Bible Ballistics: BBs #263 The Sun Is Shinning!!!
I don’t know about you, but it’s been a long, hard week at our house. Issues came out of the blue and slammed us to the floor!!! Overwhelmed with grief, shock and sorrow for the things that are going on in not only “the” world, but in our world. Those unexpected difficulties that come and make us feel like we’ve been kicked in the teeth! Not to say that we haven’t had some good things going on as well, but it’s been one of those times when the cloud of grief and sorrow have camped out right over my head and my heart.
So, what do we do in those horrific times of trial and shock to the mind, heart and make our body feel like we’re carrying the weight of the world. And truly we sometimes do carry the weight of “our” world, and the difficulties that come to us and those whom we love dearly. But unlike those who don’t know Jesus, we have a hope that is secure. These are the times when we can join Paul and proclaim confidently:
“….for I know whom I have believed,
and am persuaded
that he is able
to keep that
which I have committed
against that day.” 2 Timothy 1:12b
This is one of my favorite verses (As well as the song of the same name) because it reminds us that we can KNOW, that we KNOW, that we KNOW, that we KNOW!!! You see the confidence that we have is in the Redeemer, and Savior of our souls, and not in our own frail efforts. Our job is simply to trust HIM with it all, and obey His direction. Another of my favorite verses sums this up as well.
“Trust in the Lord
with all thine heart;
and lean not
unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways
and he shall direct
thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
He is ready, willing and able to do all that needs to be done!
“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” Ephesians 3:20 (His Spirit IN us!)
I’d like to leave you today with a rather lengthy passage, but one that reminds us of what God is doing not only for us, but also through us–our circumstances, our trials and our victories! God is working in “all” things in our lives, conforming us to the image of His Son (See Romans 8:28-29), and He is also using our lives—with all our failures, trials and successes—to increase the kingdom of God and bring others to Jesus. What a privilege and an honor—although sometimes when we’re in the middle of the hurricane, it’s hard to see the “SON” or the “Sun”, but we must keep looking to the one who holds us in HIS hand. I trust Him, and I invite you to trust Him too!!! He NEVER fails, even when we’re unsure of what HE IS doing. Just trust HIM—today!
“Blessed be God,
even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of mercies,
and the God of all comfort;
4 Who comforteth us
in all our tribulation,
that we may be able to comfort them
which are in any trouble,
by the comfort
wherewith we ourselves are comforted
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us,
so our consolation
also aboundeth by Christ.
6 And whether we be afflicted,
it is for your consolation
which is effectual
in the enduring of the same sufferings
which we also suffer:
or whether we be comforted,
it is for your consolation
7 And our hope of you is stedfast,
that as ye are partakers of the sufferings,
so shall ye be also of the consolation.
8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant
of our trouble
which came to us in Asia,
that we were pressed out of measure,
insomuch that we despaired even of life:
9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves,
that we should not trust in ourselves,
but in God which raiseth the dead:
10 Who delivered us
from so great a death,
and doth deliver:
in whom we trust
that he will yet deliver us;
11 Ye also helping together by prayer for us,
that for the gift bestowed upon us
by the means of many persons
thanks may be given by many
on our behalf.
12 For our rejoicing is this,
the testimony of our conscience,
that in simplicity
and godly sincerity,
not with fleshly wisdom,
but by the grace of God,
we have had our conversation
in the world,
and more abundantly to you-ward.” 2 Corinthians 1: 3-12
So wherever you are, God is there. Look up, walk forward and press on with Jesus. HE NEVER FAILS! That is my hope and confidence! Always!!!
“Let your conversation be without covetousness;
and be content with such things as ye have:
for he hath said,
I will never leave thee,
nor forsake thee.
6 So that we may boldly say,
The Lord is my helper,
and I will not fear
what man shall do unto me.” Hebrews 13:5-6
