Bible Ballistics: BBs #698  Can You See It NOW???

I would like to share a challenge today—a challenge for us all to examine ourselves to see what we really “see”!

“They have not known

 nor understood:

for he hath shut their eyes,

that they cannot see;

and their hearts,

that they cannot understand.”  Isaiah 44:18

Jesus also commented on Isaiah’s message:

“But though he had done so many miracles before them,

yet they believed not on him:

38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet

might be fulfilled,

which he spake,

Lord, who hath believed

our report?

and to whom hath the arm of the Lord

been revealed?

39 Therefore they could not believe,

because that Esaias said again,

40 He hath blinded their eyes,

and hardened their heart;

that they should not see with their eyes,

nor understand with their heart,      

and be converted,

and I should heal them.”   John 12:37-40

Have you seen HIM?  Paul also made a reference to the same condition of men.

“(According as it is written,

God hath given them the spirit of slumber,

eyes that they should not see,

and ears that they should not hear;

unto this day.”  Romans 11:8

There’s also another message which was a part of Isaiah’s great vision of God, reminding us that without God’s work to open hearts and minds to His truth, there is no hope.

“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying,

Whom shall I send,

and who will go for us?

Then said I,

Here am I;

send me. 9

And he said,

Go,

and tell this people,

Hear ye indeed,

but understand not;

and see ye indeed,

but perceive not.

10 Make the heart of this people fat,

and make their ears heavy,

and shut their eyes;

lest they see

with their eyes,

and hear

with their ears,

and understand

with their heart,

and convert,

and be healed.”   Isaiah 6:8-10

There are many who will not hear or see anything other than their own way; but we are called to examine ourselves, to judge ourselves (that kind of sinks the notion that we are never to judge!), and to be sure that we have “real faith”—faith that is fixed on Jesus and we are following Him, His Word, and His way!

“Examine yourselves,

whether ye be in the faith;

prove your own selves.

Know ye not your own selves,

how that Jesus Christ is in you,

except ye be reprobates?”   2 Corinthians 13:5

And interestingly enough, we all need reminding, just as the Corinthian believers did, to remember that “saying so, doesn’t make it so”!  Even as Paul had already told them in his first letter what faith is—trusting in Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection for our SIN—and real faith, as James said, is evident by our actions!

“Moreover, brethren,

I declare unto you the gospel

which I preached unto you,

which also ye have received,

and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved,

if ye keep in memory what I preached

unto you,

unless ye have believed

in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all

that which I also received,

how that Christ died for our sins

according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried,

and that he rose again the third day

according to the scriptures:

5 And that he was seen of Cephas,

then of the twelve:”  1 Corinthians 15:1-5

We must be willing to allow God to open our eyes that we might see what HE sees; that we might truly be the “wise man” described by Jesus in Matthew 7; a passage that reminds us again that “saying so, doesn’t make it so”!

“Not every one that saith unto me,

Lord, Lord,

shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;

but he that doeth the will of my Father

which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day,

Lord, Lord,

have we not

prophesied in thy name?

and in thy name

have cast out devils?

and in thy name

done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them,

I never knew you:

depart from me,

ye that work iniquity.

24 Therefore whosoever

heareth these sayings of mine,

and doeth them,

I will liken him unto a wise man,

which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell not:

for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that

heareth these sayings of mine,

and doeth them not,

shall be likened unto a foolish man,

which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended,

and the floods came,

and the winds blew,

and beat upon that house;

and it fell:

and great was the fall of it.”  Matthew 7:21-27

Rock or sand, the choice is yours?  But choose wisely—there is a test!  So, a couple of verses in closing that remind us that salvation is all about God’s work, not our own, other than to believe and receive the work that Jesus Christ has already done.

“Jesus therefore answered and said unto them,

Murmur not among yourselves.

44 No man can come to me,

except the Father

which hath sent me

draw him:

and I will raise him up

at the last day.”  John 6:43-44

Have you seen HIM?  As HE IS?  For WHO HE IS?  You can today!

“Jesus saith unto him,

I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:6

Jesus sees YOU!  HE loves YOU!  I pray that you will hear HIS voice and see HIS love for you and open the door.  And if you are HIS already, I pray that you will truly learn to grow in faith, grace and truth by HIS precious Holy Spirit—use those eyes and ears for Jesus!

“Behold,

I stand at the door,

and knock:

if any man

hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.

21 To him that overcometh

will I grant to sit with me in my throne,

even as I also overcame,

and am set down with my Father

in his throne.

22 He that hath an ear,

let him hear what the Spirit saith

unto the churches.”  Revelation 3:20-22

Amen and Amen!

Bible Ballistics: BBs #320 The Best Christmas Lights Of All?

An edited Repost from 2016—I pray that it will be an encouragement to us all.

 

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying,

I am the light

of the world:

he that followeth me

shall not walk in darkness,

but shall have the light

of life.”  John 8:12

Jesus IS the “light of the world”!  He not only created light but He Himself IS light.  Jesus came into this world to BE the ONLY way to God.  And the very best ‘Christmas lights’ that we can display is a life lived by the power of the cross of Jesus Christ, to be a reflection of God’s light, truth and glory in a world of darkness.  We need to shine that light regardless of the darkness and blindness of those who will not see.  After all Jesus Himself was rejected by those who wanted to stay in the darkness.

“In him was life;

and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light

shineth in darkness;

and the darkness

comprehended it not.”  John 1:4-5

Jesus is the creator and sustainer of life who He came into this world to deliver those who will believe in Him, from the penalty, power and eventually even the presence of sin.  It’s what HE came to do, and when our light shines for Him we can share that Good News with those in need of Jesus and His saving grace!

“Let your light so shine

before men,

that they may see your good works,

and glorify your Father

which is in heaven.”  Matthew 5:16

Our light is to shine for Jesus (Our light IS Jesus!), even when people around us reject the light, or even ridicule and persecute us for our faith in Him.  We can expect the same treatment that our Lord received.

“For God so loved the world,

that he gave his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him

should not perish,

but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son

into the world

to condemn the world;

but that the world through him

might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him

is not condemned:

but he that believeth not

is condemned already,

because he hath not believed

in the name

of the only begotten

Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation,

that light is come into the world,

and men loved darkness

rather than light,

because their deeds

were evil.”  John 3:16-19

There will always be those who reject the light, but when we belong to Jesus, His light has been planted within our hearts and it should be the pursuit of our lives to let HIS light shine through us.  We can hide our light or let it shine for HIM!  Just as the moon has no light of its own, neither do we; apart from Jesus (See John 15:5), and much like the wonder of an eclipse, we can be a clear reflection of the light of Jesus shining His light onto those around us, or we can let the world “eclipse” our light and have little to no effect on the people around us.  May we all strive (especially during this time when people are more open to the news of the “Babe in the manger”) to be the “Best Christmas Lights Of All”?

God’s purpose before the creation of the world was the redemption of man—He knew we would sin before He created us and He loves us so much that He created us anyway!  He chose Abraham to be the father of Israel and provided that through his seed the Messiah would come.  And God also promised that He would be the Savior of all who would believe, whether Jew or Gentile.  Just as John wrote, “God so loved the world, that he gave”.  God sent Jesus that we might have life in Him, through the salvation that He would purchase at Calvary.

A baby born to die for our sin—that’s how much God loves YOU!  And if you know Him, shouldn’t your light be shining brighter than any string of decorations?

“Thus saith God the Lord,

he that created the heavens,

and stretched them out;

he that spread forth the earth,

and that which cometh out of it;

he that giveth breath

unto the people upon it,

and spirit

to them that walk therein:

6 I the Lord have called thee

in righteousness,

and will hold

thine hand,

and will keep thee,

and give thee

for a covenant of the people,

for a light of the Gentiles;

7 To open

the blind eyes,

to bring out

the prisoners from the prison,

and them that sit in darkness

out of the prison house.”  Isaiah 42:5-7

God opens the blind eyes to see their own sin (If they will but hear the voice of His Spirit!) and He will deliver them through the sacrifice of Jesus, when they will believe in Him.  He loves you and me today and wants us to come to Him.  We can choose light or darkness.  What are you choosing today?  If you don’t know Jesus, He is calling to you today—if you will but respond in repentance of sin that you can’t fix, and believe in the death, burial and resurrection of the ONE who came to fix/pay for your sin and mine.  It’s why He came.  And coming to Him will enable His light to shine from within you and me, for He places His peace, light, joy and love in our hearts.

“And hope maketh not ashamed;

because the love of God is shed abroad

in our hearts

by the Holy Ghost

which is given unto us.”   Romans 5:5

“For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink;

but righteousness,

and peace,

and joy

in the Holy Ghost.”   Romans 14:17

So SHINE!  SHINE the “the light of the world” TODAY!

Bible Ballistics: Vol. 16 No. 13 What Am I Waiting On???

 

“But they that wait upon the LORD

shall renew their strength;

they shall mount up

with wings as eagles;

they shall run,

and not be weary;

and they shall walk,

and not faint.”  Isaiah 40:31

While I don’t’ always succeed at “waiting upon the Lord”, it is the goal of my life; sometimes it’s relatively simple, other times it takes everything that is in me to “wait”!  Then there are those times that I blow it—totally blow it, but praise God, when I fail, HE never does; and I am so grateful for a faithful God who never, never fails—even when I do.

“Nevertheless

my lovingkindness

will I not utterly take from him,

nor suffer

my faithfulness to fail.”  Psalm 89:33

Even when you and I don’t understand what is going on, we can know that our God is ever at work for His glory and our good.  He doesn’t sleep, nor does He lie or fail.

“In hope of eternal life,

which God,

that cannot lie,

promised

before the world began;”  Titus 1:2

“Jesus Christ

the same

yesterday,

and to day,

and for ever.”  Hebrews 13:8

And one of the other things that is so sure about our Lord Jesus Christ, who never lies, is that HE has promised to never leave us alone, and as we walk in obedience to His Word, we will see more and more of His hand at work in our lives.  The author of Hebrews has some great words of encouragement for us in this regard.

“Let brotherly love continue.

2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers:

for thereby some have entertained

angels unawares.

3 Remember them that are in bonds,

as bound with them;

and them which suffer adversity,

as being yourselves also in the body.

4 Marriage is honourable in all,

and the bed undefiled:

but whoremongers

and adulterers

God will judge.

5 Let your conversation be without covetousness;

and be content

with such things as ye have:

for he hath said,

I will never leave thee,

nor forsake thee.

6 So that we may boldly say,

The Lord is my helper,

and I will not fear

what man shall do unto me.”  Hebrews 13:1-6

The book of Hebrews also reminds us that because our God is faithful, we can have confidence in Him, whether we are in the “waiting” mode or not.  We have all found ourselves in the “waiting” mode lately, in fact most of the year of 2020, but God wasn’t caught off guard, and He’ll never be caught off guard in your life or mine; and if we will determine to trust our God while we wait—or while we’re not waiting—we will find that He is accomplishing His purpose in us.

This post is relatively short, but I hope it will help you to refocus on God, and His purposes for you and me (especially during this time of celebrating HIS greatest gift to us—JESUS). I want to leave you with one of my favorite passages, and one of my very favorite Psalms which I hope will encourage you/me to keep our eyes on Jesus and remember that even when we are “waiting’, we can ‘wait’ with confidence and assurance that we can shout, “Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth”!

“Trust in the LORD

with all thine heart;

and lean not unto

thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways

acknowledge him,

and he shall direct

thy paths.”  Proverbs 3:5-6

I invite you to ponder on this Psalm with me, and let God encourage our hearts no matter what you’re/I’m waiting on; and know that we have been doing a lot of waiting here at our house due to some personal issues, so I totally understand.  And know that this speaks to me as much (or more) than it does to you.  May Jesus Christ be praised.

“I will lift up mine eyes

unto the hills,

from whence cometh my help.

2 My help cometh from the LORD,

which made heaven and earth.

3 He will not suffer thy foot

to be moved:

he that keepeth thee

will not slumber.

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel

shall neither slumber

nor sleep.

5 The LORD is thy keeper:

the LORD is thy shade

upon thy right hand.

6 The sun shall not smite thee

by day,

nor the moon

by night.

7 The LORD shall preserve thee

from all evil:

he shall preserve

thy soul.

8 The LORD shall preserve

thy going out

and thy coming in

from this time forth,

and even for evermore.”  Psalm 121:1-8

Bible Ballistics: BBs #696  The Life Is In The Blood???

 

We hear a lot of talk these days about blood—blood types, blood anti-bodies for fighting Covid, blood clots—and yet so many today don’t want to hear about the blood of Jesus that “cleanseth us from all sin”!

“But if we walk in the light,

as he is in the light,

we have fellowship

one with another,

and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son

cleanseth us from all sin.”   1 John 1:7

There are two things that our world doesn’t want to talk about—the blood of Jesus and sin!  Why?  Because Sin is the issue—it’s why Jesus came, and it’s what HE can and will save us from.  From the penalty of sin—death; from the power of sin, in the lives of believers; and ultimately from the very presence of sin, when we live with HIM in eternity—not pie-in-the-sky, but truth and reality IN JESUS!  Let’s consider what God says in His Word, for regardless of what people may say—Jesus is the only way—and His way (like it or not) is through the cross and HIS shed blood for sin.

“And almost all things

are by the law

purged with blood;

and without shedding of blood

is no remission.”  Hebrews 9:22

Jesus makes it clear that HE is the only way—for it cost His life to save us from our sins, and to give us not only eternal life (with Him in heaven) but abundant, peace-filled, holy life right now.

“I am the door:

by me if any man enter in,

he shall be saved,

and shall go in and out,

and find pasture.

10 The thief cometh not,

but for to steal,

and to kill,

and to destroy:

I am come that they might have life,

and that they might have it

more abundantly.

11 I am the good shepherd:

the good shepherd giveth his life

for the sheep.”  John 10:9-11

And as Jesus made it so clear—HE IS THE WAY—the only way!

“Jesus saith unto him,

I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.”  John 14:6

No man—rich or poor—famous or unknown—powerful or common—loved or hated (by men)—comes to God except through The Son, Jesus Christ The Lord!  And when we come to Him in repentance and faith, we find His arms open wide.  Won’t you come to Him today?  Or, if you already know Him, and are known by Him, won’t you draw near to HIM instead of the bright lights of the world?  He has a work for each of us to do—but we can only “do” out of the “being” born again to “become” the sons of God!

“All that the Father giveth me

shall come to me;

and him that cometh to me

I will in no wise cast out.

38 For I came down from heaven,

not to do mine own will,

but the will of him

that sent me.

39 And this is the Father’s will

which hath sent me,

that of all which he hath given me

I should lose nothing,

but should raise it up again

at the last day.

40 And this is the will of him that sent me,

that every one which seeth the Son,

and believeth on him,

may have everlasting life:

and I will raise him up

at the last day.”  John 6:37-40

If you hear His voice calling, won’t you open the door to HIM today?  Won’t you draw near to the “redeemer” of your heart, soul and life?

“Behold,

I stand at the door, and knock:

if any man hear my voice,

and open the door,

I will come in to him,

and will sup with him,

and he with me.” Revelation 3:20

All this bought by the blood of the Son of God—who loved us and “gave Himself” for our redemption!

“But God commendeth his love

toward us,

in that, while we were yet sinners,

Christ died for us.

9 Much more then,

being now justified by his blood,

we shall be saved from wrath

through him.

10 For if, when we were enemies,

we were reconciled to God

by the death of his Son,

much more,

being reconciled,

we shall be saved by his life.

11 And not only so,

but we also joy in God

through our Lord Jesus Christ,

by whom we have now received

the atonement.”  Romans 5:8-11

Are you trusting to “the blood” or your own devices?  It’s your choice, but choose wisely, there is a test!

Bible Ballistics: BBs #691  Worship—A State Not A Place???

 

Just a few thoughts this morning about worship: what is worship; where does it take place; when does it take place; why does it take place; who really worships; how can we become true worshippers?  All these are questions we need to consider, especially in these tumultuous days which seem to confront us in such mind-boggling ways!  If worship is a state of mind and heart rather than a “place”, how do we get there.  Let’s allow scripture to answer these questions.

Worship—reverent homage and honor paid to God or a

Sacred personage, or to any object regarded as sacred-

One of the definitions of the Greek word that Jesus used in Matthew 4:10, says:

Worship–To crouch…to prostrate oneself in homage…to do reverence to…to adore—worship—

Jesus makes it clear for us that real worship of God will yield service in the life of the worshipper.  I find it apropos that this was one of the three temptations that Satan challenged Jesus in; what would our answer have been?  What have we bowed down to?  Where have we failed to truly worship God?

“Then saith Jesus unto him,

Get thee hence, Satan:

for it is written,

Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God,

and him only

shalt thou serve.”  Matthew 4:10

Contrary to popular belief, Jesus makes it clear that we are called to be “exclusionists”—not a popular idea—but we are called here by Jesus to worship “him only” and we are to serve “him only”.  Jesus also makes this clear in another passage that we need to consider in our ‘multi-tasking’ mindset.  We have allowed our cultural influence to rollover into our idea of worship (thinking we just add worship on to our already loaded schedule and give “God a nod” when we have the time!).  Jesus says different!

“No man can serve two masters:

for either he will hate the one,

and love the other;

or else he will hold to the one,

and despise the other.

Ye cannot

serve God

and mammon.”  Matthew 6:24

And as we spoke of recently—we must understand and acknowledge that we are “bought with a price” and we are living in God’s presence—whether we act like it or not—and to know and submit ourselves to our God and King is the beginning of true worship.  Living in God’s presence at every turn, giving ourselves to be His “witnesses” before a lost and dying world.

“What?

know ye not

that your body is the temple

of the Holy Ghost

which is in you,

which ye have of God,

and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price:

therefore glorify God

in your body,

and in your spirit,

which are God’s.”   1 Corinthians 6:19-20

When we are “born again” we receive new life in Jesus, and our life is to be lived unto Him.  Paul put it best to the Romans—we need a mindset toward God in all things.

“For of him,

and through him,

and to him,

are all things:

to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”  Romans 11:36

Whom are we glorifying?  Self?  The powers that be?  Power that we want?  Fame?  Fortune? Prominence?  We are to be the witnesses of Jesus.  It’s what He left us here to BE!  And when we will BE His witness, the right doing will always accompany the ‘being’!

“When they therefore were come together,

they asked of him, saying,

Lord, wilt thou at this time

restore again the kingdom

to Israel?

7 And he said unto them,

It is not for you to know

the times

or the seasons,

which the Father hath put

in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power,

after that the Holy Ghost

is come upon you:

and ye shall be witnesses unto me

both in Jerusalem,

and in all Judaea,

and in Samaria,

and unto the uttermost part

of the earth.”  Acts 1:6-8

Don’t fret over yesterday or tomorrow, or the times and seasons, rather live for Jesus in each and every moment that HE gives us “TODAY”!  Live in His presence deliberately!  Walk in His ways continually!  Speak godliness in all things.  Remember that we “are” a witness in all we do and say—all be it, a good one or a bad one, but we are witnesses!  Are you glorying God by a life of worship?  Or are you ashamed to let others know that you are HIS?  Or even worse, are you oblivious to your condition and you unwittingly bring shame to the name of Jesus?

I’d like to share two other passages that I pray will encourage you on your way as good witnesses to the King who bought our salvation with His own blood.  May God speak anew and afresh to you and me through HIS Word!

“But thanks be to God,

which giveth us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren,

be ye stedfast,

unmoveable,

always abounding in the work of the Lord,

forasmuch as ye know

that your labour is not in vain

in the Lord.”   1 Corinthians 15:57-58

Is your labor “in the Lord”?  If you’ve been born again, it ought to be?  Consider Paul’s call to the believers at Rome:

“I beseech you therefore, brethren,

by the mercies of God,

that ye present your bodies

a living sacrifice,

holy,

acceptable unto God,

which is your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world:

but be ye transformed

by the renewing of your mind,

that ye may prove what is that

good,

and acceptable,

and perfect,

will of God.” Romans 12:1-2

May God speak to our hearts, and may we truly learn to live a life of total worship before our God; not just in songs (of whatever kind) at church or raising “holy hands” in a “worship service” (not that there is anything wrong with those things—But God wants our all—all the time), but by living a life of devotion to the God who saves us, keeps us and desires for our hearts to be in tune with HIM.  Even as Jesus prayed for us all in John 17.

“And now I am no more in the world,

but these are in the world,

and I come to thee. Holy Father,

keep through thine own name

those whom thou hast given me,

that they may be one,

as we are…

….23 I in them,

and thou in me,

that they may be made perfect

in one;

and that the world may know

that thou hast sent me,

and hast loved them,

as thou hast loved me.”  John 17:11 & 23
