Bible Ballistics: Vol. 7 No. 12 God So Loved??? And Us???

As we are surrounded by the “Valentine” hearts, roses and love today, I’d like to take a little time to call us to remember the greatest love that ever was, is and ever shall be. And that is God’s love for us, His love for a lost and dying world. A love so great that He didn’t look to receive, but HE GAVE:

For God so loved the world,

that he gave

his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him

should not perish,

but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son

into the world to condemn the world;

but that the world

through him

might be saved.” John 3:16-17

God “so loved” that “he gave”. Yet so often in our culture the measurement of love is on what we “receive”! God loved us when He created us, even knowing that we would mess it all up, that we would sin, that we would be lost and doomed without Him!!! And HE already had a plan. To me that is just incomprehensible, but it is still totally true.

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:” Ephesians 1:4

“….the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Revelation13:8b

God had already provided for our salvation, because He knew we would need “saving” from the sin that we would choose. He knew that our choices would cost us our lives. Literally!

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

We never come to God on our own, but His love reaches down to us, and if we will but hear His voice, respond in repentance and faith, He is still in the “saving” and “redeeming” business, for all who will believe.

We love him,

because he first loved us.

20 If a man say, I love God,

and hateth his brother,

he is a liar:

for he that loveth not his brother

whom he hath seen,

how can he love God

whom he hath not seen?

21 And this commandment

have we from him,

That he who loveth God

love his brother also. 1 John 4:19-21

But the question often comes, “How do I love others like God does?” Well, that ‘s a good question, but the scripture has the answer. There is only one way to “LOVE” others the way that God does, and that is to know God and receive His Spirit and the ability to love others, revealing what God has done for us and within us!!!

Therefore being justified by faith,

we have peace with God

through our Lord Jesus Christ:

By whom also

we have access by faith

into this grace

wherein we stand,

and rejoice

in hope of the glory of God.

And not only so,

but we glory in tribulations also:

knowing that

tribulation worketh patience;

And patience, experience;

and experience, hope:

And hope maketh not ashamed;

because the love of God

is shed abroad

in our hearts

by the Holy Ghost

which is given

unto us.

For when we were yet without strength,

in due time

Christ died

for the ungodly.

For scarcely for a righteous man will one die:

yet peradventure

for a good man

some would even dare to die.

But God

commendeth his love

toward us,

in that,

while we were yet sinners,

Christ died for us.

Much more then,

being now justified by his blood,

we shall be saved

from wrath through him.”   Romans 5:1-9

God “commendeth his love” toward us because we couldn’t save ourselves, because “all have sinned”—and there isn’t anyone who can overcome sin but Jesus.

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” Romans 3:10

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:15

Because all men have a sin problem, it takes one without a sin problem to take care of the sin problem. We have a problem, we owe a debt that we cannot pay, and Jesus paid that debt which He didn’t owe. And contrary to popular belief Jesus IS THE ONLY WAY! He was crucified for my sin and yours, but it’s up to each of us what we will do with that sacrifice. We can talk about it, ignore it, deny it, or we can place our whole trust and confidence in the one who died for us—the “lover of my soul”—Jesus Christ the Lord of Glory. And He is coming back soon!

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” Hebrews 9:28

And because He lives –He is the risen Lord—He can and does impart new life and His Spirit to all who will receive Him, and there is no other way.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6

He laid down His life and is waiting for you today. He is still waiting on those who are lost, to come to Him because He loves us so much—God gave His Son, and the Son gave His life for us.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

God is waiting for YOU! But he won’t wait forever.

(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” 2 Corinthians 6:2

So the question isn’t really about God’s love, because God “commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. He has, does and will “love” us, but the question is “What will YOU do”? Have you accepted the “love of God”? If you have, are you demonstrating that “love of God” to the world? That love that God has put within us through His Holy Spirit. That love which will call the world to question “how” we can do what others can’t. Do you hear His voice today? Please don’t ignore His love for you!!! And don’t hide your light!

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20
