “see you later”!  That which is passed will be the past at midnight tonight, so to speak; what have you done with this year?  What will you do with the next 366 (it’s leap year) days?  But even more important than that question is this one, “What have you done with, for and through Jesus in 2023?”  Do you even know HIM?  Have you come to Jesus in repentance of your sin, and trusting in/believing in HIS payment for your sin and mine on that cross at Calvary?

Has your faith been put in Jesus in humble turning from your sin to receive HIS righteousness?  It’s all that matters in the end.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ,

he is a new creature:

old things are passed away;

behold, all things are become new.

18 And all things are of God,

who hath reconciled us to himself

by Jesus Christ,

and hath given to us the ministry

of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ,

reconciling the world unto himself,

not imputing their trespasses unto them;

and hath committed unto us

the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ,

as though God did beseech you by us:

we pray you in Christ’s stead,

be ye reconciled to God.

21 For he hath made him

to be sin for us,

who knew no sin;

that we might be made

the righteousness of God

in him.”  2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Jesus paid the price for sin, by taking on all sin, for HE had no sin, yet HE died for my sin and yours, that we might receive HIS righteousness and be able to stand before HOLY GOD ALMIGHTY!  But please hear me, it’s YOUR choice—you must decide, and your decision will set your eternal destiny—heaven with Jesus, or hell without HIM!  It’s your choice—your mother or father can’t save you; grandma/grandpa can’t save you, your preacher, your best friend, your spouse (no matter how much they love you) can never come to Jesus for YOU!  So, I beseech you to come to Jesus today, while there is still a today!  Come to HIM in repentance and faith in HIS substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for your sin. Bow before HIM today while He’s still calling you to grace and not judgment!  You’ll face one or the other!  You make the choice, but the consequence has already been set. (See Revelation 20:11-15)

“For God so loved the world,

that he gave his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him

should not perish,

but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world

to condemn the world;

but that the world through him

might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him

is not condemned:

but he that believeth not

is condemned already,

because he hath not believed

in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation,

that light is come into the world,

and men loved darkness

rather than light,

because their deeds were evil.”  John 3:16-19

If you hear HIS voice calling you, don’t turn HIM away, but heed the Holy Spirit’s work in your heart.  You’re the only one who can!

“But as many as received him,

to them gave he power

to become the sons of God,

even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born,

not of blood,

nor of the will of the flesh,

nor of the will of man,

but of God.”  John 1:12-13

 Please come to Jesus—make 2024 your New Life New Year.  I’m praying that you will hear Jesus today, whether He is calling you to salvation or restoration from a stumbling.  HE loves you!!!

“Behold,

I stand at the door, and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20

Catch you next year, Lord willing!!!

 Amen and Amen!!!

A Christmas Word–Part 2???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #167

Christmas is ‘A Promise Fulfilled’, but even more it’s a continuing promise that Jesus is coming again!  He came to redeem all who will believe in HIS substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for our sin, and He will call His own to Himself, let Satan loose on planet earth (so to speak) for a time (a specific time, but that’s a subject for another time) and then HE will set foot back on planet earth to rule and reign here on earth!  And when HE comes again it won’t be as a baby placed in a manger—it will be as King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and all will bow!

“Let this mind be in you,

which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God,

thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation,

and took upon him the form of a servant,

and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man,

he humbled himself,

and became obedient unto death,

even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him,

and given him a name

which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow,

of things in heaven,

and things in earth,

and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.”  Philippians 2:5-11

Jesus, this tiny baby we picture in that lowly manger, is coming again in glory; and whether you believe it or not, whether you believe in HIM or not, whether you are ready or not, HE is coming and YOU, my friend will bow—no matter how resistant you are to Jesus now, no matter how stiff-necked, no matter how much you say ‘tomorrow’, no matter what else you are counting on—if you haven’t come to Jesus, the crucified Lamb of God “who taketh away the sin of the world” then you will be bowing before your judge not your Redeemer!  It’s your choice, but choose wisely, there is a test.

Isaiah promised a baby would come, but he also proclaimed HIS Kingship.

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign;

Behold, a virgin shall conceive,

and bear a son,

and shall call his name Immanuel.”   Isaiah 7:14

“For unto us a child is born,

unto us a son is given:

and the government shall be upon his shoulder:

and his name shall be called

Wonderful, Counsellor,

The mighty God,

The everlasting Father,

The Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase

of his government

and peace

there shall be no end,

upon the throne of David,

and upon his kingdom,

to order it,

and to establish it

with judgment

and with justice

from henceforth even for ever.

The zeal of the LORD of hosts

will perform this.”  Isaiah 9:6-7

Matthew proclaimed that Jesus was this baby, as the angel came and declared it to Joseph!  This baby will be King!

“And she shall bring forth a son,

and thou shalt call his name JESUS:

for he shall save his people from their sins.

22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled

which was spoken of the Lord

by the prophet, saying,

23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child,

and shall bring forth a son,

and they shall call his name Emmanuel,

which being interpreted is,

God with us.”  Matthew 1:21-23

And my dear friend “God” IS with us—was, is, and ever shall be!  Jesus came to save all who will believe and receive HIM in repentance and faith—today!  For Jesus was God, is God, and is coming to display HIS glory, and it won’t be in a stable!  I pray that you will worship the ‘baby’, but don’t leave Him in the manger, come to Him and His cross for the forgiveness of your sin, and HE will forgive, cleanse, save and Redeem you for HIS own!

“And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man

in heaven:

and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn,

and they shall see the Son of man

coming in the clouds of heaven

with power and great glory.”  Matthew 24:30

Jesus promised to keep us and to come again to receive us unto Himself, won’t you join us?  And if you are already one of HIS own, rejoice in this amazing gift that we remember and celebrate JESUS not only during this time of year, but every moment of every day!

“My sheep hear my voice,

and I know them,

and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life;

and they shall never perish,

neither shall any man pluck them

out of my hand.

29 My Father, which gave them me,

is greater than all;

and no man is able to pluck them

out of my Father’s hand.

30 I and my Father are one.”  John 10:27-30

“Let not your heart be troubled:

ye believe in God,

believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions:

if it were not so, I would have told you.

I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you,

I will come again,

and receive you unto myself;

that where I am,

there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know,

and the way ye know.

 5 Thomas saith unto him,

Lord, we know not whither thou goest;

and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him,

I am

the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:1-6

Only One Way—Jesus!  Will you come to HIM this Christmas and become a child of the KING?  He’s waiting for you!  Let us who know Him, spread this amazingly, great and Good News!

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20

Have a Happy, Merry, and Joyous Christmas with The King laid in a manger but coming to rule–soon!!!

Amen and Amen!!!

An Attitude Not Just A Day???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #157

I just want to share with you today a reminder that “Thanksgiving” isn’t just a day, but an attitude of the heart!  We don’t just thank God once a year at our house, but we praise HIM each and every day—throughout the day!  My heart overflows with gratitude to God for my salvation—that Jesus loves you/me so much that HE came to earth, took on human flesh and blood, lived a sinless life, not just to be an example but to BE the “Lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world”; HE took away that sin at Calvary for every man, woman, boy and girl who will come to HIM in repentance and faith in HIS substitutionary, atoning sacrifice!  HE is THE “way…truth…and life”, the only way to God The Father!

“Jesus saith unto him,

I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:6

How can we not praise HIM for that gift, that love, that faithful promise to walk with us every moment of every day!  I’m grateful for that continually, not just one day a year.  If you know Jesus, won’t you praise and thank HIM today and every day that HE gives us?  If you don’t know HIM, you can know HIM, He came to die for YOU!

“Behold,

I stand at the door,

and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20

Jesus is worthy of our praise and gratitude!  So let’s work on our “attitude of gratitude”; for we can be “humbly grateful or grumbly hateful”!  The choice is yours but choose wisely, there is a test!!!

Let’s join the Psalmist in our praise and thanksgiving today and every day throughout the year!

“O LORD,

truly I am thy servant;

I am thy servant,

and the son of thine handmaid:

thou hast loosed my bonds.

17 I will offer to thee

the sacrifice of thanksgiving,

and will call upon

the name of the LORD.

18 I will pay my vows unto the LORD

now

in the presence of all his people,

19 In the courts of the LORD’S house,

in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem.

Praise ye the LORD.”  Psalm 116:16-19

And as you praise God, remember to pray for the “peace of Jerusalem”, for her redemption “draweth nigh”!

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:

they shall prosper that love thee.”  Psalm 122:6

Amen and Amen!!!
