Bible Ballistics: BBs #336 What Did You Say???
We often hear in sports that a particular coach or team has determined to “get back to the basics”, sometimes because they have gotten off track. The same could be said about those who are following Jesus, we often get side-tracked and need to “get back to the basics”, and today we’ll look at some basics, that I pray will encourage you today.
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:1
God is the foundation of all that we believe, and while there is a lot of debate over the account of creation, I am one of those who hold to the truth that God said what He meant. And what God meant is that HE started it all. And He started it with a word—HIS Word.
“In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him;
and without him was not any thing made
that was made.
4 In him was life;
and the life was the light of men.” John 1:1-4
In Genesis 1 we see God The Father, and The Holy Spirit identified as being at creation, and John 1 reveals to us that Jesus was also there as the agent of that creation. Jesus is “THE WORD”! Why is that significant? Well, let’s take a look at Genesis 1 again:
“3 And God said, Let there be light:
and there was light…
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament….
7 And God made the firmament ….
and it was so…..
9 And God said, Let the waters …. be gathered and let the dry land appear:
and it was so…….
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image…
27 So God created man
in his own image,
in the image of God created he him;
male and female created he them.”
Portions of Genesis 1:3-27
God spoke and “it was so”, and God is still speaking and it is so, and will be so! We can take God at His Word because God always does what HE says.
“For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be
that goeth forth out of my mouth:
it shall not return unto me void,
but it shall accomplish that
which I please,
and it shall prosper
in the thing whereto I sent it.
12 For ye shall go out with joy,
and be led forth with peace:
the mountains and the hills shall break forth
before you into singing,
and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” Isaiah 55: 10-12
God is accomplishing HIS purpose by His Word, both His spoken Word, His written Word, and His only begotten Son-The WORD! God isn’t finished yet, He’s not dead, and He’s not deaf to the cry of His children, but He’s on HIS schedule, not ours!
“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:14-15
Just as “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6); there is only One Way to God and that is through Jesus The Son. Without Him there is only sin, death and hell—that which He came and overcame, for all who will come to Him in faith and repentance. But for those who reject and refuse Him, there is no hope. I know that sounds severe, but friends, it is truth, the whole truth, God’s truth! And without knowing “the truth”, Jesus, the future is severe. And it’s not just knowing ‘about’ Jesus, but knowing Him through the power of His Spirit who imparts to us the new birth. And those who know HIM receive “abundant life” (See John 10:10) rather than death.
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth:
for the first heaven and the first earth
were passed away;
and there was no more sea.
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem,
coming down from God
out of heaven,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying,
Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men,
and he will dwell with them,
and they shall be his people,
and God himself shall be with them,
and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears
from their eyes;
and there shall be no more death,
neither shall there be any more pain:
for the former things are passed away.
5 And he that sat upon the throne said,
I make all things new.
And he said unto me,
for these words are true and faithful.” Revelation 21:1-5
Redemption will be realized in HIS time!!!
“Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Prasie Him all creatures here below.
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts.
Praise FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST!”
The Doxology By Thomas Ken (1674)
We’re not the first ones to praise Him, nor will we be the last; but may we be known as those who lift and sing His praises most faithfully and passionately than any before us. Have a great day praising God our Creator, Jesus The Word of God, who came to save us from the penalty of sin, death and hell, and The Holy Spirit who is given to all who come to Jesus in repentance and faith in His death, burial, and resurrection for sin! If you hear His voice, don’t ignore it today, none of us are guaranteed a ‘tomorrow’!
“….To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts…..” A portion of Hebrews 3:15
