Bible Ballistics: BBs #183       A Place of Safety!!!

We live in a crazy world of chaos and terror, but no matter what is going on around us, we have a place of safety. We have a God who holds us in His hand and we can stand in the security of HIS total sovereignty no matter the circumstances or environment around us.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;” Psalm 91:1-9

What confidence we have at hand, and yet so often we let the enemy steal our joy—our confidence—our security. Not the flippant arrogance of the world, but a joy and absolute secure confidence in the ability of our God, as Paul said to Timothy:

For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” 2 Timothy 1:12

I am so glad for the great old hymn written by Daniel Whittel in the 1880’s, that reminds us of this assurance:

I know not why God’s wondrous grace

To me He hath made known,

Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love

Redeemed me for His own.

But I know Whom I have believèd,

And am persuaded that He is able

To keep that which I’ve committed

Unto Him against that day.

I know not how this saving faith

To me He did impart,

Nor how believing in His Word

Wrought peace within my heart.  Refrain–But…

I know not how the Spirit moves,

Convincing us of sin,

Revealing Jesus through the Word,

Creating faith in Him.  Refrain–But…

I know not what of good or ill

May be reserved for me,

Of weary ways or golden days,

Before His face I see.  Refrain–But…

I know not when my Lord may come,

At night or noonday fair,

Nor if I’ll walk the vale with Him,

Or meet Him in the air.”  Refrain–But…

Each time I sing this precious hymn, I am reminded of the truth that our God Reigns!!! His arms hold to my being. His wings cover me. His Spirit is working within us that we might be “conformed to the image of His Son…” (Ro. 8:29)

So??? Here’s our shot for today! Praise God “from whom all blessings flow”, give Him the glory and rest in His strength and power, His love and compassion that He pours out on us, and within our hearts. The Psalmist said it best:

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord,

and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:

To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning,

and thy faithfulness every night,

Upon an instrument of ten strings,

and upon the psaltery;

upon the harp with a solemn sound.

For thou, Lord, hast made me glad

through thy work:

I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

O Lord, how great are thy works!

and thy thoughts are very deep.” Psalm 92:1-5

Look up!

Walk straight!

Press on in confidence!

Praise the Lord God Almighty!

Praise the Son Jesus Christ!

Praise the Holy Spirit!

PraiseGod from whom all blessings flow”!
