Bible Ballistics: BBs #579      You Can Overcome!!!

 

“And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven,

Now is come salvation,

and strength,

and the kingdom of our God,

and the power of his Christ:

for the accuser of our brethren

is cast down,

which accused them before our God

day and night.

11 And they overcame him

by the blood of the Lamb,

and by the word of their testimony;

and they loved not their lives

unto the death.”  Revelation 12:10-11

While this is a prophetic passage, the principle is ever true, we can overcome the “wiles of the devil” (See Ephesians 6:10-18) by the power of the cross—”by the blood of the Lamb”!  It’s all about Jesus!  I take my stand with Paul:

“And I, brethren,

when I came to you,

came not with excellency of speech

or of wisdom,

declaring unto you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know any thing

among you,

save Jesus Christ,

and him crucified.”  1 Corinthians 2:1-2

People often ask me about writing more or less; about writing about this issue or that; about addressing politics or government issues, and I am always brought back to this passage and reminded that Jesus has called me to share HIS truth, and not be side-tracked by other’s interests or agendas.  I have been called to serve Jesus as a teacher, and writer; and my goal is to overcome by HIS blood, HIS saving grace, ever proclaiming the truth that JESUS still saves and changes lives today.  I can’t change myself without His help, much less anyone else.  But I can pray, read and study His Word, live a holy life of obedience, and share as I have opportunity!  But what are we to share?  Jesus!  We are to tell others the good news that Jesus has paid the price for us with His own blood—HE is the only acceptable, substitutionary, atoning sacrifice for sin!

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed

with corruptible things,

as silver

and gold,

from your vain conversation

received by tradition

from your fathers;

19 But with the precious blood of Christ,

as of a lamb without blemish

and without spot:

20 Who verily was foreordained

before the foundation of the world,

but was manifest in these last times

for you,

21 Who by him

do believe in God,

that raised him up from the dead,

and gave him glory;

that your faith and hope might be

in God.

22 Seeing ye have purified your souls

in obeying the truth through the Spirit

unto unfeigned love of the brethren,

see that ye love one another

with a pure heart fervently:

23 Being born again,

not of corruptible seed,

but of incorruptible,

by the word of God,

which liveth and abideth for ever.”  1 Peter 1:18-23

Here Peter gives us the truth about the “blood of The Lamb” and what  the “word of our testimony” is—Jesus (and remember John 1 tells us that Jesus IS ‘the word of God’)—before, during and after all is said and done—it’s all about Jesus.  Even Jesus told us about having overcoming power and victory.

“Abide in me,

and I in you.

As the branch cannot bear fruit

of itself,

except it abide in the vine;

no more can ye,

 except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine,

ye are the branches:

He that abideth in me,

and I in him,

the same bringeth forth much fruit:

for without me ye can do nothing.”   John 15:4-5

And Praise God Almighty—We can overcome “by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony”!  So, whatever you may be facing today, I pray that these words from God’s Word, will encourage you, and remind you to “look up…. your redemption draweth nigh”!  As Paul so aptly reminds us:

“I can

do

all things

through Christ

which strengtheneth me.”   Philippians 4:13

Bible Ballistics: BBs #576      Whose Battles Are You Fighting???

 

I have a very brief word to share this morning as the sun pops over the horizon.  I can’t help but thank God that HE IS my strength and my redeemer, and we just need to keep our eyes on the prize—Jesus!  And while heaven is my home, I still have to live this life as long as God gives me breath; maybe you need a word of encouragement along with me this morning—let’s dig in.

“The LORD is my light

and my salvation;

whom shall I fear?

the LORD is the strength

of my life;

of whom shall I be afraid?”  Psalm 27:1

No one!  We can walk in confidence and overcome the fears that confront me/you; and while my fears will be different from your fears, we can look up to The One who has us in His hand; and as believers in Jesus, we have been given His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth.

“Howbeit when he,

the Spirit of truth,

is come,

he will guide you

into all truth:

for he shall not speak of himself;

but whatsoever he shall hear,

that shall he speak:

and he will shew you

things to come.

14 He shall glorify me:

for he shall receive of mine,

and shall shew it unto you.”    John 16:13-14

And I am so thankful that Paul reminded his son-in-the-ministry of this very thing.  So, friends, may we remember that we are not alone, and as King Solomon wrote “there is no new thing under the sun” (See Ecclesiastes 1:9)!

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;

but of power,

and of love,

and of a sound mind.”  2 Timothy 1:7

I find it interesting that the word for “sound mind” here, is a word that means “right thinking”, and ‘right thinking’ means thinking God’s thoughts, and remembering that HE has it all in His hand!

“And all Judah stood before the LORD,

with their little ones,

their wives,

and their children.

14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah,

a Levite of the sons of Asaph,

came the Spirit of the LORD

in the midst of the congregation;

15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah,

and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem,

and thou king Jehoshaphat,

Thus saith the LORD unto you,

Be not afraid

nor dismayed by reason

of this great multitude;

for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”    2 Chronicles 20:13-15

Take some time today and read this whole episode in the life of Jehoshaphat, it will encourage your soul, no matter what trials or battles you may be facing; for remember God has told us as well, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (See Hebrews 13:5-6)!  May you have a blessed day—look up—our God reigns!

Bible Ballistics: BBs #575       Be A Can-Do Believer???

 

Just a brief word of encouragement this Friday morning.  We talked the other day about things that distract and discourage us, and life gets so hectic around us, we just need to be reminded that believers in Jesus belong to the “God Who Sees” (See Genesis 16 for the whole story).  Our God has provided for us through the redeeming sacrifice of our Lord Jesus, and in His power and through His Spirit we can ‘be’ what God has called us to ‘be’; we can do whatever God calls us to do, we can go where-ever God sends us; we can truly be victorious in Jesus (oh, that might make a great song—ha ha)!  So, let’s just take a few minutes this morning (or whatever time of day you are reading this) and rehearse the goodness and provision of our God!

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying,

All power is given unto me

in heaven

and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore,

and teach all nations,

baptizing them

in the name of the Father,

and of the Son,

and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them

to observe all things

whatsoever I have commanded you:

and, lo,

I am with you alway,

even unto the end of the world.

Amen.”  Matthew 29:18-20

It’s said that the “go ye” can literally be translated as “as you are going”—be, do, and take the truth of the cross everywhere you go!  I can do that—because Jesus said I could, because “all power” is HIS, and HE has shared it with His own! And remember that “all” is a simple Greek word that means, “ALL”! Yet God never asks us to be, do or go ‘alone’!

“Let your conversation

be without covetousness;

and be content

with such things as ye have:

for he hath said,

I will never leave thee,

nor forsake thee.

6 So that we may boldly say,

The Lord is my helper,

and I will not fear

what man shall do

unto me.”   Hebrews 13:5-6

Jesus is our strength, our sustenance, but we are so often distracted from His presence that we allow ourselves to ‘feel’ alone! But remember as we rehearse these truths from The Word of God, we need to rehearse because we are human ‘forgetters’! When one of my granddaughters was a 2 or 3-year-old, she used to say, “Somebody stole my rememberer!”  Well there is more truth to that than we might think, for the enemy of our soul is ever trying to ‘steal’ our joy, our confidence, our assurance, our hope and keep us from “remembering” what GOD has said; for God cannot and does not lie! Count on it!

“In hope of eternal life,

which God,

that cannot lie,

 promised

before the world began;”   Titus 1:2

Whoa momma!  God is our hope and confidence and unlike our enemy, who is the “father of lies”, God IS truth, Jesus IS truth; therefore, we can stand in His truth—always.  And of course, we can’t leave out the most familiar of all the passages on ‘do’:

“I can do

all things

through Christ

which strengtheneth me.”   Philippians 4:13

My friends—you “can do” whatever God is leading you to do today!  Don’t lose hope, don’t give up, don’t believe the lies of the enemy—but remember who has called you, who has saved you, who has provided us “all things” that we need.

“According as his divine power

hath given unto us all things

that pertain unto life

and godliness,

through the knowledge

of him that hath called us

to glory and virtue:” 2 Peter 1:3

We can count on Jesus, our Lord, Savior, Redeemer, and best friend!

“Henceforth I call you not servants;

for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth:

but I have called you friends;

for all things that I have heard of my Father

I have made known unto you.

16 Ye have not chosen me,

but I have chosen you,

and ordained you,

that ye should go

and bring forth fruit,

and that your fruit should remain:

that whatsoever ye shall ask

of the Father

in my name,

he may give it you.”   John 15:15-16

Amen and Amen!

Bible Ballistics: BBs #574 Are You Hearing What You’re Seeing???

 

I know that seems like a ludicrous question, but we live in a world that is ready to accept and believe any ‘cutsey’ meme, video, artsy word picture, social media claim, or celebrity tirade; so I would like us to consider bringing “into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (See 2 Cor. 10:3-5)?  Are we willing to measure with God’s plumb-line?  Or have we become accustomed to just measuring by our own/the world’s judgment, without regard to the real truth of what God has said? Who/what is influencing your perceptions and actions?

“The idols of the heathen

are silver and gold,

the work of men’s hands.

16 They have mouths,

but they speak not;

eyes have they,

but they see not;

17 They have ears,

but they hear not;

neither is there any breath

in their mouths.

18 They that make them

are like unto them:

so is every one

that trusteth in them.”  Psalm 135:15-18

While we may not bow down to ‘statues’ of gold and silver, we do have modern idols (as well as the old-fashioned statues and figures that are worshipped by some) that the enemy uses to draw us from God—to distract us from the truth, by feeding us half-truths—pretty, sweet-sounding platitudes!  And when I looked up the word, platitudes, I almost laughed out loud!  It’s the perfect description of most of the ‘media’ we are enamored with!

Platitudes: a flat, dull or trite remark, especially one uttered

as if it were fresh or profound; the quality or state of being flat, dull or trite.

Isaiah received a message from The Lord about the blindness of mankind.

“And he said,

Go,

and tell this people,

Hear ye indeed,

but understand not;

and see ye indeed,

but perceive not.

10 Make the heart of this people fat,

and make their ears heavy,

and shut their eyes;

lest they see with their eyes,

and hear with their ears,

and understand with their heart,

and convert,

and be healed.”  Isaiah 6:9-10

We live in a culture that ‘marches’ for or against so many things that you can’t keep up with it; but the issue isn’t will we ‘march’, but will we return to God.  We want to stop violence, but we don’t want God and His ways.  We want to stop ‘disease’, but we aren’t willing to make God first in our lives rather than our flesh.  We want to stop ‘abuse’ of various kinds, but we aren’t willing to seek God’ face and call ‘sin’ sin!  We want our own way, and we want to have the abundant blessings of God, but we aren’t willing to accept HIS principles, hear His Gospel, recognize our sin, repent and be saved—we want our way NOT HIS! That will always bring consequences.  Only Jesus changes hearts! God makes it clear:

“Be not deceived;

God is not mocked:

for whatsoever a man soweth,

that shall he also reap.

8 For he that soweth to his flesh

shall of the flesh reap corruption;

but he that soweth to the Spirit

shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

9 And let us not be weary

in well doing:

for in due season

we shall reap,

 if we faint not.”    Galatians 6:7-9

Let’s get ‘back to basics’ by delving into His Word and learning to recognize and discern ‘good from bad’ (See 1 Kings 3:9)!  Only God sets the true moral compass—and yes there still is one, but we must ‘seek’ Him!  We won’t ‘fall into it’ by chance; and the devil will never tell you the truth (See John 8:44)!

Paul gave the Corinthian believers a caution regarding the difference between the spiritual things of God (God’s way) and the natural man (without God), and I think we can gain great insight from it, for, as Solomon put it, “there is no new thing under the sun” (See Ecclesiastes 1:9). While this is a lengthy passage, I want us to consider these truths and take them to heart, so I’ll just print it out here and pray that you will ponder, with me, what we are doing with what we see!  Are we willing to judge what we hear (and see) by what we ‘find’ in God’s Word, and live accordingly, or are we living by the world’s ‘platitudes’?

“And I, brethren, when I came to you,

came not with excellency of speech

 or of wisdom,

declaring unto you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you,

save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

3 And I was with you in weakness,

and in fear,

and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching

was not with enticing words

of man’s wisdom,

but in demonstration

of the Spirit

and of power:

5 That your faith should not stand

in the wisdom of men,

but in the power of God.

6 Howbeit we speak wisdom

among them that are perfect:

yet not the wisdom of this world,

nor of the princes of this world,

that come to nought:

7 But we speak the wisdom of God

in a mystery,

even the hidden wisdom,

which God ordained before the world

unto our glory:

8 Which none of the princes of this world knew:

for had they known it,

they would not have crucified

the Lord of glory.

9 But as it is written,

Eye hath not seen,

nor ear heard,

neither have entered into the heart of man,

the things which God hath prepared

for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us

by his Spirit:

for the Spirit searcheth all things,

yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man,

save the spirit of man which is in him?

even so the things of God knoweth no man,

but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received,

not the spirit of the world,

but the spirit which is of God;

that we might know the things

that are freely given to us

of God.

13 Which things also we speak,

not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth,

but which the Holy Ghost teacheth;

comparing spiritual things

with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not

the things of the Spirit of God:

for they are foolishness unto him:

neither can he know them,

because they are spiritually discerned.

15 But he that is spiritual

judgeth all things,

yet he himself is judged of no man.

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord,

that he may instruct him?

But we have the mind of Christ.”  1 Corinthians 2:1-16

And for good measure, Paul told us what “the mind of Christ” looks like!  Are we reflecting HIS mind in us, or the world’s?

“Let this mind be in you,

which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God,

thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation,

and took upon him the form of a servant,

and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man,

he humbled himself,

and became obedient unto death,

even the death of the cross.”    Philippians 2:5-8

Am I “crucified with Christ”?  (See Galatians 2:20). Amen!!!

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 13 No. 24.  Recognizing Lies That Defeat???

 

We talked last week about the regeneration that Jesus imparts on us when we are born again; and while many of us came to Jesus after falling for the lies of the enemy for years, there are still lies that the enemy uses to make us impotent in our service to our Lord.  That’s what I want us to talk about today—the lies that catch us off guard, the lies that get us distracted from our focus on Jesus, the lies that challenge God’s Word, and the lies that our culture is constantly bombarding us with; yet the power, truth, and love that is the bedrock of our faith still stands—even when our eyes have been diverted by the lies!  Our God reigns, and you can count on HIS faithfulness!

“The LORD reigneth,

he is clothed with majesty;

the LORD is clothed with strength,

wherewith he hath girded himself:

the world also is stablished,

that it cannot be moved.

2 Thy throne is established of old:

thou art from everlasting.

3 The floods have lifted up, O LORD,

the floods have lifted up their voice;

the floods lift up their waves.

4 The LORD on high is mightier

than the noise of many waters,

yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

5 Thy testimonies are very sure:

holiness becometh thine house, O LORD,

for ever.”   Psalm 93:1-5

I love the picture that the Psalmist paints here of the wondrous might, sovereignty and faithfulness of our God; and because HE is faithful in all, ruling over all, and in HIS majesty is our total confidence, we don’t have to settle for lies—we belong to the true God of all—Father, Son and Holy Spirit!  As Jesus said:

“Jesus saith unto him,

I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:6

Our God is God, and He is in charge—HE reigns, He doesn’t lie!!!

“And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters,

and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying,

Alleluia:

for the Lord God omnipotent

reigneth.”   Revelation 19:6

We can have confidence because our Lord Jesus IS “the way, the truth, and the life”, and we don’t have to settle for lies!  But by the same token, we also need to remind ourselves over and over again that our enemy is subtle, deceitful, tricky and ever seeking our destruction.  But Jesus our LORD, IS LORD!

“The thief cometh not,

but for to steal,

and to kill,

and to destroy:

I am come

that they might have life,

and that they might have it more abundantly.

11 I am the good shepherd:

the good shepherd giveth his life

for the sheep.”  John 10:10-11

Jesus gave His life for us—the enemy always wants to destroy—for he is the great imitator and perverter, while our Lord gives abundant LIFE!  You can rely upon the “truth” of God’s Word, His person, and His character—you and I don’t have to stay in “the pits”, we simply have to run to our God!

“The name of the LORD

       is a strong tower:

the righteous

 runneth into it,

and is safe.”  Proverbs 18:10

That’s for we who have placed our faith and trust in God to receive the substitutionary, atoning sacrifice that Jesus made for all who will believe; and we can count on HIM, we don’t have to be tricked by the lies of the devil.  We can be victorious by keeping our eyes on Jesus.

“Humble yourselves therefore

under the mighty hand of God,

that he may exalt you

in due time:

7 Casting all your care

upon him;

for he careth for you.

8 Be sober,

be vigilant;

because your adversary the devil,

as a roaring lion,

walketh about,

seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast

in the faith,

knowing that the same afflictions

are accomplished in your brethren

that are in the world.”  1 Peter 5:6-9

We can have victory in Jesus, but we must pay attention—we must take Peter’s advice, being “humble….careful….sober(right focused)…vigilent” as we “resist stedfast in the faith” the enemy of our souls! I want to help us focus (myself included) on the security that we have IN Jesus—to know Him and His truth more and more as our life-line at every turn.

“And ye shall know

the truth,

and the truth

shall make you free.”  John 8:32

We are made free because of His sacrifice and by the power of His Holy Spirit who births us into HIS kingdom, as His children—sons and daughters of God!

“And now I am no more in the world,

but these are in the world,

 and I come to thee.

 Holy Father,

keep through thine own name

those whom thou hast given me,

that they may be one,

as we are.

12 While I was with them in the world,

I kept them in thy name:

those that thou gavest me

I have kept,

and none of them is lost,

but the son of perdition;

that the scripture might be fulfilled.

13 And now come I to thee;

and these things I speak in the world,

that they might have my joy

fulfilled in themselves…

….21 That they all may be one;

as thou, Father,

art in me,

and I in thee,

that they also may be one

in us:

that the world may believe

that thou hast sent me.

22 And the glory which thou gavest me

I have given them;

that they may be one,

even as we are one:

23 I in them,

and thou in me,

that they may be made perfect

in one;

and that the world may know

that thou hast sent me,

and hast loved them,

 as thou hast loved me.”    Portions of John 17:11-23

All by the power of The Holy Spirit “translating” us into God’s kingdom, out of the power of darkness.

“But as many as received him,

to them gave he power

to become the sons of God,

even to them that believe

on his name:

13 Which were born,

not of blood,

nor of the will of the flesh,

nor of the will of man,

but of God.”  John 1:12-13

As Paul said so powerfully:

“Giving thanks unto the Father,

which hath made us meet

to be partakers of the inheritance

of the saints

in light:

13 Who hath delivered us

from the power of darkness,

and hath translated us

into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14 In whom we have redemption

through his blood,

even the forgiveness of sins:”  Colossians 1:12-14

Redemption is ours, bringing with it the power to live a victorious life in HIM, Jesus; forgiveness of our sins, meaning we don’t have to be intimidated or put down by the accusations of the enemy of our life, our work and our effectiveness. We can have victory because Jesus bought the victory at Calvary, giving us liberty, power, deliverance and confidence—all through HIS blood!

“There is therefore now no condemnation

to them which are in Christ Jesus,

who walk not after the flesh,

but after the Spirit.

2 For the law of the Spirit of life

in Christ Jesus

hath made me free

from the law of sin and death.

3 For what the law could not do,

in that it was weak

through the flesh,

God sending his own Son

in the likeness of sinful flesh,

and for sin,

condemned sin

in the flesh:

4 That the righteousness

of the law

might be fulfilled in us,

who walk not

after the flesh,

but

after the Spirit.”

Romans 8:1-4

Victory for all who will receive Him and walk in HIS Spirit!  We don’t have to live and walk in light of our past, but in the victory that God has provided in Jesus!  We do NOT have to “order our steps” in light of the accusations of the devil, but according to God’s Word!  Amen and Amen. We don’t have to accept the lies that Satan throws at us–for we are God’s, delivered and paid for- but we must recognize and resist the enemy’s lies, as we walk in Jesus’ Spirit, not our flesh!  My past is forgiven!  My future is HIS!

“This I say then,

Walk in the Spirit,

and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh……

25 If we live in the Spirit,

 let us also walk in the Spirit.”  Galatians 5:16- & 25

And just a few reminders of the enemy that we face—remembering that he is a defeated foe, and a liar of the first order!

“Ye are of your father the devil,

and the lusts of your father ye will do.

He was a murderer

from the beginning,

and abode not

in the truth,

because there is no truth in him.

When he speaketh a lie,

he speaketh of his own:

for he is a liar,

and the father of it.”  John 8:44

And his first schemes and lies were the same as they are today—challenging the Word of God, the heart of God, the goodness of God, and calling men, women, boys and girls, to doubt God and the truth of HIS Word/Words!

“Now the serpent was more subtil

than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made.

And he said unto the woman,

Yea, hath God said,

Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2 And the woman said unto the serpent,

We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree

which is in the midst of the garden,

God hath said,

Ye shall not eat of it,

neither shall ye touch it,

lest ye die.

4 And the serpent said unto the woman,

Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know

that in the day ye eat thereof,

then your eyes shall be opened,

 and ye shall be as gods,

 knowing good and evil.”    Genesis 3:1-5

Satan is still challenging God and His Word.  Will you be as gullible as Eve, or will you “stand fast in the evil day”?  We must know the Word of God, in order to “resist stedfast in the faith”!  Satan doesn’t play by the rules—his rules change according to the situation (remember situational ethics), who do you think promotes that ideology?  Here are some truths that you need to know!

“For such are false apostles,

deceitful workers,

transforming themselves

into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel;

for Satan himself is transformed

 into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing

if his ministers also be

transformed as the ministers of righteousness;

whose end shall be

according to their works.”    2 Corinthians 11:13-15

Remember—we win.  Don’t let the liars, deceivers, the perverters of God’s Word lead you astray, discourage your journey, or stop your growth in HIM, but continue to keep your eyes on the prize, knowing that your sins have been forgiven and covered in His blood, so press on in power, confidence, and truth—for our God IS truth and HE is coming soon.  Ready or not HE is coming!

“Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come,

that ye shall be scattered,

every man to his own,

and shall leave me alone:

and yet I am not alone,

because the Father is with me.

33 These things I have spoken unto you,

that in me ye might have peace.
