A Blessing From Psalms???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #148

Just a brief blessing for us today from the Psalms, always a treasure no matter what we may be facing.  I pray that you will find a special word in this varied passages!

“Blessed is the man

that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,

nor standeth in the way of sinners,

nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD;

and in his law doth he meditate

day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree

planted by the rivers of water,

that bringeth forth his fruit

in his season;

his leaf also shall not wither;

and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”  Psalm 1:1-3

Oh, that we could get our focus off of “prosperity” in this world and long for and pursue God’s blessings to “prosper” in what we do for Him, for others and to be found faithful before Him!  The only way we can do that is to heed the words of the Psalmist here and walk in the right way—the right places—and in right standing before The Lord Jesus Christ, and Father God by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit!

“But he knoweth the way that I take:

when he hath tried me,

I shall come forth as gold.

11 My foot hath held his steps,

his way have I kept, and not declined.

12 Neither have I gone back

from the commandment of his lips;

I have esteemed the words of his mouth

more than my necessary food.”  Job 23:10-12

I love the book of Job, and I remember the first time I saw this verse—I asked God to help me truly desire “the words of his mouth more than my necessary food”—and for me that’s quite an accomplishment to pursue, for I love food—how about you?  To pursue God’s Words as much as I do food would be an awesome goal, it’s one of mine; and while I don’t always succeed, I do try continually.  And to walk in God’s way is also my heart’s desire.

“Order my steps in thy word:

and let not any iniquity

have dominion over me.”  Psalm 119:133

One of my continual prayers is to be found of God in HIS ways rather than my own!  Remember Jesus said there was “none righteous/good”, the only righteousness that we can have must be imparted to us by the Redeemer’s blood bought salvation!

“The steps of a good man

are ordered by the LORD:

and he delighteth in his way.

24 Though he fall,

he shall not be utterly cast down:

for the LORD upholdeth him

with his hand.”  Psalm 37:23-24

May you find encouragement and hope in The Word of God—He’s ever at work in His own, and you can trust to HIS care.  He has promised it to HIS own:

“… for he hath said,

I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

6 So that we may boldly say,

The Lord is my helper,

and I will not fear what man shall do

unto me.”  Hebrews 13:5b-6.

Whose Power???  A Word from THE WORD!!! #70

“Then he answered and spake unto me, saying,

This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel,

saying,

Not by might,

nor by power,

but by my spirit,

saith the LORD of hosts.”  Zechariah 4:6

This is one of my very favorite verses in all of scripture, and I rehearse it to myself again and again, especially in those times when I feel overwhelmed by the issues and trials of life!  I am reminded so ‘powerfully’ that it isn’t about me–it isn’t about issues–it isn’t about trials–it isn’t about being strong, or being smart, or being in charge, or knowing the best way to go–it IS about God and HIS Holy Spirit at work within me.  Paul reminds us of the uniqueness of Jesus, and the truth that HE not only saves us from our sin but imparts to us HIS own Spirit to lead, direct, strengthen, and encourage in those difficult times when we have fallen, failed, or just feel like we can’t face the battle one more step.  It’s not just me–it’s my LORD and REDEEMER at work in me if I will but yield to HIS Spirit’s leading!

“Whereof I am made a minister,

according to the dispensation of God

which is given to me

for you,

to fulfil the word of God;

26 Even the mystery

which hath been hid from ages

and from generations,

but now is made manifest

to his saints:

27 To whom God would make known

what is the riches of the glory

of this mystery among the Gentiles;

which is Christ in you,

the hope of glory:” Colossians 1:25-27

Paul also reminded the believers at Rome of the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit which Jesus promised to HIS own, those who will come to Him in repentance and faith in HIS substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for our sin!  And yes, SIN is the issue!

“And hope maketh not ashamed;

because the love of God

is shed abroad in our hearts

by the Holy Ghost

which is given unto us.

6 For when we were yet without strength,

in due time Christ died

for the ungodly.”  Romans 5:5-6

We have been given the gift of God’s precious Holy Spirit, the new covenant which God promised and was revealed to/through Jeremiah and Ezekiel and Jesus became the perfect sacrifice for sin for you and me, providing the gift of The Holy Spirit of God to dwell within HIS own; which was fulfilled at the Day of Pentecost after Jesus’ ascension to The Father. (And while I won’t delve into that in this post, you can find the prophecies in Jeremiah 31:31-34, Ezekiel 36:25-27, and the fulfillment in Acts 1:8, and Acts 2:1-4). And I hope to start a series from the book of Lamentations soon, a message that grieves my heart like it did Jeremiah’s–a message that I believe is for America today.  A message I pray that God will grant me the grace to deliver with love, grace, by HIS power, not mine!  May God bless you this week?  Remember John 15:5

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

Bible Ballistics: BBs #779  Advice For The Journey???

 

I want to share a brief word this morning to encourage us all as we walk in this crazy world.  I know the news isn’t very encouraging most days—but the Good News is still The Good News!  Even as Jesus walked the dusty roads of Judea, we are walking in a “dirty, dusty” world, but we can find a refreshing cleansing at the feet of our Lord.

“Come unto me,

all ye that labour

and are heavy laden,

and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you,

and learn of me;

for I am meek and lowly in heart:

and ye shall find rest

unto your souls.”  Matthew 11:28-29

Rest unto our soul!  That’s what our Lord and Master provides at every occasion, when we will take the time and look up for HIS direction, grace, and power.  And how do we know this?

“And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying,

This is the way,

walk ye in it,

when ye turn

to the right hand,

and when ye turn

to the left.”  Isaiah 30:21

Jesus also gives us great assurance of HIS perfect provision and direction for His own!  God has us in all things, times, and situations.  HE IS the sovereign Lord of all, and we belong to HIM when we come to HIM via the cross of Jesus Christ and HIS cleansing blood!

“My sheep hear my voice,

and I know them,

and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life;

and they shall never perish,

neither shall any man

pluck them out of my hand.

29 My Father, which gave them me,

is greater than all;

 and no man is able to pluck them

out of my Father’s hand.

30 I and my Father are one.”  John 10:27-30

And as we think of this journey we are on, I want to share a few passages that help me quite often, and I pray that they will minister to you today!

“Order my steps in thy word:

and let not any iniquity

have dominion over me.”  Psalm 119:133

We must be in God’s Word—it is the standard for our journey—the road map, so to speak, for all the ways we are to go.  Yet sometimes we can’t quite discern what we are to do or how we are to respond in a particular situation.  Here’s a passage that God used in my life to give clear direction, without really saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’!

“Therefore thus saith the LORD,

If thou return,

then will I bring thee again,

and thou shalt stand before me:

and if thou take forth the precious

from the vile,

thou shalt be as my mouth:

let them return unto thee;

but return not thou unto them.

20 And I will make thee unto this people

a fenced brasen wall:

and they shall fight against thee,

but they shall not prevail

against thee:

for I am with thee

to save thee

and to deliver thee,

saith the LORD.”  Jeremiah 15:19-20

I can’t tell you how much assurance God brought to my heart and soul, as well as my mind as I knew HIS answer was sent directly to me through the Prophet Jeremiah!  WOW!

And a final few “words” to remind us that God is ever at work for His own—remember we are only “good” by the blood of Jesus who took our sin upon Himself to take it away and make us “righteous” before God “in HIM”!

“For he hath made him

to be sin for us,

who knew no sin;

that we might be made

the righteousness of God

in him.”  2 Corinthians 5:21

And from the Psalmist:

“The steps of a good man

Bible Ballistics: BBs #514  Are You Carrying The Word???

 

Or are you letting The Word carry YOU? Sometimes we think that just because we ‘carry’ a Bible around with us that we are special; but the truth is that we are to let “The Word” carry us. While I’m often asked if I am one of those ‘Bible Thumpers’, I don’t’ mind answering in the affirmative, but not in the sense that many think of. I am absolutely confident in the veracity, dependability and relevance of The Word of God—the written Word as well as the Living Word, Jesus; and it is the life that makes me confident. It is not only the foundation of all that I believe as a Christian and follower of Jesus, but it is also the source of my living each and every day for, with and through Jesus.

“To whom God would make known

what is the riches

of the glory of this mystery

among the Gentiles;

which is Christ in you,

the hope of glory:” Colossians 1:27

It’s not the Word (my Bible) that I carry around with me, which gives me life, but it is The Word in me—working God’s work amidst a lost and dying world.

“Wherefore, my beloved,

as ye have always obeyed,

not as in my presence only,

but now much more in my absence,

work out your own salvation

with fear and trembling.

13 For it is God which worketh in you

both to will

and to do

of his good pleasure.”   Philippians 2:12-13

Not working ‘for’ our salvation, but working out the salvation that God has put within us, for His glory and the propagation of the Gospel! Even Jesus was doing the work of The Father, by the power of His own deity within flesh, and the presence of His Father through the Holy Spirit, it was His very sustenance! When the disciples wondered why He wasn’t hungry on a particular occasion, He taught them this truth:

“Jesus saith unto them,

My meat

is to do the will of him

that sent me,

and to finish his work.” John 4:34

If the very Son of God depended on The Father to accomplish HIS work in and through Him, how much more do we need to yield to HIS work in and through us! We are to live recognizing the truth that it is “Christ in you, the hope of glory”! It’s all about what HE can do through us, when we but give Him the reins of our life to lead, direct and work HIS work today and each day on our life’s journey.

Our job is to put The Word in us—the written Word—and allow The Living Word to be seen as we live out our faith before a world that needs Jesus! Taking God’s Word as our source of life, applying its truths by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, who can use even ‘cracked pots’ like me and you. He takes imperfect, marred vessels and transforms us into vessels of honor and value to our KING as we sacrifice our will to HIS!

“I beseech you therefore, brethren,

by the mercies of God,

that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice,

holy,

acceptable unto God,

which is your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed

to this world:

but be ye transformed

by the renewing of your mind,

that ye may prove what is that

good,

and acceptable,

and perfect,

will of God.”   Romans 12:1-2

Transformed lives are our testimony of grace! All by the Word of God—the Living Word, Jesus, and the written Word, the Bible! It is our power of living as believers, and the standard of judgment for all when we stand before The Holy, Almighty God of all creation. So, are you simply carrying around a Bible without letting it affect you? Or are you being transformed into the image of Jesus day by day as HE carries you? The choice is yours! But there is a test!

“For the word of God is

quick,

and powerful,

and sharper than any twoedged sword,

piercing even to the dividing asunder

of soul and spirit,

and of the joints and marrow,

and is a discerner

of the thoughts

and intents

of the heart.

13 Neither is there any creature

that is not manifest

in his sight:

but all things are naked

and opened

unto the eyes of him

with whom we have to do.”   Hebrews 4:12-13
