Bible Ballistics: BBs #440        Our Life Or His???

As we talked last time about “blooming” for The Lord where He has planted us, I’d like us to dig a little deeper into how we are to bloom. We are called to be a reflection of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, not self!

“I am crucified with Christ:

nevertheless I live;

yet not I,

but Christ

liveth

in me:

and the life which I now live

in the flesh

I live by the faith

of the Son of God,

who loved me,

and gave himself

for me.”   Galatians 2:20

If we will learn to keep this powerful principle before us, we could see so many things change around us—mostly ‘me’! I/we are called to let Christ be seen in us! So let’s take a few minutes this morning to remind ourselves of what He has called us to be—and do. For if we don’t “be” His, we can never “do” His work (pardon the grammar, but you get the point: doing comes out of the being, never vice-versa!)

“My sheep hear my voice,

and I know them,

and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life;

and they shall never perish,

neither shall any man

pluck them out of my hand.”   John 10:27-28

When we are HIS sheep we will hear His voice—the Holy Spirit—and we are to follow HIM, not self—HE is Lord!

“I am the good shepherd,

and know my sheep,

and am known of mine.” John 10:14

Jesus is “the good shepherd” and when we are His, He knows us and we will know Him. And as we dig into His Word we will see Him more quickly, respond more promptly, and walk more faithfully before God and man. Paul gives us a great reminder of the import of God’s Word, and the priority it ought to be in our lives—it’s our life compass!

“Study

to shew thyself approved

unto God,

a workman

that needeth not to be ashamed,

rightly dividing the word of truth.”  2 Timothy 2:15

And I always like to point out that just as we are called to “rightly” divide/understand God’s truth, the implication is, that as there is a “right” way to divide/understand God’s Word, there is also a “wrong” way! And there seems to be a lot of folks “wrongly” dividing—twisting what The Word says. Yet when we will diligently pursue the understanding of His Word, God will help us to not only understand it, but also to apply it consistently and to “order our steps” His way!

“All scripture

is given by inspiration of God,

and is profitable

for doctrine,

for reproof,

for correction,

for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God

may be perfect,

throughly furnished

unto all good works.”    2 Timothy 3:16-17

As we pursue living the crucified life, we will come to see what God has for us in His Word. And as we bring this post to a close, let’s consider some things that the Psalmist says to us about pursuing God’s ways, and having His presence and glory evident in our lives.

“The steps of a good man

are ordered by the LORD:

and he delighteth in his way.

24 Though he fall,

he shall not be utterly cast down:

for the LORD upholdeth him

with his hand.” Psalm 37:23-24

“Trust in the LORD, and do good;

so shalt thou dwell in the land,

and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the LORD;

and he shall give thee the desires

of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the LORD;

trust also in him;

and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness

as the light,

and thy judgment as the noonday.”   Psalm 37:3-6

He is the shepherd—the supply—and the sufficiency—today, tomorrow and each day we are given, so may HE ever:

“Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.” Psalm 119:133

Amen and Amen!!!

Did You Say Wait??? Bible Ballistics: BBs #430

Bible Ballistics: BBs #430    Did You Say Wait???

Today is a reminder for me!!! We are going through some ‘season-of-life’ changes, and that can often cause us to take our focus off of Jesus and let it slip onto our circumstances—and when the big “W” word is involved, it can become a real challenge. So I want to share with you the reminder that I need today—God is in charge and when He asks me to “wait”, HE is working where I can’t see, and I can trust HIM!

What we have to decide is whether we are just going to talk about “trusting” God with everything, or if we are truly going to “let go….and let God” do whatever pleases Him, and wait for His purposes to come to pass! With this in mind, I’m sharing one of my favorite ‘reminder’ passages with you today, and I hope it will encourage us both to stay focused on our Lord and His will—rather than the frustrations that life can bring, especially when it involves ‘waiting’!

“Trust in the LORD,

and do good;

so shalt thou dwell in the land,

and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the LORD;

and he shall give thee the desires

of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the LORD;

trust also in him;

and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness

as the light,

and thy judgment

as the noonday.

7 Rest in the LORD,

and wait patiently

for him:

fret not thyself

because of him who prospereth

in his way,

because of the man who

bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8 Cease from anger,

and forsake wrath:

fret not thyself

in any wise

to do evil.”   Psalm 37:3-8

Simple, but “NOT” so easy—but do-able as we follow God’s instruction from the Psalmist:

Trust God—and do right–

Delight in God—and He will provide—

Commit it all to God —and He will accomplish it—

Trust it all to God—for He knows the right timing–

Rest In The Lord—remember, He’s got it—

Wait patiently for HIM—for God never fails—

Don’t fret over wicked people—God sees the truth—

When we will give all these things to our Lord, He will enable us to have victory in:

Ceasing from anger—

Forsaking wrath (another word for anger)—

Not thinking/fretting about doing evil—

May we each search our own heart, seek God’s face and pursue HIS righteousness through the power of Jesus, the leading of His Holy Spirit, and the truth of His Word.

I’m praying for you and covet your prayers for us—then we’ll all benefit and draw nearer to The One who hears and answers prayer. Amen and Amen.

“This” Time Is Now!!! Bible Ballistics: BBs #428

Bible Ballistics: BBs #428    “This” Time Is Now!!!

As we make our way through this cold winter weather that is gripping much of the U.S., I couldn’t help but think about the times that we live in—things are cold and then they get hot! When they’re cold everyone is crying for it to get warm, when it is hot, people clamor for it to cool off! It’s the nature of the dissatisfied human heart. But for those of us who are believers in Jesus Christ the King of Glory—we ought to look at things with different eyes; we ought to recognize that God is ever at work in our lives, regardless of the temperature, the time or the political climate. God has called us to serve Him faithfully wherever HE has placed us; or as someone as so aptly put it, “Bloom where you’re planted”; and while that isn’t scripture it does have it’s roots in scripture. Let’s take a ‘gander’ at The Word.

Esther was a godly young woman who found herself in a pagan culture, in the palace of a King—yet God hadn’t placed her there by mistake.

“Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther,

Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape

in the king’s house,

more than all the Jews.

14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace

at this time,

then shall there enlargement

and deliverance arise to the Jews

from another place;

but thou and thy father’s house

shall be destroyed:

and who knoweth

whether thou art come

to the kingdom

for such a time as this?

15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,

16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan,

and fast ye for me,

and neither eat nor drink

three days,

night or day:

I also and my maidens

will fast likewise;

and so will I go in unto the king,

which is not according to the law:

and if I perish,

I perish.

17 So Mordecai went his way,

and did according to all

that Esther had commanded him.”   Esther 4:13-17

Esther wasn’t looking to be a hero, but when confronted with the opportunity to serve God ‘where she was planted’, even at the risk of her life, she chose to be available to God, for His service, even if it cost her life—so she fasted, prayed and obeyed God!

What is your “such a time as this”? What circumstances are you wanting to change, get out of, rearrange or scream and cry about? Well my friend, those circumstances haven’t caught God by surprise. “God never says ‘oops’!” and He hasn’t misplaced you or me! We are living here, now because God created us “for such a time as this”—no matter what our “this” is!

Only “YOU” can do what God has created ‘you’ to do, and we ought not wait for someone else to do what God wants us to do. Just as Mordecai told Esther, God’s plans won’t be thwarted because of our cowardice, laziness, apathy, fear or greed—God will use someone else if we refuse to heed His call. And we will never know the blessings that God had for us if we fail to step up to the bat right where we are!

We’re not called to fret over tomorrow, or yesterday but to live “this” day to its fullest for Jesus, to follow Him anywhere/everywhere He leads—to minister His Word, His grace and His love in whatever way He has called us to minister! And YES, we are all ministers of that which we have received from Jesus! Praying always, as He taught us!

“After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father

which art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.(in me)

10 Thy kingdom come (in me)

Thy will be done

in earth, (in me)

as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread……”.   Matthew 6:9-11a

We are to seek His kingdom, His will, and His provision for each day! Just a little further on in this ‘Sermon On The Mount’, Jesus spoke these words to all of us who are HIS!

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God,

and his righteousness;

and all these things

shall be added unto you.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow:

for the morrow

shall take thought

for the things of itself.

Sufficient unto the day

is the evil thereof.” Matthew 6:33-34

So what’s your “this”? You’re there for “such a time as this”; what will you do with your “this” today? Pray and obey, as Esther did, or desert? The choice is yours, but choose wisely, there’s a test at the end! Amen and Amen!

Forgive Us This Day??? Bible Ballistics: BBs #422

Bible Ballistics: BBs #422  Forgive Us This Day???

As we approach a new year, I want to do a little “house-cleaning” for the soul and I invite you to join me. One of the things that tend to hide from our view is unforgiveness, and it is a killer—it kills our joy, our peace, and our ability to obediently go forward with Jesus.

In the ‘Model Prayer’ Jesus reveals the import of forgiveness to every believer.

“After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done

in earth,

as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day

our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power,

and the glory,

for ever.

Amen.”   Matthew 6:9-13

Jesus calls us to forgive, not just because He ‘says so’, but because we are ever seeking God’s forgiveness! How can we claim to be children of God, who are forgiven, yet withhold forgiveness from those who have offended us? What sin could I justly fail to forgive others of that would be equal to or greater than the sin that God has forgiven me of? There is none! But so often we look at our own sin through those “rose-colored glasses”, rather than seeing sin as God sees it. We can incur God’s judgment and discipline in our lives when we hold others to a different standard than ourselves. So just a simple reminder for us all today, God has called us to judge rightly or not at all.

“Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” Matthew 7:1-2

Without getting into the great debate, Jesus doesn’t call us to ‘never’ judge, but to judge with right judgment. And the place where that must begin is with “me”.

“For if we would judge ourselves,

we should not be judged.

32 But when we are judged,

we are chastened of the Lord,

that we should not be condemned

with the world.”    1 Corinthians 11:31-32

Another thing that we learn from the Apostle Paul is that we should always recognize that our sin debt was immeasurable; we can never save ourselves—for we truly are ‘sinners’ saved by God’s grace and the blood of Jesus.

“And the grace of our Lord

was exceeding abundant

with faith

and love

which is in Christ Jesus.

15 This is a faithful saying,

and worthy of all acceptation,

that Christ Jesus came into the world

to save sinners;

of whom I am chief.”     1 Timothy 1:14-15

Jesus came “to save sinners; of whom I am chief”, and praise God He did!!! I am surely glad that He has forgiven me! How about you? Are you holding others to a higher standard than you think God holds you too? Or are you judging rightly, and extending to others the grace and forgiveness, which you have received? One of my favorite verses, which I still have to remind myself of, says it all:

“Let no corrupt communication

proceed out of your mouth,

but that which is good

to the use of edifying,

that it may minister grace

unto the hearers.

30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God,

whereby ye are sealed

unto the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness,

and wrath, and anger,

and clamour, and evil speaking,

be put away from you,

with all malice:

32 And be ye kind

tenderhearted,

forgiving one another,

even as God

for Christ’s sake

hath forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:29-32

I’m to guard my heart, guard my mouth, bringing no grief to The Holy Spirit, as I refuse the wrong and cling to the right, “kindly” forgiving others because I AM forgiven!

Amen and Amen!!!

A Little Dab Or A Drenching??? Bible Ballistics: BBs #417

Bible Ballistics: BBs #417 A Little Dab Or A Drenching???

I heard a pastor recently make the comparison of wanting just a little bit of “Jesus” or do we want to be “drenched” in Him, His Word and His Spirit, and it just struck a chord with me. In fact, I remembered two old advertisements; “A little dab’ll do ya!” and “Fill’er Up”! And I think these two can describe the choice that we face in life; do we want to be “filled” or are we just seeking a “dab” of goodness or religion? Jesus calls us to “take up your cross” and that isn’t just a “little dab”!

“Then said Jesus unto his disciples,

If any man will come after me,

let him deny himself,

and take up his cross,

and follow me.

25 For whosoever will save his life

shall lose it:

and whosoever will lose his life

for my sake

shall find it.

26 For what is a man profited,

if he shall gain the whole world,

and lose his own soul?

or what shall a man give

in exchange for his soul?”   Matthew 16:24-26

When Jesus calls us to “take up his cross”, He is talking about the same thing that the Apostle Paul was calling the Galatian Christians to consider.

“I am crucified with Christ:

nevertheless I live;

yet not I,

but Christ liveth in me:

and the life which I now live

in the flesh

I live by the faith

of the Son of God,

who loved me,

and gave himself for me.”    Galatians 2:20

We are to die to ourselves and live by faith unto Jesus in “all” we are and all we do! And this isn’t talking about simply self-denial—but learning to victoriously live “by the faith of the Son of God” through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, and yielding to His work and direction in all of our ways. It is the only thing that will give us victory and spiritual maturity. It’s Jesus’ call to us every moment of every day—not part-time; not just a ‘little dab’.

“This I say then,

Walk in the Spirit,

and ye shall not fulfil

the lust of the flesh.

17 For the flesh lusteth

against the Spirit,

and the Spirit

against the flesh:

and these are contrary

the one to the other:

so that ye cannot do the things

that ye would…

… 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is

love,

joy,

peace,

longsuffering,

gentleness,

goodness,

faith,

23 Meekness,

temperance:

against such there is no law.

24 And they that are Christ’s

have crucified the flesh

with the affections

and lusts.

25 If we live in the Spirit,

let us also walk in the Spirit.”    Portions of Galatians 5:16-25

We must choose to hear and obey the voice of God speaking to our hearts, and order our steps accordingly; or we will find ourselves listening to our flesh and settling for that “little dab”. May we truly seek to be ‘drenched’ in HIS Spirit, and filled with HIS Word, understanding Isaiah’s call to listen!

“And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying,

This is the way,

walk ye in it,

when ye turn to the right hand,

and when ye turn to the left.”    Isaiah 30:21

Jesus reminds us that His own will hear His voice—what are you choosing to listen to today?

“I am the good shepherd,

and know my sheep,

and am known of mine……

…16 And other sheep I have,

which are not of this fold:

them also I must bring,

and they shall hear my voice;

and there shall be one fold,

and one shepherd….

26 But ye believe not,

because ye are not of my sheep,

as I said unto you.

27 My sheep hear my voice,

and I know them,

and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them

eternal life;

and they shall never perish,

neither shall any man

pluck them

out of my hand.” John 10:14, 16 & 26-28

May we examine our hearts today and see if we are HIS sheep, if we are hearing HIS voice, if we are known of HIM, if we are following Jesus or someone or something else? Just as Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3, no one can see the kingdom except they are “born again”, and when we are “born again” we are “born” of God’s/Jesus’ Holy Spirit and are known of HIM, and the same Holy Spirit then comes to dwell within those who receive Jesus. And by the Holy Spirit we can live holy, victorious lives in a world of darkness and corruption; and the Spirit is the evidence of whose we are.

“But ye are not in the flesh,

but in the Spirit,

if so be that the Spirit of God

dwell in you.

Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ,

he is none of his.

10 And if Christ be in you,

the body is dead

because of sin;

but the Spirit is life

because of righteousness.”   Romans 8:9-10

Will you settle for a “little dab” or seek the “filling” of The Spirit? Choose wisely—there is a test at the end!
