Bible Ballistics: BBs #489 I Know Whom I Have Believed!!!

I would simply like to share a passage with you this morning that Paul wrote to his son-in-the-ministry, Timothy. It is a passage that brings me great challenge and comfort; some of you may even recognize an old familiar hymn in it. May God help us to hear HIS voice above the “madding crowd”! And I pray that you have a blessed and joyous day and week ahead.

“Be not thou therefore ashamed

of the testimony of our Lord,

nor of me his prisoner:

but be thou partaker of the afflictions

of the gospel

according to the power of God;

9 Who hath saved us,

and called us

with an holy calling,

not according to our works,

but according to his own

purpose

and grace,

which was given us

in Christ Jesus

before the world began,

10 But is now made manifest

by the appearing of our Saviour

Jesus Christ,

who hath abolished death,

and hath brought life

and immortality

to light

through the gospel:

11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher,

and an apostle,

and a teacher of the Gentiles.

12 For the which cause

I also suffer these things:

nevertheless I am not ashamed:

for I know

whom I have believed,

and am persuaded

that he is able

to keep that

which I have committed

unto him

against that day.

13 Hold fast the form of sound words,

which thou hast heard of me,

in faith

and love

which is in Christ Jesus.”   2 Timothy 1:8-13

May God bless His Word to our hearts and minds “in Christ Jesus”, and may we remember the words of Job, and stand fast in our faithful Lord—Father, Son and Holy Spirit?

Amen and Amen!

“For I know

that my redeemer liveth,

and that he shall stand

at the latter day

upon the earth:” Job 19:25

Amen!

He IS Coming!!! Bible Ballistics: BBs #473

Bible Ballistics: BBs #473  He IS Coming!!!

Sometimes we grow weary and tired, but remember that our confidence is in the One who IS our strength, for HE keeps His Word—both spoken and written–and we can have confidence in His love, grace and care!!!

“Let not your heart be troubled:

ye believe in God,

believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions:

if it were not so,

I would have told you.

I go to prepare a place

for you.

3 And if I go

and prepare a place

for you,

I will come again,

and receive you

unto myself;

that where I am,

there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go

ye know,

and the way

ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him,

Lord,

we know not whither thou goest;

and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him,

I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.” John 14:1-6

We can overcome in every situation when our trust and confidence are in our God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Jesus has overcome and in HIM so can we.

“These things I have spoken unto you,

that in me

ye might have peace.

In the world

ye shall have tribulation:

but be of good cheer;

I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

So no matter where you are today—

In joy or in sorrow—

In abundance or want—

In success or failure (in the world’s eyes)—

In knowledge or confusion—

We can overcome IN Jesus!!!

“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh

the world:

and this is the victory that overcometh the world,

even our faith.

5 Who is he that overcometh the world,

but he that believeth that Jesus

is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:4-5

We can have confidence in the work that God does in His own, for He is faithful “who has promised”:

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” Titus 1:2

He has come—and HE is coming again! Are you ready???

Ever Faithful??? Bible Ballistics: BBs #472

Bible Ballistics: BBs #472 Ever Faithful???

Our God is truly faithful and I would like for us to consider what that means to those who belong to Jesus. While God’s faithfulness is evident all around—whether people are paying attention to it or not—a testimony drawing people to The God Almighty who loves them, sometimes we become so distracted that we forget that God’s principles never change regardless of what is going on in the society around us. Paul wrote some simple imperatives (what we’re called to do!) for us to consider today.

“See that none render evil for evil

unto any man;

but ever follow

that which is good,

both among yourselves,

and to all men.

16 Rejoice evermore.

17 Pray without ceasing.

18 In every thing give thanks:

for this is the will of God

in Christ Jesus

concerning you.

19 Quench not the Spirit.

20 Despise not prophesyings.

21 Prove all things;

hold fast that which is good.

22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God

your whole spirit

and soul

and body

be preserved blameless

unto the coming

of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Faithful is he that calleth you,

who also will do it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:15-24

As we’ve talked about a lot lately—we can only have spiritual maturity and success as we learn to lean continually on our Lord—it’s all about His faithful provision and not our fleshly efforts. It’s “fixing your eyes on Jesus” and walking in the power of HIS precious Holy Spirit’s guiding in our lives.

“I am the vine,

ye are the branches:

He that abideth in me,

and I in him,

the same bringeth forth much fruit:

for without me ye can do nothing.” John 15:5

Yet as we learn to ‘walk in the Spirit’, we will see God’s hand at work all around us, and make a difference in the world around us for HIS kingdom, as we reflect HIS love and grace to those He places in our path. How?

“I can

do all things

through Christ

which strengtheneth me.”    Philippians 4:13

And “I can” because God IS faithful to accomplish His purpose in HIS own!!!

“Being confident of this very thing,

that he which hath begun a good work

in you

will perform it

until the day of Jesus Christ:”   Philippians 1:6

And because of His love, grace and continual work in our lives, we can be confident in Him and His faithfulness! Always. I simply join Paul, and hope to encourage each of us to keep looking up and pressing on with, for and by the power of our King! Let’s feast on the depths of this truth!

“But

my God

shall supply

all

your need

according to

his riches

in glory

by Christ Jesus.

20 Now unto

God and our Father

be glory

for ever

and ever. Amen.” Philippians 4:19-20

May God speak His love and truth to your heart to day, reminding you of how much you are loved and cared for by Him—and me! I am praying that each of us will draw near to Him today and let HIS light shine through us. And if you don’t know Him you can, by simply repenting of your sin and calling on Jesus to save you today. (“…if any man….open the door….I will come in….” Revelation 3:20)

“Humble yourselves therefore

under the mighty hand of God,

that he may exalt you

in due time:

7 Casting all your care

upon him;

for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7

Amen and Amen!!!

A Father’s Love!!! Bible Ballistics: Vol. 11 No. 19

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 11 No. 19 A Father’s Love!!!

(An Edited repost of Vol. 8 No. 3)

As we celebrate Father’s Day today, I can’t help but think of my own godly Father, and that makes me smile, even though he’s been gone for 27 years! Love doesn’t have an expiration date! My father was a quiet man, yet one who lived what he believed—he walked the walk; he didn’t just “talk” a talk! One of the biblical Greek words that is translated “love” is ‘agape’, which means benevolent love; it also means selfless love, which always acts or behaves in the best interest of the recipient of that love.

My father was one of the best examples of this God-like kind of love. But what does it look like? How does that kind of love act and respond?

“Greater love hath no man than this,

that a man lay down his life for his friends.”    John 15:13.                (Jesus even laid down His life for His enemies-See Romans 5:1-11)

As Jesus spoke these words, He was about to lay down His life for His disciples, for the world—for you and me! While we know that Jesus laid down His physical life, He shed His blood for our salvation, I’d like to talk about this concept from a different perspective. People can be willing to die for others; our military men and women pledge themselves to give “all” for the defense of our nation; local citizens make that same kind of commitment to local fire and law-enforcement departments. Yet there is something more. The question that I’d like us to consider is not just, “Are you willing to ‘die’ for someone/something?” but “Are you willing to give yourself to ‘live’ for others?” Are we willing to sacrifice our personal desires, comfort, and convenience for the benevolent good of others?

We often think of this in regard to true Christian living and martyrdom, but do we apply it to our ‘living’ relationships with others? I’ll have to admit, I don’t always make the grade in this area, but my father was an example of selflessness that took me many years to appreciate fully. While Jesus left us the greatest of all examples in giving His life’s blood for us: He also gave His ‘living’ in foregoing His own personal desires to meet the needs of those around Him—including you and me! He kept on going when He was tired, when He was ridiculed, when He was weary and perhaps even frustrated with the unbelief of those around Him. Jesus gave Himself for others, to serve and minister to them that they might see truth and come to salvation by faith in Him, and we are called to follow HIS example. What are we “giving”? How are we “behaving” toward others? Do people see Jesus IN us?

“Let nothing be done through strife

or vainglory;

but in lowliness of mind

let each esteem other

better than themselves.

4 Look not every man on his own things,

but every man also

on the things of others.

5 Let this mind be in you,

which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God,

thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation,

and took upon him the form of a servant,

and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man,

he humbled himself,

and became obedient

unto death,

even the death of the cross.”    Philippians 2:3-8

Jesus laid down His life for us, and we are called to lay down our “self” life, for a life of “selfless” service to Jesus and others; to give of ourselves that others may come to “life” in HIM. In following Jesus we are also called to follow His example of humility, servant-hood, obedience to our Father God (as well as our earthly father), as we die to our selfish desires and daily live for and unto God through the power of The Son and His Holy Spirit!

When I see the needs of others, my thoughts should go to God, asking ‘What can I do?’ Yet we are living in a culture that has been, and still is, teaching others to focus on “Who will meet my needs?” rather than “What can I do to help?” We are saved to live unto Jesus in faithful, biblical service to others, and we can only do that when we “die” to self!

“I am crucified with Christ:

nevertheless I live;

yet not I,

but Christ liveth in me:

and the life which I now live

in the flesh

I live by the faith

of the Son of God,

who loved me,

and gave himself for me.”    Galatians 2:20

I watched my father live this out in his life with my mother, with us children, and with others. While he had very strict rules about lending and borrowing (he seldom did either); he wouldn’t loan you his tools, but he would come do whatever repair work you needed to have done. While he wouldn’t loan out his mower, he would come mow your lawn if you needed it. He also had strict rules about others driving his car, but if you needed a ride he would chauffer you wherever you needed to go. He gave of himself to meet the needs of others as he had opportunity.

In the case of my mother he almost always did what pleased her. Many saw him as a “hen-pecked’ husband, but what they didn’t realize was that my mothers happiness and pleasure meant more to him than anything else. He often gave up his desires to please her even when it cost him financially. My father served others because He loved serving Jesus in any way that he could and believed that serving others was one way to serve Jesus.

While my father was a man of few words, he was a man of selflessness and kindness in every way, and to everyone. What he taught me about self-sacrifice by his life and actions is a priceless heritage and I thank God for His blessing of a godly, honorable, honest and generous father. One who loved me ‘unconditionally’!

He lived out the “fruit of the Spirit” in his daily walk, and I thank God for the things I learned from him. One of the things that I learned is that you can do a lot of talking, but if your actions don’t match your words, you haven’t really said much worth listening to. I learned that “laying down your life”, doesn’t mean just “dying”, but in an even greater way, it means living a life of selfless love in action. It means living a life that gives of ‘self’ to secure the good of ‘others’ to the glory of God. And we can only do that when we have God’s love within us.

“Therefore being justified by faith,

we have peace with God

through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access

by faith

into this grace

wherein we stand,

and rejoice in hope

of the glory of God.

3 And not only so,

but we glory in tribulations also:

knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

4 And patience, experience;

and experience, hope:

5 And hope maketh not ashamed;

because the love of God

is shed abroad in our hearts

by the Holy Ghost

which is given unto us.”    Romans 5:1-5

When we come to Jesus by faith and repentance, we receive God’s love via the Holy Spirit—we receive the ability to share God’s love with others from within. We also receive the ability to grow in grace and truth by the Holy Spirit of Jesus. You might want to note that we don’t grow in the “fruits” of The Spirit, but in the “fruit of the Spirit”!

“But the fruit of the Spirit is

love,

joy,

peace,

longsuffering,

gentleness,

goodness,

faith,

23 Meekness,

temperance:

against such there is no law.

24 And they that are Christ’s

have crucified the flesh

with the affections and lusts.

25 If we live in the Spirit,

let us also walk in the Spirit.

26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory,

provoking one another,

envying one another.” Galatians 5:22-26

Sometimes doing what is best may mean that we are misunderstood. Real love, godly, ‘agape’ love does what is best for the other person—not what indulges their sinful flesh, and that isn’t always welcome! I thank God that I have had a wonderful example of “God’s” love from my parents, especially my father, and I knew the security of truly “unconditional” love and forgiveness from one of the godliest men I ever knew. I am also married to another!

If you still have your parents (Especially your father on this Father’s Day) with you, take time and let them know what they mean to you. If not, then thank our heavenly Father for all that He is and all that He does in providing for us, especially for Jesus who actually gave HIS all for us; and for the blessing of godly parents. And may we strive to be godly parents/grandparents, and leave a heritage of godliness to those who come behind us!

Happy Father’s Day! May our lives bring honor to our Heavenly Father and to our earthly fathers and mothers.

“Honour thy father and thy mother:

that thy days may be long

upon the land

which the Lord thy God

giveth thee.” Exodus 20:12

We are all blessed beyond measure, may our lives reflect our gratitude in all we do and say. Bless someone today!!!

#4 Of The 5 “D”s Of Readiness???Bible Ballistics: BBs #663

Bible Ballistics: BBs #633   #4 Of The 5 “D”s Of Readiness???

An Edited Repost of Bible Ballistics: BBs #14\

As we discuss this 4th of our 5 D’s, Decency, (Debt, Diligence, Discernment, Decency, and Dependence) what does it really mean? A big question in our culture.

Decency– “Behavior that conforms to accepted standards of morality or respectability; modesty and propriety”.

For our purposes, “God’s standard, and Biblical respectability”.  Because we are called to live ready for the return of our Lord, ‘decency’ is imperative.  Our behavior is to “conform” to God’s standard.  Remember what Paul reminds us of:

“And be not conformed

to this world:

but be ye transformed

by the renewing of your mind,

that ye may prove

what is that good,

and acceptable,

and perfect,

will of God.”   Romans 12:2

I know we’ve used this verse a lot lately, but I believe it is one we need to keep before us, as ‘conformity’ seems to be the order of the day for most in our culture, our world.  Yet we need to remember we are called to be ‘non-conformists’ in regard to the world’s ways, but rather evidence of God’s transforming work before a lost and dying world (which by the way, isn’t our home)!

As Paul told the church at Corinth:

“Let all things be done decently

and in order.”  1 Cor. 14:40

Simply stated, in context, this refers to the use of spiritual gifts within the body of Christ, but it also has a general application to our individual daily lives.  We are called to practice ‘decency’:

in all that we do;

wherever we are,

to every one,

all the time!!!

A seemingly small order but a big demand.  It means I must think about my actions—all of them —moment by moment, Biblically!!!

“But thanks be to God,

which giveth us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren,

be ye stedfast,

unmoveable,

always abounding

in the work of the Lord,

forasmuch as ye know

that your labour is not in vain

in the Lord.”  1 Corinthians 15:57-58

Yet we will only succeed in this challenge as we pursue the “mind of Christ Jesus” as Paul instructed us in his letter to the Philippians.

“Look not every man

on his own things,

but every man also

on the things of others.

5 Let this mind be in you,

which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God,

thought it not robbery

to be equal with God:

7 But made himself

of no reputation,

and took upon him

the form of a servant,

and was made

in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man,

he humbled himself,

and became obedient

unto death,

even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also

hath highly exalted him,

and given him a name

which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow,

of things in heaven,

and things in earth,

and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.”    Philippians 2:4-11

All because “God so loved” me, how can I do less than reflect His love and character to all, and in all I do.  May my life be a testimony of the life-changing redemption of Jesus my Lord; as I behave with decency, considering my love for HIM, and the effect it may have on others….   Love always affects others—God’s love that is!!!

So?  Keep looking up. Remember the acrostic

J-Jesus (died for me)

O-Others (need to see HIM)

Y-You (are His messenger to the world)!

Simple but profound.  Amen and Amen!!!
